About Vietnam Tourism
Vietnam, the Land of the Ascending Dragons, is the easternmost country in the Indochina peninsula. Bordered by Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos in the west and south-west, China in the north and the South China Sea on the rest of the sides, Vietnam is gradually growing into a major South-East Asian tourist destination. Vietnam tourism has been on the rise for the last few years, along with the country’s economic development.
People and Culture in Vietnam
Despite being such a war-ravaged country in the past, it is now quite peaceful and also a very beautiful location for destination tours. The best part about Vietnam is its eclectic nature. But while rural Vietnam is all about fishing and paddy fields, the urban fabric is as good as any South Asian city one can think of. The places to visit or the things to do, or the shopping and seaside destinations are all different feels and flavors. The main cities of the country are Hanoi, which is the capital and Ho Chi Minh, which is named after the country’s most important leader.
About Famous Vietnamese Food
Pho is a very famous meal here, which is basically noodles and soup with chicken or beef, garnished with basil, beans, and lime. It is a very popular gourmet as well as street food. Summer rolls or Goi Cuon, made of shrimp or pork and rolled in rice paper are must-haves. Skewered meats are popular as usual, found abundantly in any eatery around Vietnam.
Historical Tour in Vietnam
The history of Vietnam is as dynamic as its natural topography. For the first millennium in the AD era, Vietnam City was under the Imperial rule of China. Once again it was captured by French forces in the early to mid-19th century when colonialism was at its peak. During the world wars, especially the second one, Vietnam became a hotspot for raging warfare because of its location. The Japanese occupation during the 1940s had a long-drawn effect which led to both the Indochina wars. Cruising down the Mekong River, enjoying the slow deltaic pace of the stream and the lush green fields around, is an experience that defines Vietnam to a large extent.
The beaches of Vietnam are equally beautiful. Nha Trang and Phu Quoc Islands are the paradise destinations for the best beaches. With the crystal blue or green water, warm white stretches of sand and coconuts or palms lining the coastline, these beaches are just perfect for a day of relaxation. One can try out the various water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling and waterboarding as well if they are comfortable with it.
An ideal spot for romantic getaway, Halong Bay’s emerald green surface and the interruptions by limestone karst structures here and there is an absolute delight to explore. Halong Bay is one of the main incentives for Vietnam tourism from India. One look at the landscape of the bay and the reason behind its irresistible charm can be understood easily.
For the adrenaline junkies, adventure activities are right at hand too. Apart from the usual trekking and water diving sports, Vietnam has this unique adventure where one can dive into enormously deep caves and caverns in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
The coastal city of Nha Trang is quite a hub for nightclubs and live music haunts. The main cities – Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City brim with similar nightlife scenes. But other than bars and pubs, there are other attractions as well, which you can find out in any Vietnam guide. The night markets of Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City are perfect for some night-time shopping.
Most of the open-air shopping areas in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City sell apparels, watches, jewelry and similar small trinkets and accessories at cheap rates. The night markets once again are an essential part of Vietnamese shopping.
There are sky-high buildings and shopping malls, there are places for gourmet dining and impulsive shopping, and there are way too many points of interest for sightseeing. Both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have museums devoted to war stories, anecdotes, events and physical matters like weapons and artillery. The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi is a must-see monument, if you visit Vietnam.
Main Festivals of Vietnam
The country has its share of grand and vibrant festivals all around the year. Lunar New Year during January is the biggest one in the country, locally called Tet. The Hue festival in the summer takes place in the ancient city of Hue once every two years and preserves the age-old customs of the Nguyen Dynasty. The dragon dance and boat travel associated with the perfume festival of Hanoi are certainly not to be missed if it happens while you are there.
