Dong Xuan Market is the largest roofed indoor market in Hanoi and also the busiest one by far. Within a stone-throwing distance of Hoan Kiem Lake in the old quarter of Hanoi, this French-era marketplace is the hub for cheap wholesale trade in Hanoi. Do not fall into the trap of common conceptions.

As abundant as historical and cultural sites are in Hanoi, that is not all there is to the city. If tourists are travelling to Hanoi, there is a lot more they can do than just visit historically and culturally relevant sites. Let us take a look at the best and most fun things to do in Hanoi:

Bike around the Ngoc Son

Hanoi is a very biking-friendly city. In fact, biking is probably the most preferred option by tourists to stroll around and explore the city. A bike tour around the city will help one access some of its best and most underrated interior spots. However, biking is especially fun to do around the Ngoc Son Temple, which is located near the Hoàn Kiem Lake. The view from there is mesmerising, and tourists consider watching the sunrise or sunset from there to be one of the best activities to do in Hanoi.

Watch water puppet theatre

Watching a water puppet theatre performance is one of the top things to do as part of Hanoi nightlife. It is a unique part of Vietnamese drama culture. Performances are usually conducted at least 5 times a day. Puppets can be seen dancing over a liquid stage. They are controlled by puppet masters who work their magic behind the scenes. Most of them tell the story of a giant tortoise in the Hoàn Kiem Lake.

Explore the Hanoi old quarter

The Old Quarter of Hanoi is the part of the city that used to be under French control. As a result, we can find lots of French influences in the lifestyle, architecture, and culture of the area to date. Wandering around the French Quarter is one of the enjoyable things to do in Hanoi Old Quarter, as it increases awareness of colonial French architecture. The old quarter is a famous business area and is filled with hawkers on its streets, selling souvenirs and food. Trying out the street food here is a must.

Shop at Dong Xuan

When it comes to shopping in Hanoi, the Dong Xuan Market is the place to go to. It is a four-storeyed Soviet-style premise. The fish market on the ground floor is possibly one of the most extensive fish markets one will ever encounter. Name any species of fish, and it is bound to be found and sold there. Thus, the place is not for those whose noses are particularly sensitive to the smell of fish. Not just fish, the Dong Xuan Market is home to a variety of other shops as well as souvenirs, clothes, especially printed T-shirts, at the most unimaginably low prices.

Go to the Hanoi Opera House

The architecture of the Hanoi Opera House is inspired by that of the Paris Opera House. It is located in the French part of the city. It was built for the purpose of the entertainment of the French rulers during their reign. The House went into ruin and had to be renovated after the French left the country. The price of an opera performance may be from anywhere between 300 INR to 6000 INR as it depends on the performance. Mostly the performances consist of a Vietnamese style of opera, ballet, and a music concert.

✨ **A Heartfelt Shoutout to the SVietnam Team – Especially Anne & Tina!** ✨ We just returned from what we can proudly call *the most memorable trip of our lives*, all thanks to the incredible planning and dedication of **Anne and Tina**. From the very first interaction till the final goodbye, every single detail of our Vietnam journey was handled with absolute perfection. What stood out most was the **personalized touch**. They didn’t just plan an itinerary – they carefully listened to our preferences, customized everything around the locations we dreamed of visiting, and even added their own valuable recommendations that made our trip extra special. Every request, every service, every check-in and transfer was not only arranged but followed up on until completed. The level of coordination was simply *next-level*. Here’s a glimpse of the magical journey they created for us:

Sindhuvusirikapalli's 7 days trip to Hanoi

We were extremely disappointed with hotels at Hanoi and Hochi man city. We booked 4 star but the standard was like 2 star. We spoke to travel agent on the Day one, but she said the hotels in Hanoi will be like this. However, in DaNang and halong bay cruise were good. The tour guide and the cab driver were very friendly. Preetika's 8 days trip to Hanoi

One day should be kept completely free at each destination. In our trip half a day was planned, due to daily tours one doesn't get anytime to experience the city by walk and explore. Also last leg ie HCM in my tour wasn't planned as well as Hanoi wnd DaNang, as a result, there was no time to visit CuChi tunnels, war museum etc. it seemed the agent had got tired and didn't prioritise or was not well versed with HCM city leaving these war memorials optional. Ha Long Bay Cruise. Ninh Binh boat ride. Bana Hills, Hoi An Ancient town. Shopping and Hop on Hop Off bus tours in Hanoi and HCM city
