Austria Travel Guide
Austria tourism is all about castles, palaces, mountains, lakes, art, history, architecture, music and so much more. Austria is bordered by Italy and Slovenia towards the south, Germany and the Czech Republic from the north, Liechtenstein and Switzerland to the west and Hungary and Slovakia to the east. It is one of the most popular places to visit for those touring Europe, thanks to its strategic position, from where it is easy to visit several other countries.
But apart from the gorgeous architecture and art that the cities of Austria proffer, the country also has an abundance of natural beauty. From small villages that hug tiny lakes and huge mountains to the rolling meadows just outside of major cities, Austria tourism is a haven for nature lovers as well.
History of Austria
The region was inhabited by the Celtic tribes before it was claimed by the Roman Empire. Charlemagne introduced Christianity to the area after the fall of the Empire. From about 13th century to the end of the World War I, the country was ruled by the Habsburg emperors such as Sigismund, Leopold I, Charles VI, etc. During the Second World War, the country was annexed to the Nazi Germany in 1938 and remained so until April 1945.
Today, Austria is a particularly enjoyable place for history and art lovers, given the many heritage monuments, UNESCO World Heritage Spots, museums and art galleries here. Being part of the European Union, Austria enjoys the same privileges as all the other countries that are part of the Union, hence the same currency, the same visa and mostly, the same pace of life.

Trip to EuropeHad a good time in Austria and Switzerland. Devaansh, Puja and team were very proactive in suggesting multiple options, helping us plan and guided us throughout the trip. I like customizing trips according to my preferences and the team was patient and helpful throughout both in the planning and execution, considering the places I wanted to cover. Would recommend.
Trip to EuropeThe planning and finalization of our trip by Mr shubham to Czech Republic ,Austria, Hungary through this tour company was incredibly easy. Our travel specialist Mr Shubham guided us on a phone to use if we encountered any problems during our vacation. All of our transports from the airport and train stations were worry-free. I would highly recommend this tour company to anyone interested in traveling to Czech Republic ,Austria, Hungary . We enjoyed the smaller cities (Salzburg and Innsbruck) and the ability to explore these areas on foot. We also preferred the small group excursions (Maximum 12 people) and the private walking tour we booked. We traveled by train so we could see more of the countryside. The scenery was amazing!
Trip to Europe"Travel with no regrets" is what i would like to say before planning on to any trip. So i had booked a 9 Nights and 10 Days customised package to Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice) and Austria (Vienna). Well where do i start from right from airport pick, the hotel bookings, Places recommended, City tours, train travel to different cities and drop-off at the airport everything was so smooth with Street Romeo Travel planner ; they also are always there to help you if you have any queries during the trip too without any issues. Also the really good part was the pickup and drop off at the airport cause we were provided with chauffeur driven Mercedes E class cars which is usually not common and majority of the travel agents don't provide & this had not cost us extra at all everything was well within the budget estimate provided to us. I came across Street Romeo Travel planner through Travel Triangle, and they were the one who had given me the best budget for the trip so with no questions asked we went ahead with them. Great Job Team Street Romeo Travel Planner. Keep it up!! Cheers.
Trip to New ZealandWe recently visited Switzerland and Austria through Travel Triangle for our honeymoon. Rohit from HubHolidays (one of the agent of Travel Triangle) designed our itinerary. To begin with i would say i was little skeptical going with Travel Triangle as this was my first trip with them and none of my acquaintance had gone with them. However our trip went smoothly thanks to Rohit who was there to help us at any time, be it day/night. All the hotels and sightseeing tickets were handed over to us well in advance which helped us to understand how we will be moving from one place to other. We lost our 1 day because of the airline problem but Rohit and Prashant helped us cover our entire itinerary despite loss of one valuable day. All in all i would say everything was crafted to perfection be it the itinerary or the hotel rooms or the sightseeing. We were delighted as all the things which were promised at the time of booking the tour were delivered. Once again heartfelt thanks to Rohit for all the support extended. Regards Abhijit and Apurva
Trip to EuropeWe went to Cover some part of Austria - Prague - Hallsatt- Salzburg- Innsbruck- Vienna-Brastalava- Budapest. The trip was very well planned and we got all details and vouchers well in time . Mr. Siddhant was very helpful at all times . It was a very wonderful trip organized .
