Taking some time off from his busy schedule for his family, Kunal Mehta booked a four-day tour package to Jaisalmer through TravelTraingle. This package included a luxury stay, private transfers, desert safari and local tour — for four people. In spite of missing his train on the first day, he carried on with the trip and came home with a plethora of memories to cherish. Take a look on his account of the trip.

Traveling is a must for everyone, not merely to escape the web of routine but to refresh one’s whole system. Running short on time and with my family along, this time I needed someone to take care of the logistic requirements. On a friend’s recommendation, I entrusted TravelTriangle with this task of sharing the responsibility of my trip.

Day 1: Jodhpur – The journey must go on

After taking a train from Delhi to Jodhpur at night, we were supposed to be driven to Jaisalmer via Shri Osiya Mataji during the day and reach by the evening. But unfortunately, we missed our train.

We were on the verge of cancelling the trip, but luckily, managed to reach Jaisalmer by train in the morning of the next day and carried on. Even though we were missing the entire Jodhpur-Osiya belt, we made up by managing the traveling part and followed up with the itinerary. The initial plan was to stay at Rang Mahal, Jaisalmer, for 2 nights and Sam Safari for another, but we shortened it to one night each.

Day 2: Jaisalmer – Traditional extravagance

Inside Raj Mahal

A day’s delay lead us straight to Jaisalmer in the afternoon. We were picked up from the railway station and got dropped at the grand Rang Mahal. The hotel with its lavish interiors, grand paintings, and stone walls could give any ancient fort a run for its money. Not only is the hotel built keeping the traditional Rajasthan alive, but also caters to the luxury-seekers, with its highly well-maintained swimming pools and lush green lawns.

After a brief rest at the hotel, we started exploring the city by taking a local tour of Jaisalmer. We began by visiting Patwon ki haveli, Nathmal Ji ki Haveli, Salim Singh Ki Haveli and Jain temples. Later at the Gadisar Lake we got to indulge in boating, which we thoroughly enjoyed together as a family.

Day 3: Sam Sand Dunes – Experiencing the colors of Jaisalmer

On a bright sunny second day of our trip, we reached Sam Sand Dunes, situated on the outskirts of Jaisalmer. Here, we indulged in Jeep Safari in the magnificent sands of the Thar Desert. Our experience turned out to be amazing but tiring at the same time, due to immense heat.

Desert Safari at Sam Sand Dunes

Amidst the heat, I thought it would be better to stay back at the hotel in the night than at the camp. So I spoke to the Rang Mahal authorities about extending my stay by a night. They not only complied by extending our stay, but didn’t even charge anything extra. On the other hand, the authorities at Sam Sand Dunes proved further helpful by making the jeep safari complementary, in place of giving a refund for cancelling the night stay at their camps. The welcoming attitude and the cooperative responses of the people drove me to think — Were we lucky or is Kindness the norm in and around Jaisalmer?

Sunset at Sam Sand Dunes

After the desert safari, we got to experience the Rajasthani sunset while gloriously riding on camels. To be at the place in the evening was very soothing, and it offered perfect food for a family visit. To give the best closure to the day, we enjoyed a cultural program that showcased the traditional Rajasthani music and dance in the desert.

Day 4: A subtle closure

Having had a great time in Jaisalmer, it was now time to go back. In the morning, we stopped for coffee at the grand Suryagarh Hotel and chilled around its magnificent courtyard for a short while — before being dropped at the railway station.
