    The Kite Festival in City Palace Jaipur was kicked off with a holy dip in Galtaji. This ritual is considered sacred among the residents of Jaipur. Afterwards, they prayed to the sun god to bless them with good health, wealth and yield of the crop. Since Makar Sankranti is a government holiday in Jaipur, the shops and the banks remained shut as everyone prepared for the Jaipur Kite festival.     Jaipur Kite festival is celebrated on the 14th of January every year to mark the transition of the sun from Dhanu Rashi (Sagittarius) to Makara Rashi (Capricorn). The aforementioned reason makes it an auspicious day. Makar Sankranti is also referred to as Uttarayan because the sun embarks on a northward journey on this day.
