Shergarh Fort is located beside the Parbvan river in the Atru Tehsil of Baran in Rajasthan. The place is popular for its ancient Jain and Brahmanical temples.  It is one of Baran’s popular tourist attraction. Shergarh fort got its name after its capture by Shershah of the Sur dynasty. Visitors can see an inscription from 790 AD reflecting Shergarh fort’s history while visiting this great fort.

Constructed in 1521 by Chauhan Vanshi Dhandhel Rajput Mukutmani Dev, Shahabad Fort is an ancient fort. It is situated on the hilltop amidst a forest area. Situated about 80km from Baran, this fort is considered as the strongest and the best fort in the entire Hadoti region. In the premised of the fort, you can find a topkhana or artillery, as well as some temples. An interesting fact about the fort is that Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb also lived here for sometime.

2. Brahmani Mataji Temple

Located 20 km from Baran in the Sorsan Village, Brahmani Mataji Temple is situated inside an ancient old fort. It is believed that there is an Akhand Jyoti in the temple which is burning for the last 400 years. The statue of the Hindu Goddess Brahmani Mata is placed in a cave under a big rock in the temple. A grand fair is organised every year on the occasion of Shivaratri where animals are traded in large numbers.

3. Shahi Jama Masjid

The Shahi Jama Masjid is located in the city of Shahabad at a distance of about 80 km from Baran. This beautiful mosque was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb. It was built on the pattern of Jama Masjid of Delhi and is famous for its huge pillars and mehrab. The splendid architectural marvel attracts a large number of tourists every year.

4. Bhand Devra Temple

Built in the Khajuraho style of architecture, Bhand Devra Temple is also known as the mini ‘Khajuraho of Rajasthan’. It is located on the Ramgarh Hill, 40 km away from Baran. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu Lord Shiva. Kisnai and Annapurna Devi are among other temples located on the Ramgarh Hill. On the occasion of Kartik Purnima, a splendid fair is organised and devotees come in large numbers to participate in it. At present, the temple is protected by the Archaeological Department.

Shergarh sanctuary is a perfect destination for nature lovers. It is located in Shergarh village about 65 km from Baran district.
