Manali to Leh Bike Trip Package (via Srinagar): Overview
This is the full Manali to Leh bike trip, the 11-day circuit that starts in Manali, climbs the Ladakh plateau, and finishes in Srinagar via Sonmarg. It is the same route riders mean when they search for a leh ladakh bike trip from manali, run end to end so you cover Ladakh and a slice of Kashmir in one go. Ladakh is one of the best places to ride in India, and it is best explored on two wheels, where you can navigate the terrain and get an off-road experience you cannot get from a car window.
The itinerary is planned so you are not just crossing passes, you are stopping at the places most trips skip. You get a leisure day in Leh to catch your breath or explore the markets, lake-side camping at Pangong and Tso Moriri, a night in a Hanle homestay under one of the darkest skies in the country, and a finish on Dal Lake in Srinagar. You do not haul your own bike to Manali, and you do not worry about a mid-trip breakdown: a mechanic and a backup van ride with the group. Bring your friends and make it the trip you have been putting off.
Prefer to run it the other way? See our reverse-route option, the Srinagar to Leh bike trip, or browse all our Ladakh bike tour packages to compare durations and start points.
11-Day Itinerary: Manali to Leh to Srinagar
Day 1: Arrive in Manali
Rest up after you reach Manali, then head out to explore the Mall Road and the market. Take a short test ride on the bike issued to you so it feels familiar before the big days. Dinner and an overnight stay at your Manali hotel, ready to start the Manali to Leh route in the morning.
Day 2: Manali to Sarchu via the Atal Tunnel and Baralacha La
After breakfast, check out and ride to Jispa through the Atal Tunnel, then push on to Sarchu across Baralacha La (16,040 ft). This is your first taste of real high-altitude riding. Reach camp at Sarchu, settle in, and enjoy dinner under a sky full of stars.
Day 3: Sarchu to Tso Moriri via Gata Loops and the Tso Kar basin
Today is one of the standout riding days. Soon after Sarchu you take on the Gata Loops, the famous set of 21 hairpin bends that climb the escarpment, followed by Nakee La and Lachulung La. Past Pang, where the main Leh highway peels off over Tanglang La (17,480 ft), your route turns toward the wide Tso Kar basin and on to Tso Moriri. Check in at your tent or cottage at Korzok village on the lakeshore, and enjoy the rare flora and fauna and the quiet before dinner.
Day 4: Tso Moriri to Hanle via Nurpa
After breakfast, ride to Hanle via Nurpa across some of the most remote terrain on the whole trip. Hanle sits far off the usual tourist track and is home to one of the highest observatories in the world, which is why its night sky is so dark and so full of stars. Stay at a local guest house or homestay, have dinner, and spend the evening looking up.
Day 5: Hanle to Pangong via Chushul and Tsaga La
After breakfast, ride to Pangong along the remote southern approach through Chushul and Tsaga La, rather than the busier Chang La road most trips use. That is a deliberate choice: it keeps you on quieter roads and closer to the border villages. Reach your lakeside camp at Pangong, and end the day with dinner and a starry night beside the water.
Day 6: Pangong to Nubra Valley (Turtuk option and the Hunder camel safari)
After a Pangong sunrise, ride to Nubra Valley through the Shyok Valley. Reach Sumur or Hunder by afternoon and explore the little villages and the Diskit Monastery, with its giant Maitreya Buddha statue. Ride a Bactrian double-humped camel across the Hunder sand dunes, a Nubra experience you will not find anywhere else in India. Riders with time to spare can extend to Turtuk, the northernmost village near the border, for a look at Balti culture. Dinner, campfire and an overnight stay in Nubra.
Day 7: Nubra to Leh via Khardung La
After breakfast, ride to Leh over Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes in the world at around 17,580 ft. Take in the views on the climb, then drop into Leh and check in at your hotel. Dinner and an overnight stay in town.
Day 8: Leh Leisure Day
A full day at leisure in Leh. Spend it however you like: wander the market for souvenirs, visit the monasteries and Leh Palace, or simply rest and let your body adjust to the altitude. Your bikes go in for maintenance and a service today and are handed back to you by evening, so they are trip-ready for the run to Srinagar. Dinner and an overnight stay in Leh.
Day 9: Leh to Kargil via Alchi and Magnetic Hill
After breakfast, ride towards Kargil. On the way, stop at the 11th-century Alchi Monastery for its old murals, pass the gravity-defying Magnetic Hill, and see the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. Reach Kargil, check in, and enjoy dinner.
Day 10: Kargil to Sonmarg over Zoji La
After breakfast, ride to Sonmarg via Dras, one of the coldest inhabited places on earth, then cross Zoji La, the high pass that drops you from the bare Ladakh plateau into the green Kashmir valley. The change of scenery in a single day is one of the trip's best moments. Check in at Sonmarg for the night.
Day 11: Sonmarg to Srinagar and Departure
After a final mountain breakfast, check out and transfer to Srinagar airport for your flight home. If your flight is later in the day, a shikara ride on Dal Lake is the classic Kashmir sign-off before you leave. You head back with a memory card full of passes, lakes and the whole Ladakh plateau behind you.

