  • FAQ's for Kerala

Kerala is one of the most incredible destinations of India and boasts a rich tourism industry. How to reach Kerala is a common question asked by travelers, and there are many options to reach the state.

By Air: Kochi, Thiruvnanthapuram and Kozhikode are home to international airports. Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city, is connected to most of major airports of India, such as Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai among others. The Thiruvananthapuram airport is also well-connected to many of the gulf countries.

By Road: Roads in Kerala are in good condition, and connect the state to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu through national highways. You can hire buses, tourist taxis, and autos which are the main mode of road transport.

By Rail: The Railways connect different destinations within and outside Kerala as there are more than 200 railway stations in the state. For long distances there are super-fast trains and express trains which connect Kerala to Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and other major cities.

By Sea: Apart from these, there are speed-boats, public ferry services, houseboats or ketuvallams for reaching the interiors.

Kerala can be said to be a shopper’s paradise, and travelers can purchase items such as spices, coir products, coconut shell handicrafts, traditional lamps, traditional saris, banana chips and tea leaves.

Most of the cities of Kerala require at least a day to explore fully. You can spend 1 night and 1 day at destinations such as Cochin, Thekkady, Alleppey or Kumarakom, Trivandrum and Cherai. However, for Kovalam and Munnar, spending 2 nights and 2 days exploring the cities is a good idea.

Some of the most important things to carry when traveling to Kerala include:

Mosquito repellent: Especially if going for a houseboat stay
Comfortable clothing: Summer essentials, mostly. A light jacket if visiting Munnar.
Umbrellas: Rain is unpredictable in Kerala.
Comfortable footwear: Ideal for walks on the beach
Sunscreen, sunglasses and hats: To ward off the heat
Camera: To capture the perfect selfies and scenic shots.

Since Kerala is such a diverse state, several days are required to explore all the locations. However, ideal duration for short tours can be said to be around 4 nights 5 days. This would cover Munnar (2), Thekkady (1) & Alleppey (1). A long tour would help you explore more extensively, and cover places such as Kochi (1), Munnar (2), Thekkady (1), Alleppey (1), Kovalam (1), Kanyakumari & Trivandrum (1).

    • Trip to Kerala

I recently visited kerala with my wife and friends and I can't define in words how amazingly awesome it was. My travel agent Mr. Jugraj from Tripkro provided me the perfect Hotels, rooms, itinerary and Cab. More than that the moment I visited Kochi airport we met our driver "Mr. Sukesh" who was like a blessing for us through out our trip, from the beginning of the trip he kept guiding us for every passing sight and explained it's significance. I believe he's one of the most experienced person in Kerala. I would really like to thank Mr. Jugraj who actually was always in touch for everything that we required. When we had issues with the hotel for their service, Jugraj sorted it out at first hand in minutes. And I think such customer service is something which really needs to be appreciated. Moreover, houseboat experience was planned beautifully for 4 of us. Now after this trip I can simply trust Tripkro.com and Jugraj to plan my other travel goals. Really looking forward to many more upcoming amazingly planned trips with Tripkro, especially Jugraj. The best part of the trip was Houseboat stay at Alleppey. It was beautifully planned by the agent.

Everything was fine except the driver/guide. He was polite with us but he was just trying to complete our each day of trip. He doesn't show any enthusiasm to take us for sightseeing. Sometimes he refused as well. Rest was fine.

Famed for fishing villages, temples, delicious cuisines, music and dance tradition, and much more, “God’s Own Country” is a real treat for eyes and soul. Besides sightseeing of the must-visit attractions, our catalog of ideal Kerala tourism packages takes travelers to various other attractions to let them enjoy dolphin spotting at Payyambalam Beach, fishing at Lake Vembanad, marine drive in Kochi, and a bounty of other activities.

What are the other things to do in Kerala?

