Madhumita Das hailing from Kolkata describes her honeymoon experience in the cities of North India. Her trip which included visits to Delhi, Agra, Amritsar, Manali, and Shimla was a mix of adventure, history, and modern lifestyle. She booked her package from TravelTriangle and it included her transfers, hotels, and sightseeing all for a cost of INR 40000. Let us hear her story.
Our honeymoon trip had been delayed for some reason and so one day when my husband asked me to pack up for a trip to North India, I was totally taken aback. He had been planning the trip for a while and wanted to give me a surprise. I did not believe him initially, but when he showed me the reservations and vouchers, I realized all of it was for real.
I was overwhelmed with happiness!
Our honeymoon included the best cities of north India – Delhi, Agra, Amritsar, Manali, and Shimla.
My husband had booked our package via TravelTriangle which he had found on the internet. Initially planning on Maldives and then Goa, he finally settled for these Indian cities (Delhi, Agra, Amritsar, Manali, & Shimla) because they offered us an exciting itinerary and a longer stay!
Our travel agent ‘Shoes On Loose’ had customized the trip as per our preference and booking a package through them turned out to be a hassle free affair – all thanks to TravelTriangle.
Day 1: Sightseeing in Delhi
We landed in Delhi from Kolkata and were transferred to the ‘Hotel Perfect’ from the airport. After relaxing in the hotel for a while, we set off for the majestic India Gate. This was a nice experience even though we could not enter the area due to security reasons. (Republic Day) After clicking some photos and enjoying the winter ambience there, we returned to our hotel and retired for the night.
Day 2: Taj Mahal in Agra
This was a day planned for a visit to the majestic ‘Taj Mahal’. We checked out of the hotel and were excited about the road trip from Delhi to Agra. ‘Taj Mahal’ was a mind blowing experience and I was enchanted by the whiteness of it. We clicked some good pictures here and enjoyed our monument tour thanks to a very good guide!
Later, we went to the local market and indulged in some shopping. I got myself a saree (made from pineapple leaves), a candle stand, and many souvenirs. We also ate and bought the famous ‘Agra ka Petha’, something which I always wanted to taste. We then proceeded on for an overnight journey to Amritsar!
Day 3: Wagah Border in Amritsar
After reaching Amritsar in the morning, we rested for a while in our hotel – ‘Hotel Puri Palace’. Once we were done relaxing, we proceeded on for the ‘Wagah Border Parade’ from Amritsar. It was a 2-3 hour journey and by the time we reached there, it was raining heavily.
We were drenched as we watched the show, but it was worth it. I loved how the spirited soldiers carried on their duty even during rough weather and conditions.
After returning from the show in the evening, we again proceeded for a road journey to Manali. overnight journey to Manali.
Day 4: Manali: sightseeing
We reached Manali in the morning and checked into ‘Hotel Harmony’. To our surprise, we were also greeted with a ‘Welcome Cake’.
After resting for a while, we proceeded on to visit the ‘Hadimba Devi Temple’ in Manali. Built around a cave and surrounded by beautiful Cedar Trees, this was a magical experience.

Day 5: Solang Valley (Kullu)
This was the day we visited Solang Valley in Kullu and I had the most amazing experience ever – Paragliding! Initially reluctant, I finally decided to go ahead with paragliding when everyone around me encouraged to face my fear of heights. It was a life changing experience and by the end of it, I felt so relaxed and happy.
Later on, we also visited the ‘Snow Point’ in the valley and had an amazing time there. We did skiing, rode the snowmobile and even played in the snow. It was an awesome experience and we both had great fun there.
Back to the hotel, we were surprised to find our room decorated with flowers. It was a small gesture, but we loved it.
Day 6: Shopping in Manali
This was our last day in Manali and we did a lot of shopping! Later we went back to the hotel and proceeded for our road journey to Shimla.
Day 7: Shopping in Shimla
We arrived in Shimla in the morning and most of our time was spent in the hotel only. In the evening, we roamed around in the vicinity (mall road) and indulged in shopping where I bought myself a lot of shawls and souvenirs.
Day 8: Delhi to Kolkata
We left for Delhi in the morning and reached on time for our flight back to Kolkata.
This surprise honeymoon exceeded my expectations! I loved how each city brought us closer. From the urban historic charm of Delhi to the magnificent Taj in Agra to the patriotic Wagah Border Show in rain – everything was great. The scenic backgrounds of Manali and Shimla complemented our love story and gave us a lifetime of memories to cherish.
High Points – One of the best memories that I had on the trip was when I did Paragliding. It was an exhilarating moment for me to be in the sky and I felt like a bird! Apart from this, our driver cum guide was really helpful and cooperative throughout the journey. The hotel in Manali was really nice and we also loved all the sightseeing, especially the Taj Mahal.
Low Points – We had a little difficulty in finding our driver when we landed in Delhi. The room in Shimla had housekeeping issues.
Tips for future travelers – Everyone should go visit these places in winters since they become extra awesome during this time, especially Manali and Shimla.
Get mesmerized in beautiful Manali ambiance. Roam around the snow-capped mountains, embrace the child in you by playing around in the white ice taking in the serenity and tranquility from the atmosphere. Cozy up and get romantic on your honeymoon in Manali and experience the hills in the most funfilled possible!
