About Egypt Tourism

Egypt is famous for rich history, culture, and heritage. The place has seen famous civilizations and houses wonders of the world. The beautiful country lies in the Northeast part of Africa. Egypt has seen an increase in the number of tourists in the recent years. Egypt – the name itself invokes a sense of mysterious antiquity. Over the years, the country has had many regimes at the helm, most prominently the Ottoman and the British Empires. Blessed with magnificent monuments, lush delta, beguiling desert and mighty Nile, this place offers an unmatchable experience as one decides to book a package for Egypt tourism.

Pyramids, although they exist in many other civilizations around the world, are somehow inseparably associated with Egypt. The country has many of these grand tombs of the Pharaohs scattered around the desert area and seeing all of them is quite impossible. But Egypt travel is incomplete without visiting at least some of them. The Pyramid of Giza, the Great Sphinx and the Pyramid of Khufu are the most famous ones. But there are some lesser-known ones as well, which are worth the time and money for the Egypt pyramids tour – Pyramid of Khafre, the Red Pyramid, Step Pyramid of Djoser and the Pyramid of Menkaure.

History of Egypt

Egypt has always been known as a destination for tourists throughout the history. And, the discovery of Pharaohs have been adding a special charm to the place. As far as the ancient Egypt and its civilization is concerned, the country’s history actually predates every other human existence in the world, barring the Sumerian civilization. Together with Mesopotamia, Egypt forms the world’s oldest Cradle of Civilization in the valleys of Nile, Tigris and Euphrates. Unlike many other countries with such dynamic pasts, Egypt has not let go of its roots. The legacy of the great Egyptian Empire is an integral part of the country’s identity and Egypt tourism now.

Tourism in Egypt

Egypt tourism is one of the leading sources of income in Egypt and contributes to the economy. The place sees around 14.7 million visitors almost every year. The tourism industry is flourishing and around 12 percent of local population is dedicated and employed for Egypt tourism.

Top Cities To Explore in Egypt

While most of the attractions of Egypt tours are located well inside the country, the coastlines along the Mediterranean and the Red Sea are quite as impressive. Mahmya Island, Soma Bay, Sharm-El-Luli and El Gouna are some of the best ones on the Red Sea, while Fjord Bay Beach and Agiba Mediterranean Beach are two other gems with dazzling blue waters.

Here are some of the best cities to visit on your trip to Egypt:

1. Cairo:

When you visit Egypt, the first city that should be on your itinerary is Cairo. It is not only the capital of the country but also one of the most iconic cities of Africa and the Middle East together. The modern city was established in around 969 BCE by the Fatimid Dynasty. The remnants of the old city are still there in parts in Old Cairo, so are the ancient city of Memphis and the Giza Pyramid Complex.

2. Alexandria:

Alexandria, founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, is a beautiful port city along the Mediterranean in northern Egypt. Alexandria had a Hellenistic period lighthouse, known to be an important Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Dotted with Greco-Roman landmark, old-school cafes and a stretch of sandy beach along the sea, Alexandria is a must-visit on your Egypt tour.

3. Aswan:

Aswan is a lovely tourist city and port market, located very strategically on the Nile. Every river cruise on the Nile passes through Aswan and shows a glimpse of the legendary Aswan Dan and the Columned Temple of Isis. Aswan has always been the commercial gateway to Egypt from down south, and also home to many such ancient architectures and temples.

4. Giza:

Cairo and Giza are often visited together, but they are different cities. Giza is the third-largest in Egypt, located on the west bank of Nile. Giza is home to the renowned Giza Pyramid of King Khufu and the Great Sphinx. After Cairo, it is probably the most visited and photographed city of Egypt.

5. Luxor:

Luxor lies on the eastern side of Nile down south and is located on the site of ancient Thebes. During the height of Pharaoh Regime in the 16th-11th century BCE, Thebes was the capital of their empire. Thus, there were a great many temples, tombs and other buildings on this site, but only two have survived – the Luxor and Karnak Temple.

Travel to Egypt

Read about the best & quickest routes to save time & money, as suggested by our travelers

By Air

Cairo and Luxor are the two main airports in Egypt, with Aswan, Alexandria and Sharm el-Sheikh as close runner-ups. Sharm el-Sheikh is mostly visited directly by those interested in a vacation in Red Sea. However, Cairo Airport boasts most of the airlines operating flights to and from India. All the major Indian cities with airports have frequent flights to Cairo. Flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata to Egypt are very common. The fastest flight to Egypt is from Mumbai. This is the only nonstop flight to Cairo from Mumbai and it runs three days a week – Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The flight takes around 6 hours 40 minutes and is operated by Egyptair. The next best option to go to Egypt by air is the one-stop flight from Delhi by Kuwait Airways and Egypt Air via Kuwait City, which takes around 8 hours. From Chennai there are many one-stop flights as well.