Trip to SwitzerlandHi, Thanks for helping us in arranging for this memorable and wonderful trip. Kudos to Siddharth from Bollywood Holidays for taking care of everything. He was in continuous touch while we were traveling, reminding us on booked tours and trips. :) There are few points we could like to highlight for making the same itinerary better : 1. We were not communicated that Jungfrau voucher needs to be exchanged for ticket in Interlaken. This created confusion and we had to pay 10eur for the same to exchange the pass with train ticket. FYI Swiss pass is applicable only till Wengen and one has to buy train tickets if they are traveling beyond Wengen, i.e. going to Jungfrau, if they haven't exchanged voucher with tickets in Interlaken Ost. 2. Though we requested to stay at Wengen for 4 nights, but we could have shifted to Zurich one night before. We initially asked if there was a direct train from Wengen to Innsbruck, but that was not the case and we end up changing trains 4 times before reaching Innsbruck. Shifted to Zurich one day before could have saved some time for us. This is a suggestion for next trip Bollywood Holidays plans. 3 . We need to buy ticket from Wengen to Interlaken on 6 june, as per the initial plan when we booked the trip, all travel was covered. 4. We felt that Austria time should have been cut short. Though we asked for 11 day plan, providing suggestion, like there is not much you could do & can think of shorting the trip or you can cover one more country, helps both party. 5. Sound of music tour was not worth the time and money. FYI for next trip you guys are planning. Only if one is hardcore fan of the movie, they will enjoy it. Though online reviews are it's good even if you decently like the movie as it covers the city outshirts..that was definitely not the case. 6. Rather than booking 2 city tours in Innsbruck, it was better to take city pass. This suggestion should have came from Agent. We realized that city pass is a better option for Innsbruck & Salzburg after reaching cities. 7. All major tourist places closes at 5 PM. So it's better to book a train which starts such that we get the full day at one place before 5PM, if possible. This is again a feedback to make the experience better for the travellers. Jungfrau excursion, trek to Murren, cafes in Interlaken, trummelbach fall in lautebrunnen.
Trip to SwitzerlandHotels provided in Amsterdam, Austria, Switzerland were excellent though breakfast provided was not very good in Apart hotel Switzerland but room was very good. Sight seeing suggestions for Amsterdam Switzerland and Paris was very good. Special thanks to Amit and Kavita from Globus for hotels provided and sight seeing suggestions. They were very responsive and helpful. Thanks to prabhakar too from travel triangle. Due to ease of public transport in Europe sight seeing was hassle free and tours suggested were good. For Austria hop on hop off tour instead of tram tour would have been a better option. In certain cities providing hotel transfers and train station transfers where it is not very close will improve the experience. In case it is on travelers they should be informed to keep cost in mind. Local taxis are very expensive in some places like Paris and sometimes they cheat and charge more. Also in case checkout time is 6-8 hours before airport transport it should be clearly mentioned in the itenerary otherwise it leads to confusion at the hotel. Providing a tour on that particular day with details on the itenerary to checkout and leave baggage at hotel will improve experience. Overall providing the details itenerary at least 1 month in advance(leaving side a few details that may not be available then) will help avoid above mentioned ambiguities. Dutch village tour in Netherlands was amazing experience. Stay at Hampton by hilton was very comfortable. Mt. Schilthorn and Montreax sight seeing was memorable in Switzerland. Paris Sienne cruise was a good experience.
Trip to EuropeBeing based out of London and to choose Duniya Safari out of all the Tour operators - speaks in itself. I had floated my desired itinerary out and DS not just responded to my request but ensured every bit of my intent and plans to see Hungary and Austria was captured. Right from being proactive in sending me all the quotes, helping me with the visa consultation, a smooth payment process, to sharing the vouchers - everything was pristine. I didn't miss a local tour operator or a guide as Duniya Safari had taken care of everything. Right from taxi bookings, to railway reservations to the flights. Mayuri and team went beyond routine to ensure we were taken care of. As a highlight - we would get a notification every morning as to what is the plan for the day and how do I effectively manage the day. The team was virtually with us throughout the tour. From the time I was intending for a Trip across Europe to the time I settled back home - Duniya Safari kept me happy. No doubt, Duniya Safari will be the team I go back to when I plan my next trip. My heartfelt thanks to a special Mayuri Ganguly for being patient with my tantrums and demands and to the Team including - Prasurya, Siddhanth for giving me a holiday experience to remember. Thank you.
