Allahabad Fort History
It was constructed in the year 1853 by the great Mughal Emperor, Akbar. Initially, the fort was named as Illahabas – meaning blessed by God. 4. Khusro Bagh
It is basically a large-walled burial complex situated near the Allahabad Junction Station. It also houses various tombs in the premises and has three mausoleums made of sandstone. Akshayavat is a sacred fig tree as per Hindu mythology. The meaning of its name is ‘indestructible banyan tree’. It is believed that Ram, Lakshman, and Sita rested under this tree. Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation runs buses from major Indian cities such as Meerut, Delhi, and Jhansi to Allahabad. The Civil Lines Bus Stand in Allahabad is at a distance of 6 km from the fort. Take an auto or rickshaw from the bus stand to reach the fort.
Allahabad Junction Railway Station is the nearest railway station which is around 5 km from the fort. One can easily book a taxi or cab to reach the fort from there.
