The Kite Festival in City Palace Jaipur was kicked off with a holy dip in Galtaji. This ritual is considered sacred among the residents of Jaipur. Afterwards, they prayed to the sun god to bless them with good health, wealth and yield of the crop. Since Makar Sankranti is a government holiday in Jaipur, the shops and the banks remained shut as everyone prepared for the Jaipur Kite festival. This year, the Kite festival in Jaipur was inaugurated at the Jaipur Polo Ground. Despite the prices of the kites being 30 percent higher than last year, the markets in Jaipur observed a boom in their sales. Jaipur Kite festival is celebrated on the 14th of January every year to mark the transition of the sun from Dhanu Rashi (Sagittarius) to Makara Rashi (Capricorn).
