Tiger Cave Temple In Krabi
Wat Tham Suea, the Tiger Cave Temple, is the climb everyone in Krabi talks about and the one most first-timers underestimate. It sits on a wooded limestone hill about 9 km northeast of Krabi Town, and the reward at the top is a golden Buddha with a full sweep over the province's karst cliffs and the Andaman coast. Getting u...

Hong Island In Krabi
Hong Island is the day trip most people picture when they imagine Krabi from a boat: a hooked limestone island wrapped around a shallow, jade-green lagoon you paddle straight into. It sits inside the Than Bok Khorani National Park, about 6 km off the Ao Nang coast, roughly a 30-minute longtail ride away. Koh Hong (the Thai ...

Railay Beach In Krabi
Railay Beach sits on a limestone peninsula in Krabi, on Thailand's Andaman coast, and the first thing to know about it is that no road reaches it. Sheer cliffs cut Railay off from the mainland, so you arrive the same way locals have for decades: by longtail boat, about 10 to 15 minutes from Ao Nang. That short crossing is w...

Koh Lanta In Krabi
Koh Lanta is the calm end of Krabi. While Ao Nang and Phi Phi run on day-boats and beach bars, this long island an hour or so south trades the crowds for a string of west-facing beaches, a slow Old Town of stilt houses, and some of the best diving in the Andaman within reach. It sits at the southern edge of Krabi province...

FAQs Packages
Is rock climbing in Krabi good for beginners with no experience?
Yes. The beginner courses on Railay East are designed for people who have never climbed. A certified guide teaches the safety system, fits your gear, belays you and picks easy, well-bolted routes. Most first-timers reach the top of a real climb on their very first half-day session.
How much does rock climbing in Krabi cost?
A half-day beginner course is around 1,000 THB (about Rs 2,850) and a full day is roughly 1,800 to 2,000 THB (about Rs 5,130 to 5,700). Multi-day courses run 3,000 to 6,000 THB. Prices usually include shoes, harness and rope. Boat, water and lunch are extra. Confirm the exact rate with your school.
What if I am scared of heights?
That is normal and it does not stop most people. On a top-rope you are held by the rope the whole time, so you can pause, hang or come down whenever you want. Start on low, easy routes, trust the system and let the guide set the pace. The fear usually fades within the first climb.
What is the best time of year for rock climbing in Krabi?
November to April is the dry climbing season, with December to March the peak for cool, dry rock. May to October is the monsoon, when showers and humidity make walls slick, though it is cheaper and deep water soloing still runs on clear days. For Indian travellers the November-to-March window fits the winter holidays.
Railay or Tonsai, which is better for climbing?
Railay East is better for beginners and all-round climbers, with the most schools and the widest spread of easy grades. Tonsai suits stronger climbers who want steep, overhanging, harder rock and a cheaper, laid-back scene. They are a short boat hop or low-tide walk apart, so many climbers use both.
What is deep water soloing and can beginners try it?
Deep water soloing is rope-free climbing on sea cliffs where the ocean is your safety net. If you fall, you drop into the water. Beginners can try it on easy, low lines while a guide watches the tide and depth. Being comfortable swimming matters more than climbing strength. It runs best on calm dry-season days.
How do I get to Railay Beach for climbing?
By longtail boat only, as no roads reach the peninsula. From Ao Nang the ride is 10 to 15 minutes and boats leave when full. From Krabi Town you board at Ao Nam Mao pier. Boats land on Railay East or West, a short walk apart. Route through Ao Nang if you are coming from the airport or a ferry.
Is climbing gear included or do I bring my own?
Courses and guided sessions include everything technical: climbing shoes, harness, rope, chalk and a helmet where used. You do not need to own or carry any gear. Experienced climbers who want to climb independently can rent a rope, harness and shoes for roughly 300 to 500 THB. Bring your own water and sun protection.
How many climbing routes are there and what grades?
There are more than 700 bolted sport routes across the Railay peninsula. Grades run on the French scale from an approachable 5a for beginners, through classic 6a multi-pitch lines, up to elite 8c test-pieces. The huge number of easy and moderate routes is exactly why Krabi is such a good place to learn.
Is rock climbing in Krabi safe?
It is a controlled, low-risk sport when you climb with a certified school. The bolts are fixed and maintained, you are tied into a harness, and a trained guide belays you so any fall is short and caught by the rope. Choose a reputable operator, follow the safety brief, and it is one of the more beginner-friendly adventure sports you can try.
