Goa or Andaman: Find Your Ideal Honeymoon Destination
Choosing Goa or Andaman for your honeymoon comes down to one trade-off: Goa is the cheaper, easier, livelier escape — short 1–2 hour flights from most metros, beach shacks, casinos and nightlife, with couple-friendly packages from roughly ₹15,000–30,000 for 3–4 nights. Andaman is the quieter, more romantic island getaway — white-sand beaches, the clearest water in India and world-class scuba, but you’ll fly via Chennai or Kolkata, need 5–6 nights, and spend closer to ₹35,000–80,000 a couple. Pick Goa for accessibility, value and buzz; pick Andaman for seclusion, snorkelling and a true island honeymoon. The full head-to-head — with a clear verdict — is below.

Pick Goa if… / Pick Andaman if…

Most couples agonise over this, but the decision is usually clear once you weigh four things: budget, how far you want to travel, the kind of beach you want, and whether you want nightlife or near-total seclusion.
Choose Goa for your honeymoon if…
- you want to keep the budget tight — Goa is cheaper to reach and to stay in.
- you have a short window — 3–4 nights is enough for a relaxed Goa honeymoon.
- you fly from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune or Hyderabad — direct flights are short (about 1–1.5 hours) and frequent.
- you want nightlife — beach shacks, clubs and the floating casinos on the Mandovi are unique to Goa.
- you like mixing beach time with heritage, cafés, flea markets and Goan-Portuguese food.
Choose Andaman for your honeymoon if…
- you want pristine, uncrowded white-sand beaches and the clearest water in India.
- one of you wants to scuba dive or snorkel — Andaman’s reefs are far better than Goa’s.
- you want privacy and a genuine “islands” feeling, away from the crowds.
- you have 5–6 nights and a slightly bigger budget for flights and inter-island ferries.
- a partial digital detox sounds romantic rather than stressful — phone signal is patchy on the islands.
Still torn? Couples who can’t decide on the destination but know they want an island often shortlist a third option too — see our Maldives vs Andaman comparison and Kerala vs Andaman guide.
Cost comparison: which is cheaper, Goa or Andaman?

Goa is the cheaper honeymoon — on both the trip itself and the cost of getting there. Andaman carries an “island premium”: flights are longer and pricier, and you add inter-island ferry fares on top. Our writers consistently find a comparable Andaman honeymoon runs roughly 1.5–2× a Goa one for the same comfort level. The bands below are indicative ranges for two people, excluding shopping and big-ticket extras.
| What | Goa (per couple) | Andaman (per couple) |
| Budget honeymoon (3–4N Goa / 5–6N Andaman, land only) | ₹15,000–30,000 | ₹30,000–55,000 |
| Mid-range with better resorts | ₹30,000–55,000 | ₹55,000–90,000 |
| Return flights (typical metro) | ₹6,000–16,000 | ₹16,000–40,000 |
| Inter-island ferries (couple) | Not needed | ₹3,000–7,000 |
| Signature splurge | Sunset Mandovi cruise / casino | Scuba dive + sea walk (~₹3,500–6,400 pp) |

Getting there: Goa is far easier to reach

Goa has two airports — Dabolim (GOI) in the south and the new Manohar International Airport at Mopa (GOX, opened January 2023) in the north — plus Konkan Railway stations at Madgaon and Thivim and good road links. Most metros have direct flights, and it’s barely over an hour from Mumbai or Bengaluru.
Andaman has one airport — Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) at Port Blair (officially Sri Vijaya Puram since September 2024). Direct flights run mainly from Chennai (about 2h15m) and Kolkata (about 2h30m); from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru or Hyderabad you usually connect through one of those two. There’s no rail or road from the mainland — and no passport or RAP needed for Indian citizens (the Restricted Area Permit was lifted for Indians in 2018; it’s a domestic trip).
| Goa | Andaman | |
| Airports | Dabolim (GOI) + Mopa/Manohar (GOX) | Veer Savarkar Intl (IXZ), Port Blair |
| Direct flights | Most metros; ~1–2.5 hrs | Chennai ~2h15m, Kolkata ~2h30m; others via these |
| Train | Konkan Railway (Madgaon, Thivim) | None |
| Road from mainland | Yes (NH connections) | None — air only |
| Getting around | Self-drive scooter/cab | Cabs + ferries between islands |
Between the islands, fast catamarans (Makruzz, Nautika) cover Port Blair to Havelock in about 90 minutes; the government GreenOcean ferry takes roughly 2–2.25 hours. Book ferries in advance in peak season. Full routing is in our how to reach Andaman guide.
Best time to visit for a honeymoon