Best Time for the Manali to Leh Bike Trip
The riding season runs from about mid-June to late September, and it is set by the passes, not the weather in the valleys. Baralacha La and Zoji La usually clear of snow by mid-June, which is when the route opens end to end. Ride outside this window and you risk a closed pass and a broken circuit.
July and August are the warmest months and the most popular, though snowmelt can make a few water crossings higher. September is the rider's favourite: the skies are clearest, the crowds have thinned, and the light on the passes is at its best, but the nights get properly cold, so pack for near-freezing camps. Pass-opening dates shift a little every year with the snowfall.

How to Reach: Getting to Manali and Home from Srinagar
Getting to Manali (the start)
Most riders take an overnight Volvo bus from Delhi to Manali, roughly 530 km and 12 to 14 hours. The nearest airport is Bhuntar (Kullu), about 50 km from Manali, with limited flights. A common alternative is to fly into Chandigarh (about 310 km away) and drive up. Reach Manali a day before Day 1 so you are rested and acclimatised before the climb begins.
Getting home from Srinagar (the finish)
The trip ends with a transfer to Srinagar airport (SXR) on Day 11. Srinagar has direct flights to Delhi (about 1 hour 20 minutes) and onward connections to the other metros. Book a same-day flight only if it departs in the afternoon, so a morning delay at Zoji La the day before does not cost you the ticket.
Bikes, Permits and Acclimatisation
The bike
You ride a 500cc motorcycle, the Royal Enfield class of machine built for exactly this terrain. Fuel is covered as per the itinerary, and a mechanic plus a luggage backup van ride with the group, so a puncture or a service does not end anyone's day. A reflective jacket is provided. Prefer your own machine? The own-bike option is Rs 27,999, and your bike is serviced mid-trip in Leh with the rest of the fleet.
Permits
The Inner Line Permit needed for Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri and Hanle is arranged for you and included in the package. Carry the original and a few photocopies of a government photo ID (Aadhaar or passport) because you will show them at checkpoints along the way. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit instead of the Inner Line Permit, so flag your nationality when you book.
Altitude and acclimatisation
You will spend most of the trip above 10,000 ft and cross passes over 17,000 ft, so acute mountain sickness (AMS) is a real risk if you rush the gain. The itinerary is paced to help: a leisure and rest day in Leh, gradual climbs rather than one big jump, and oxygen support carried with the group. Drink plenty of water, skip alcohol on the high nights, and tell your tour-leader early if you feel a headache or nausea coming on. Do not tough it out.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
A booking page should be clear about what happens if plans change, so here is the frame. Your exact cancellation tiers are confirmed on your booking voucher and a graded refund applies by how many days before departure you cancel, with less notice meaning a smaller refund. The Rs 5,000-per-bike security deposit is separate: it is collected against damage and refunded after the ride once the bike is returned in order. Weather and roadblocks are part of Himalayan riding, and any extra cost from a forced itinerary change (a closed pass, a grounded flight) is not covered, so travel insurance is worth having.
Why This Route Goes Deeper Than the Rest
Plenty of operators run Manali to Leh. Far fewer take you where this one does. Most 7 or 8-day trips turn around at Leh or Pangong and head straight back. This 11-day circuit keeps going into the parts of Ladakh that usually get left off the map.
• Hanle, with its high-altitude observatory and some of the darkest night skies in India, on a homestay night rather than a drive-through.
• Tso Moriri and Korzok village, the remote southern lake most Manali-to-Leh trips never reach.
• The quiet Chushul and Tsaga La approach to Pangong instead of the crowded Chang La road.
• Alchi Monastery and its 11th-century murals on the ride out to Kargil.
• A genuine finish in Srinagar via Sonmarg and Zoji La, so you end in Kashmir, not back where you started.
Add the full-stack listing (transparent pricing, named stays, itemised inclusions) and a review base of 12,372 travellers, and you get a trip that sells on depth and trust, not on the lowest price hook.
Where You'll Stay
Stays are on a twin or triple-sharing basis, a mix of hotels, camps and homestays chosen for location over luxury (at Pangong, Tso Moriri and Hanle, a simple camp or homestay by the water beats a hotel an hour away). Representative properties on this route:
• Manali: Himanshu Resort.
• Sarchu: Goldrop Camps.
• Tso Moriri: Tsomoriri Lake View Hotel, Korzok village.
• Hanle: Hanley House homestay.
• Pangong: Himalayan Retreat, Spangmik.
• Nubra: Nubra Organic Retreat, Hunder.
• Leh (2 nights): Hotel City Palace.
• Kargil: Royal Gasho Hotel.
• Sonmarg: Hotel Glacier Heights.
What Our Riders and Our Desk Say
"Start early out of Sarchu, take the Gata Loops before the afternoon wind picks up, and save the Tso Moriri leg for a clear morning." It is the kind of ground-truth only someone who has run the route in season can tell you.
The pass sequencing and timings on this page are checked by our Ladakh desk against the current Manali to Leh highway status, because a route that ignores when Zoji La and Baralacha La actually open is a route that strands you.
