About Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur
The tallest skyscrapers in the world from 1998 to 2004, the Petronas Twin Towers dominate the Kuala Lumpur skyline and have become a part of the local culture and national identity. The Petronas Towers consists of two towers named as tower 1 and tower 2. Tower 1 is fully occupied by Petronas and its subsidiaries, and Tower 2 has been made available to various companies for office space on lease including Microsoft, Reuters, Al Jazeera English, Boeing, IBM, TCS and many more. The 451.9 m towers have been depicted and adopted in various pop culture movies and games depicting its importance and fame throughout the world.
The towers were designed by Cesar Pelli and took 3 years to complete with the foundation work itself taking 12 months to complete. The Petronas Towers are built in the world’s deepest foundations, and the structural design is that of a tube in a tube. The towers began construction on April 1, 1994, and completed with 88 floors on March 1, 1996. The building is designed to resemble motifs of Islamic art in its steel and glass façade with the building itself made largely from reinforced concrete.
The towers feature a multitude of attractions. The upmarket retail center of Suria KLCC is known for expensive foreign goods and branded labels. The retail center includes an aquarium and a science center all located at the feet of the Petronas Towers. There is also the KLCC Park and the sky bridge which provides a breathtaking view of both the skyscrapers and the city skyline.