Embark on a tour to this serenely attractive place, and slow down oneself for a laid-back vacation that stores a bevy of experiences for every tourist. Get ready for a scrumptious treat while savouring multi-cuisine dishes that Kerala has to offer to its visitors. A few must-try Kerala dishes include Appams, Dosai, freshly prepared Seafood, Meen curry and Quail eggs. To gorge on these delicacies, and to make the most of our holiday packages to Kerala, the best way is opting for booking a package during the many cultural festivals of the state, including Onam, Vishu and other major festivals; and grabbing a chance to experience the grandeur of Kerala, like never before.

Bestowed with ecological diversity and timeless traditions, Kerala is truly a prosperous state where even God loves to reside.

Why this southern state is known as ‘God’s Own Country’?

In Hindu Mythology, it’s been proclaimed that once Lord Parasurama, an Avatar of Lord Vishnu, hurled an axe to the north from Kanyakumari, and that led to emergence of a land from the ocean, i.e. Kerala. However, irrespective of what a particular religion claims, as this pace inhabits people from different religions and cultures, the state has so many gods to choose it as their divine provenance. And adding to its significance, as tourists navigate though the rich flora and fauna, the phrase seems even more true. For, here one can still cherish the ancient art of martial arts, known as Kalaripayattu; the most famous and beautiful dance form, called Kathakali; and a lot more that invokes old world charm.

What’s more? In order to cherish an old era, one can visit to a few of primeval sites. Take some time out to stroll through the Paradesi Synagogue, an ancient site constructed in the year of 1568, and choose to dig into history while marvelling at its elaborated gold platform and fancy chandeliers. Fort Kochi, a historical monument, can also be another attraction to explore the heritage. Stop by this hotspot as the dusk falls, and left stunned with the glimpses of its colonial mansions and striking Portuguese churches.

What makes Kerala a famous holiday destination?

Thronged with lazy backwaters, wildlife sanctuaries, and noteworthy sightseeing places, it is not only the natural wonders that urge tourists to extend their sojourn in Kerala.

Famed as the land of spices, spice plantations have been a major attraction in Kerala. Being the leading producer of exclusive spices, like: clove, cardamom, star anise, vanilla, nutmeg, and more since 3000 years, the place serves many aromatic dishes that are food for the soul. Vallam Kali, a boat race, is another tradition that can be enjoyed during the harvest festival of Onam.

Comprising an opportunity to cruise on a houseboat, explore rich culture and wildlife, and enjoy a rendezvous with hundreds of bird species, odd tigers and wild elephants along with indulgence in adventure activities, like: hiking and boat racing to feel some adrenaline rush; this place keeps its visitors hooked till the entirety of their voyage.

However, tourists can cherish their excursion more when there are souvenirs to take back home.

What can one shop in a place like Kerala?

With an array of souvenir items to choose from, a shopaholic would be provoked to spend money extravagantly. Here, one can pick attractive handicrafts made with coconut shells, ivory, wood, metals and more; outlandish spices and gold ornaments as a token of remembrance that reflect history, art and culture of the state. The popular Aranmula Kannadi, a metal mirror, is an exceptional object, something that people must-buy on this tour. Apart from that, ayurvedic products, crunchy banana chips, purest forms of aromatic oils and essence, houseboat models, and kasavu mundu- a traditional attire with a golden zari border are a few things that can tickle memories of this expedition for life.

Being home to craft, culture, and art, the list of shopping items in Kerala can be bigger. And, it is often hard to decide on what to buy and what not.

Though, the above picture seems alluring, after the recent floods people are still skeptical if they can opt Kerala for their next tour?

How safe is a Kerala tour post the recent floods?

Though, the recent floods caused due to torrential showers and overflowing rivers, there was not much damage done to the tourist places. Instead, all the tourist places have been opened for visitors since September 1, 2018, and the state is quite safe for a tour with family and friends. A perfect travel destination for every kind of tourist, including the fussiest ones, here is a chance to celebrate life differing from what a monotonous routine calls for.

Now, as scanning of this beguiling tourist destination is done, it is high time to scroll through our customizable Kerala tour packages that are ideal for exploring God’s own country; and set off for a voyage in the midst of wondrous landscapes of the state for an unmatchable experience.
