Best Places to Visit During a Bhutan Budget Tour
We'll tell you all the important things that you need to know about traveling to Bhutan, starting from 5 top spots that you need to see here:
- Rinpung Dzong Located in Paro, this place is popularly known as Paro Dzong. It is a fortress founded in the 15th century. It features a massive structure with towering walls, courtyards, temples, and offices. It has around 14 chapels and shrines inside it. If you can schedule your trip around March or April you can experience the Tsechu festival here and delve into the culture of Bhutan.
- Motithang Takin Preserve This place is for all nature enthusiasts. Do you know what a Takin is? It's Bhutan's national animal, which is a very lesser known fact about Bhutan. It is protected in a preserve here due to being a rare species and bears similarity to an antelope and a goat. It is inside a pine forest which is an excellent opportunity for trekking before going to see the Takins and other Himalayan animals like goats, sambal deer, and barking deer.
- Phobjikha Valley This glacial valley nests at the east of Thimphu. If your trip is around winter you can get a chance to see the black-necked cranes that fly over here during mid-October and other globally threatened species.
- Tiger's Nest Monastery One of the most peaceful and serene sites of Bhutan, located alongside a cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley. You can only reach this place by hiking as there is no other means of transport. It is not a difficult trek and can be easily finished, it takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to reach. There are horses available for a half-way trail but not till the top and you even have a restaurant to stop by for refreshments.
- Laya, Bhutan This remote place is accessible through a 2-day hike from the closest town, Gasa which means you are in for one hell of a ride.