Both destinations share a similar winter sweet spot, but Andaman’s season runs a little longer. Goa is best from October to April (peak November–February); the June–September monsoon is lush and cheap but wet, with rough seas. Andaman is best from October to May, with the calmest, clearest water for diving from December to April and bioluminescence most visible November–February.
| Period | Goa | Andaman |
| Oct–Feb | Peak season, perfect weather, lively, priciest | Peak; calm seas, ideal for diving & beaches |
| Mar–Apr | Warm, fewer crowds, good value | Warm but excellent; great underwater visibility |
| May | Hot & humid, pre-monsoon | Last good window before monsoon; hot |
| Jun–Sep | Monsoon — green, cheap, wet, rough sea | Monsoon — rain, some ferries disrupted |
Beaches and water: golden & lively vs white & clear

Goa
Goa’s beaches are golden-sand and social. North Goa — Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator, Candolim — is where the shacks, water sports and nightlife cluster, so it’s busier. South Goa — Palolem, Colva, Agonda, Benaulim, Cavelossim — is calmer, cleaner and better suited to a relaxed honeymoon. Quieter pockets like Mandrem, Querim and Cola let you escape the crowds even in peak season.
Andaman
Andaman’s beaches are the visual win — powder-white sand and turquoise, glass-clear water. Radhanagar Beach on Swaraj Dweep (Havelock) was rated Asia’s best beach by TIME in 2004 and is still the headline. Add Kala Pathar and Elephant Beach on Havelock, Bharatpur and Laxmanpur on Shaheed Dweep (Neil), and the disappearing sandbar at Ross & Smith. There’s far less development, so the trade-off is fewer shacks and restaurants — and that’s exactly the point for couples wanting seclusion.
Which part of Goa — and which Andaman islands — should couples pick?

Half the “Goa or Andaman” decision is really about which corner of each you choose. Getting this right matters more than the destination itself.
North Goa or South Goa for a honeymoon?
North Goa (Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Candolim) is the lively half — shacks, water sports, flea markets and nightlife, but busier and noisier. South Goa (Palolem, Agonda, Benaulim, Cavelossim) is the romantic half — quieter, cleaner beaches and the luxury resorts, which is why most honeymooners base in the south and day-trip north for one night out. If you want both, split your nights: two in the south to unwind, one or two in the north for the buzz.
Which Andaman islands for a honeymoon?
A first Andaman honeymoon is best split across two or three islands rather than one base:
- Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram) — your arrival point; 1 night for the Cellular Jail Light & Sound show, Corbyn’s Cove and North Bay water sports.
- Swaraj Dweep (Havelock) — the honeymoon heart; 2–3 nights for Radhanagar Beach, Elephant Beach snorkelling and scuba. Most couples spend the bulk of the trip here.
- Shaheed Dweep (Neil) — the quietest; 1 night for Bharatpur and Laxmanpur beaches and the natural rock formations.
A classic 5–6 night route is Port Blair → Havelock → Neil → Port Blair. More island-by-island detail is in our Andaman honeymoon guide.
Romantic things to do: nightlife vs underwater

In Goa
- Sunset cruise on the Mandovi River and dinner at a candle-lit beach shack.
- A night at the floating casinos off Panaji — unique to Goa.
- Water sports at North Goa beaches: parasailing, jet-ski, banana boat.
- Day trips to Dudhsagar Falls, Fort Aguada, the Basilica of Bom Jesus and the Saturday night market.
In Andaman
The activities here are mostly in or under the water, and they’re the reason most couples choose Andaman:
- Scuba diving and snorkelling off Havelock and North Bay — intro dives reach 10–12 m and need no licence (about ₹3,500–6,400 per person).
- India’s first sea walk at North Bay (around ₹3,500), plus glass-bottom boat rides.
- Kayaking through the bioluminescent waters near Havelock on a new-moon night (best November–February).
- The Cellular Jail Light & Sound show in Port Blair (₹300 adult / ₹150 child; closed Mondays and public holidays).
Where to stay

Goa
For buzz, base in North Goa — The Park Calangute or Lemon Tree Amarante in Candolim keep you close to the action. For privacy and luxury, head south to Taj Exotica in Benaulim or The Leela in Cavelossim. Budget-friendly couple stays are easy to find in both halves.
Andaman
Spread your nights across two or three islands. On Swaraj Dweep (Havelock), couples settle into Barefoot at Havelock, Munjoh Ocean Resort, SeaShell or Silver Sand. Port Blair has Sinclairs Bayview, and on Shaheed Dweep (Neil) there’s Tango Beach and Pearl Park. Island inventory shifts with the season, so confirm a property’s operating status and rates when you book.
How many days do you need?

Goa rewards a short trip — 3 to 4 nights is plenty to split between a couple of beaches, one heritage day and the nightlife. Andaman needs more time — budget 5 to 6 nights minimum, because a chunk of each trip goes to flying via Chennai/Kolkata and ferrying between Port Blair, Havelock and Neil. Trying to “do” Andaman in 3 nights means spending most of it in transit. If your leave is tight, that alone can decide it for Goa.
How to choose between Goa and Andaman for your honeymoon

A quick decision framework our writers use with couples:
- Fix the budget. Set the budget per couple first. Under about ₹40,000 all-in for a short trip points to Goa.
- Count your nights. 4 nights or fewer favours Goa; 5–6 nights makes Andaman worth the travel time.
- Check your departure city. From Mumbai/Bengaluru/Pune, Goa is a quick hop; from Chennai/Kolkata, Andaman’s flights are short and direct too.
- Pick your vibe. Want nightlife, casinos and cafés? Goa. Want seclusion and the clearest water? Andaman.
- Weight the water. If scuba or snorkelling is non-negotiable, Andaman wins outright.
- Book ahead. Match the shortlist to a customisable couple package and lock dates early for peak season.

