History Of Khonoma Village

In 1879, when a British officer was sent to enforce tax in the village, their troop was amused by the resisting warriors of the Village.
This started the fierce battles between the Angami Naga tribes and the British troops. This led to the British laying siege on the entire village. Four months later, a reluctant peace treaty was signed between both sides in 1880. The Battle of Khonoma was the last battle of Nagaland against the British. After the British took over, Christianity was imposed on the villagers in 1890, converting them in the process.
