About Rock Climbing Krabi
The gorgeous karst formations of ancient limestone jut out along the entire west coast of Thailand and stretches north and south into China and Papua New Guinea as well. These magnificent wonders of nature offer the best opportunities for rock climbing in Krabi, Thailand. The mass of limestone highlands along the beach of the Andaman Sea here in Krabi is actually part of the world’s largest coral reef, which simultaneously offer the most exciting chances at adventure both under the sea and above it.
There are more than 700 bolted routes all along the monumental limestone formations. The beaches of Railay and Tonsai are particularly famous for Krabi rock climbing. The climbing here is done following very safe and secure procedures. Metal bolts are placed close together permanently in the rock for support and the climbing is done with a harness. There are climbs for all levels of expertise.
The usual courses for a beginner’s course runs for 3 days. The routes range from beginner’s 5A to the classic multi-pitch 6A, till the top level of 8C. So whether one is a seasoned climber or a beginner one, there are ample opportunities in these rock climbing Krabi spots for everyone. There are no special skills required to get started, except the will to go on an adventure up the limestone karsts.
The French grading system is used in these real rock climbing Krabi courses. There are many climbing schools spread across the coast which can be booked on spot, but it is better to go through an agent in peak seasons. The courses usually comprise of going over the basics during the climb and a trial climb on day 1, practical application of that with the height increasing with every climb on day 2, and finally tackling a multi-pitch climb on day 3.
