How to Reach Mauritius

Read about the best & quickest routes to save time & money, as suggested by our travelers

By Air

There are only two airports in Mauritius, Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport situated in Plaine Corail on Rodrigues and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Those wondering how to reach Mauritius from Delhi or Mumbai, then we are here to inform that SSR Airport is well connected via domestic and international flights. Emirates, Swiss, China Eastern flights, Air India, etc. are some of the major international airlines with connectivity to these airports.

By Road

To enjoy the road journey, one can reach the SSR Airport and take a bus to their desired destination. Buses available from the airport are 09, 10, and 198. Land transport here includes bus, taxi and cars. The bus network is large in the country, spread across the entire island. There are 2 kinds of buses in Mauritius: standard and express. Express buses are air conditioned buses and have fewer stops on each route. The buses run between 5:30 am and 8 pm. On the countryside, which is less developed, timings are shorter and less reliable. Travelers may have to change a bus in order to reach their destination.

Taxi is also easily available on the island but are more expensive. One can take any of the two buses. Fare of express bus is a bit higher as it is air conditioned and faster than the standard bus.

By Sea

Besides boarding a flight or bus, one can also hop on a cruise to reach Mauritius. Board a cruise to Port Louis from the ports of Mumbai or Chennai, or choose to take a boat ride to Mauritius from Madagascar, and have a luxurious experience. However, the cruise journey from Mumbai and Chennai can take approximately 12 or 13 days to reach the destination.

Lakshay's 6 days trip to Mauritius

Overall the trip was very mediocre. Property was not at all recommendable to VEGITARIAN families. Included breakfast and lunch to the package was not at all worthy. Property is advised for UK and US travelers as there were N no of options for them. Lows: Food - Had to really struggle for good veget
arian food even after paying handsome amount of 1.4 lakhs. Honeymoon freebies - Fruit platter & bottle of house sparkling wine in room on day of arrival: 3 apples + bottle of wine even mush better fruit options were there for breakfast buffet + We had to request the hotel staff twice to do the flower decoration eventually got the decoration done on our 3rd day of stay and after reminding them twice. Service Pack (sightseeing): - Vendor was not very open to any kind of modifications in itinerary. We wanted to change the order like north tour was planned for Monday we wanted to swipe it with Wednesday only but vendor was not open for those modifications at all. - For most of the activities only the entry fees i.e. hardly 6-7% of the actual activities cost was included in the package. - We were not informed that Saturday is a half day for Mauritius and due to this wasted the very first day as most of the places were already closed. first day was complete waste. Personally i would not recommend Craft Holidayz to anyone. Better explore others please.

Trip was well planned by Ms. Neha and all the necessary support provided by her. Hotel was very nice & hotel staff were very friendly. Overall we had a great time in Mauritius and this trip was amazing. But in Mauritius cab timing were very stringent and schedule was fixed, cab driver can not wai
t for extra 10 minutes, so the schedule was a little hectic. There was some miscommunication between Indian & Mauritian agent for tickets of Casela park, issue was resolved in around 2 days. Other things are as per the expectation.

Poonamvshenoy's 7 days trip to Mauritius

We had booked 6 nights package at Outrigger resort. The resort is very good, has a very long stretch of beach which is what we wanted. The rooms are spacious and since we were with 2 kids the Family Ocean View room with seperate room and bunk bed for the kids was very comfortable. We were given che
ck in immediately on reaching as the resort was only 25-30% occupied. This was well appreciated The resort Manager was courteous and called us to discuss our concerns, he truly cares about his customers. The Indian chef Mr Pradeep makes good food and took attempts to make Indian food of our choice. These 2 things we appreciated a great deal. However, the weather was not good in June, we encountered rains in most of the days and could not fully enjoy the site seeing or the resort. Some things which you should keep in mind about Outrigger before you recommend to your clients: - The food schedule is a big let down. Breakfast is buffet, but Indian items only 2 are made eg bhajiyas everyday and 1 more item like poha. Grossly inadequate. With so many Indian clients they should have at least 5 items in the menu everyday. The danish pastries are made well but cakes are very hard. Didn't enjoy it. For dinner, first of all they have buffet only for 3-4 days of the week and the rest of the days it's a la carte where you get to choose 1 each starter, main course and desert. The continental options are many but Indian options are very few, only 3 main course items in whole menu. Grossly inadequate. They should have some variety of items to choose from. First few days we struggled to eat at dinner. The Indian chef was kind enough to offer to make some items if you request but why should it come to this. With many Indian tourists the resort should have buffet dinner like other 5 star hotels or have variety of Indian items in the menu. The food was the worst experience. So for Indians, I wouldnt recommend this resort from a good perspective. - The teens activity centre which had pool table, air hockey, fuse ball etc was not operating when we arrived and the condition remained like that for 4-5 days. After we complained, they management made some efforts to get it repaired but it was no use to us as it was our last day at the resort. This was not expected of a 5 star resort. - All 3 days of site seeing, we spent 2 hours only travelling back and forth to pick up other families from their hotels. We were first to be picked up and last to be dropped. The travel to places of site seeing were additional time. This really tired us and we got fed up of travel especially with kids. - The North tour which took almost the whole day was a waste of time. Other than the Citadel Fort, the rest of the places were just time pass. You should get the same removed from itenary. People go all the way to spend time in the resort and enjoy, not just to pass time on places not worth visiting - The South tour and the Ile Aux Cerfs island was worth visiting, though we got only 45 mins at the island.....planning was not done very well.

Umesh's 4 days trip to Mauritius

The experience was amazing but as a traveller I would suggest people to go through the whole itinerary. The hotel was fabulous and room was amazing but one should have the option to chose room. The service was amazing but as a traveller make sure you know that the hotel will provide 1 water bottle
per day per room. If you are aware of the itinerary make sure you plan your leisure day accordingly otherwise you will end up spending time at the hotel itself. Everything was awesome.