Mistakes couples make when choosing

- Too little time for Andaman. Picking Andaman for a 3-night trip. You’ll lose most of it to flights and ferries — under 5 nights, choose Goa instead.
- Wrong half of Goa. Booking only North Goa for a honeymoon. It’s the party half; base in South Goa for romance and visit the north for a night.
- Underestimating Andaman logistics. Andaman’s islands have patchy mobile data and few ATMs outside Port Blair — carry cash and download maps offline before you ferry out.
- Leaving booking too late. Both destinations sell out over Diwali, Christmas–New Year and long weekends. Book flights and resorts 1–2 months ahead for peak season.
- Travelling in monsoon. Goa’s monsoon (Jun–Sep) means rough seas and shut shacks; Andaman’s can disrupt ferries. Honeymoon in the October–April window at either.
The verdict

If we had to call it: Goa is the better all-round honeymoon for most couples — it’s cheaper, far easier to reach, works on a long weekend, and balances beaches with nightlife and food. Choose Andaman when seclusion and the underwater experience matter more than convenience or cost — for a quiet, screen-free, white-sand island honeymoon, nothing in India quite matches it. There’s no wrong answer here; there’s only the answer that fits your budget, your dates and the kind of couple you are.
Planning your honeymoon
In short: Goa wins on cost, convenience and nightlife; Andaman wins on beaches, seclusion and the underwater experience. Frequently Asked Questions About Goa or Andaman For Honeymoon
Both are excellent, but they suit different couples. Goa is better for a lively, budget-friendly, easy-to-reach honeymoon with nightlife and short flights, while Andaman is better for a secluded, scenic island honeymoon with pristine white beaches and world-class scuba. Pick Goa for value and buzz; pick Andaman for privacy and the underwater experience.
Goa is cheaper. Flights are shorter and more frequent, stays are more affordable, and there are no inter-island ferries to pay for. A comparable Andaman honeymoon typically costs about 1.5–2 times a Goa one, mainly because of pricier flights and the island premium.
Yes. Goa is one of India's top honeymoon destinations — easy to reach, affordable, and a great mix of relaxed beaches, water sports, nightlife and Goan-Portuguese heritage. South Goa suits couples wanting quiet and luxury; North Goa suits those who want shacks, parties and casinos.
Andaman costs more than Goa but isn't out of reach. Budget couple trips for 5–6 nights start from roughly ₹30,000–55,000 land-only, plus flights of about ₹16,000–40,000 a couple. TravelTriangle lists customisable Andaman honeymoon packages with current couple pricing.
3–4 nights is enough for Goa; you can cover a couple of beaches, one heritage day and the nightlife. Andaman needs 5–6 nights minimum because flying via Chennai or Kolkata and ferrying between Port Blair, Havelock and Neil eats into your time.
Andaman has more beautiful beaches — white sand and clear turquoise water, headlined by Radhanagar on Havelock (rated Asia's best beach by TIME in 2004). Goa's golden-sand beaches are livelier and more developed, which some couples prefer for the shacks and energy.
Andaman, clearly. Its reefs around Havelock and North Bay offer some of India's best visibility, and intro dives (10–12 m, no licence) cost about ₹3,500–6,400 per person. Goa has diving too, but the visibility and marine life don't compare.
Goa, by a wide margin. Beach shacks, clubs and the floating casinos on the Mandovi River make Goa India's nightlife capital. Andaman is quiet after dark — peaceful for couples who want calm, limiting for those who want to party.
No. Andaman and Nicobar is Indian territory, so Indian citizens need no passport, and the Restricted Area Permit (RAP) was lifted for Indians in 2018. Just carry a valid government photo ID. Goa, of course, needs no permit either.
Goa is best October–April (peak November–February); Andaman is best October–May, with the calmest, clearest water for diving from December to April. Avoid the June–September monsoon at both for a honeymoon, though it brings lush scenery and lower prices.
Both are gorgeous island honeymoons. Choose Maldives for an international, ultra-luxe overwater-villa trip; choose Andaman for a domestic island escape that's far cheaper and needs no passport. We break this down fully in our Maldives vs Andaman comparison.
It's possible but not ideal — they're on opposite coasts and Andaman alone needs 5–6 nights, so combining both means a long, expensive trip of 10+ nights. Most couples pick one and do it properly. If you want a two-destination honeymoon, pairing Andaman with Chennai or Kerala is smoother — see our Kerala vs Andaman guide.
