Pigeon Island is the most popular place for water sports in Trincomalee such as snorkeling and scuba diving. It’s part of the Pigeon Island Marine Sanctuary and was named after the numerous endemic Blue Rock Pigeons that call the island home. What makes this a particularly great diving site is its coral reef and rich marine life. You can expect to see angelfish, butterflyfish and turtles among others. If you plan to spend most of your time diving and snorkeling in Trincomalee, we recommend staying on or near the island. There are hotels located a few kilometers from the park.
