Best Time To Visit Russia
The best time to visit Russia is from May to September, when the weather is mild and ideal for sightseeing. June offers the magical White Nights in St. Petersburg, while July and August are warm and lively, though popular spots can be crowded. September brings cooler temperatures and fewer tourists, with beautiful autumn scenery. Winter is great for snow sports and cultural experiences, but it comes with extreme cold and limited daylight.

How To Reach Russia
By Air: Flying is the fastest and best way to reach Russia. Moscow's Domodedovo International Airport is the busiest airport in Russia. From here, you can hop on a bus or hire a cab to take you to the city centre. The other two major airports in Moscow are Sheremetyevo International Airport and Vnukovo International Airport.
By Road: Russia has multiple entry points from neighbouring countries such as Belarus, China, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Latvia, and Norway. If you plan on driving, make sure all your paperwork is in order.
By Sea: Russia enjoys direct connectivity by boat with countries like Turkey, Finland, Estonia, Denmark, Japan, and South Korea. On the Russian side, Vladivostok, St. Petersburg and Moscow are the major maritime centres that receive international ferries.
Getting Around in Russia
By Train: The Trans-Siberian Railway is one of the longest railway lines in the world. Getting around Russia by train is highly convenient, and they also operate all year long. It runs between Moscow and Vladivostok and is a convenient method of travel within Russia.
By Bus: While a bus journey can get tiring due to long distances, they often connect to out-of-the-way and remote villages. The long-distance bus services are also more economical than trains.
By Car: Renting a car is another easy and reliable option for travelling within Russia. Russia has an excellent road network. However, driving yourself around Russia could get cumbersome as you go deeper into the interiors and remote areas. It is also to be kept in mind that navigation doesn't work in all places, so it is advised to carry a map.
Places To Visit in Russia
Lake Baikal: Lying in the southeastern Siberian region of Russia, Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater lake in the world. Apart from the beautiful scenery, you can take part in plenty of activities at Lake Baikal that include wildlife tours, hiking, and boating.
Altay: A mountainous region ideal for hiking, rafting, and nature tourism; best visited in summer. Limited infrastructure, so guided tours are recommended.
The Russian Tundra: A remote, treeless Arctic region offering unique wildlife and Northern Lights; accessible via tours from Murmansk or Nenets.
Sochi: A Black Sea resort city known for beaches in summer and ski resorts in winter. Good infrastructure and visa-free entry for cruise passengers.
Kizhi Island: Home to a UNESCO-listed wooden church ensemble; accessible by hydrofoil from Petrozavodsk in summer. Guided visits are recommended.
Essential Information for Tourists
Visa: Most travellers need a visa; apply well in advance and have an invitation letter (often provided by hotels or tour operators).
Registration: Foreigners must register their stay within 7 days of arrival; hotels usually handle this.
Currency: The Russian Ruble (RUB) is the official currency; carry some cash, especially in remote areas.
Language: English is limited outside major cities—learning basic Russian phrases or using a translation app is helpful.
Transport: Trains are reliable for long distances; use Yandex Taxi or Yandex Maps for local travel.
Weather: Winters are harsh—pack warm layers; summers vary by region, so check forecasts.
Internet: SIM cards with data are cheap and available at airports or kiosks—bring your passport to buy one.
Cultural Norms: Dress modestly in churches and be polite—Russians may seem reserved but are usually helpful.
