This is a weekend market, not a nightly one. It opens on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings and stays quiet the rest of the week, which trips up a lot of first-time visitors who arrive on a Tuesday to a shut street. Friday and Saturday draw the biggest crowds and the fullest line-up of food and performance stalls. Sunday is a touch calmer if you prefer room to move. The market doubles as a free open-air stage. A central seating area draws performers through the evening, so you can eat a plate of moo ping while a band plays or a traditional Thai dance troupe takes the floor. On busier weekends you will often catch a fire show after dark, and there is usually live acoustic and Thai pop music running late. It is family-friendly and unhurried, and the crowd is a real mix of Krabi locals and travellers rather than a tourist-only scene.

Krabi has three markets worth knowing, and which one suits you depends mostly on where you are staying and which night you are free.

Short version. If you are in town on a weekend, the Walking Street market is the one to prioritise. If you are based in Ao Nang or your dates skip the weekend, the Ao Nang Landmark market is the reliable nightly fallback. The Chao Fa riverside stalls are the pick for a quieter local seafood dinner.

Best time to go and how long to spend

Aim to arrive around 6 pm, before the dinner rush, so you can do a full lap while the light is still soft and the seafood is fresh, then settle in near the stage as the crowd builds toward 7.30 pm. An hour and a half to two hours is enough to eat well, watch a performance and shop without rushing. The market runs year round, and because most of it is under cover or awnings, a passing shower during the May-to-October green season rarely shuts it down.
