    1. Bala Quila

    The ‘quila’ or fort is also known as the Alwar Fort and is perhaps the most famous among Alwar tourist places located some 10km from Alwar railway station. Ironically named ‘bala’ quila or young fort is actually the oldest structure in the city constructed in 1550 A.D by Hasan Khan Mewavati. The fort is 5 km long and 1.5 km wide and takes about 2 hours to cover.

    Located just below the Bala Quila, is the City Palace built by Raja Bakhtayar Singh in 1873. It is a lovely combination of Mughal and Rajput architecture making it a popular place to visit in Alwar, Rajasthan. This imposing structure composed of 15 imposing towers and aided by 51 smaller towers is wonderfully bedecked with murals and mirror work on the walls and ceiling.     This sanctuary is also known as the Sariska Tiger Reserve and is located 36km away from Alwar, making it a popular place to visit near Alwar. The sanctuary is spread across an area of approximately 850 sq. km with a varied topography including grasslands, dry deciduous forests and rocky cliffs. The Kankwari Fort is located inside the reserve and is also a popular destination.

The interiors of the palace are not open to the public as it is still under the Alwar Royal Family.