By Train

There are no feasible ways to go from India to Egypt by train. But inside the country, Egyptian Railways are very easy to travel in from one city to another. Cairo to Alexandria is the most common line, but there are trains to Luxor, Suez, Port Said and Aswan as well. The scenery, dotted with palms and fields and sometimes the Nile, is beautiful, to say the least.

By Road

If you look at the Egypt map, you can see it is located right at the border of Asia, over-pouring a little bit onto the part called Middle-East. So it can be said that theoretically, Egypt can be driven to from India. But the distance of the Egypt route by road from India is nearly 4500 kilometres. The route goes from India through Pakistan, Iran, Iraq and parts of Jordan and Israel to reach Egypt. Given the geographical as well as a socio-political scenario, that is not the best option to go for. You will need way too many permission and documents to pass through that many borders, and the journey will not be quite as comfortable. However, if you are already travelling in Israel or Jordan, there are ways to go to Egypt by bus. Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Amman have bus services to Cairo.

First the good things: 1. Customized trip planning by Lalith - all questions answered, and offered many suggestions. Very helpful. 2. The Visa processing part was smooth 3. The trip guides/drivers were absolutely on time. I was floored by this - very very commendable 4. Guides were pretty know
ledgeable and non-pushy 5. Well-behaved guides and drivers and the co-ordination was near perfect Things that need to change/improve: 1. The requirements for travel were either COVID-19 vaccination certificate or COVID-19- testing for non-vaccinated people. This IS NOT REQUIRED according to the VFS site and should not have been there on the list. This was a waste of money and added hassle. 2. TIPS: It was mentioned tips are mandatory and $5 per person/day was to be collected. But when we landed no one mentioned or collected it. When we left Cairo for other cities and the cruise - everyone asked for tips, which we paid. Found out the on-ground people had not communicated about it and the end vendor wasn't aware or wasn't receiving it. So we ended up paying more than what was necessary. My suggestion is to let customers know that tipping is a part of Egyptian tourism culture and what the normal/general tips are let them handle it so that at least the deserving people receive it. 3. The cabin for the cruise was a bit small for 3 people. I wish during planning I was offered a few choices about different sized rooms with each costing so that I could make an informed decision.

We had a great time with our family in Egypt. Many thanks to Travel Traingle for their management. We had a smooth trip. We went with two senior members and one toddler. They made sure to execute the plans as per schedule. The agent from India, Aman was very polite and answered whenever we had any q
uestion prior and in the middle of the trip. The agent from Egypt, Ali was polite and well mannered as well. At the day of Eid, when we were supposed to visit one place in Luxor in the evening, the guide was not available and we got to know that once we were ready and waiting for him. We contacted Aman since Ali was unavailable. Aman contacted and let us know about the plan being postponed to next day. We had a great trip next day and we covered all the places. I think, due to Eid, we had this minor issue. otherwise, everything went great! We would definitely recommend this travel planner for your next Egypt trip.

Our overall tour was really good. The agency Travel Lykke in great detail explained the itinerary and were at hand to answer any questions about POC in Egypt, visa and other things to keep in mind while in Egypt. The local coordinator, Hossam was really kind & helpful. He even waited with us on stat
ion for 4 hours for the train. Each guide in each city - Muhammad, Mona Lisa & Dua - were really knowledgeable as well as friendly. Travel Lykke recommended us a tour to the Baheriya Oasis which became the highlight of our trip. The White & black desert, camping under the stars, eating with the local Bedouins was simply mesmerising. The cons on this tour were primarily regrading the trains. We'd specifically & repeatedly asked to book trains that ensured we reached the other city between 10-10:30 am. It was so that, we could maximize our sightseeing before boarding the train & arrive at a decent time to check-in at the hotel. That wasn't followed. That was really unpleasant, as we'd to wait in the hotel lobby for long hours. Also, even after requesting beforehand in the train vegetarian food wasn't booked - one traveller was vegetarian. We weren't even told about that, otherwise we'd have made alternate arrangements. Proper communication about these things would have made the experience great

Thanks to Travel Lykke team to make our travel to Egypt safe and a memorable experience. The team was quite supportive from the planning stage of the trip up until the end. However, there are a few gaps we found and some unpleasant experiences during the trip which should be improved upon for futur
e travelers. Especially to countries like Egypt where communication is a big issue and safety is not always to be taken for granted. I can elaborate on this with the right contact person from Travel Lykke or Triangle Tours anytime
