How to choose the right Shimla Manali package
• By who is travelling: couples get better value on a Manali honeymoon package, while parents and larger groups should start with the Himachal family packages.
• By budget: value trips sit around Rs 8,200 to Rs 12,000, mid-range 3-4 star trips around Rs 12,000 to Rs 18,000, and premium 4-5 star stays like Wildflower Hall from about Rs 23,000.
• By duration: 4N/5D covers Shimla plus a taste of Manali; 5N/6D is the sweet spot for both towns with Solang and Kufri; 6N/7D adds Rohtang, the Atal Tunnel and a Kullu-valley day.
• By season and origin: snow lovers travel December to February; for the wider Himachal circuit or a different base, compare all Himachal tour packages, or start from the Shimla and Manali hubs.
10 Best Places to Visit on a Shimla Manali Tour
These ten sights anchor most Shimla Manali itineraries. Distances are from the respective town centre.
1. Jakhoo Hills
Jakhoo Hills is one of the highest peaks in Shimla, at roughly 8,000 feet and about 1.5 km from the centre. A Hanuman temple sits at the top, reached by a short trek or the ropeway, and the walk up is a favourite with early risers for the panorama. Open through the day; get there for the views over Summer Hill, Scandal Point and the Shimla State Museum nearby.
2. Summer Hill
Summer Hill is a green township about 5.6 km from Shimla, wrapped in deodar and known for its sunrise and sunset viewpoints. It is an easy spot for a nature walk or a short trek, and it links up with Chadwick Falls and the Himalayan Bird Park close by. Reachable by taxi, cab, bus or jeep, open all day.
3. Annandale
Annandale, about 3.1 km from Shimla, is a flat meadow ringed by pines that now holds an Indian Army Museum, a golf club and a cactus museum. The Army Museum runs 10 am to 2 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm. It is a calm, open stop between the busier sights, easy to reach by taxi, auto, bus or cab.
4. Museum of Himachal Culture and Folk Art
This Manali museum, about 2.4 km from the centre and open 8 am to 8 pm, gathers the region's handicrafts, traditional dress, instruments, wooden masks and household objects under one roof. It is a quick, low-effort way to read the culture before you head out to the temples and valleys. Hadimba Temple, Solang Valley and Vashisht Baths are all close.
5. Hadimba Temple
Hadimba Temple, about 2.2 km from Manali, is a cedar-and-stone pagoda set among tall deodars and one of the town's most photographed spots. Built in 1553, it draws pilgrims and photographers alike, with yak rides and a quiet forest clearing around it. Open 8 am to 6 pm; the Mall Road and Manu Temple are a short drive away.
6. Vashisht Hot Water Springs
In Vashisht village, about 3.8 km from Manali, natural sulphur springs run warm year round and are believed to ease aching muscles. A dip here is the classic thing to do after a cold day out, and the Vashisht Temple and Jogini Falls are right beside it. Open 7 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 9 pm.
7. Shimla Water Catchment Wildlife Sanctuary
This forested reserve about 6.9 km from Shimla protects the city's water supply and threads several quiet hiking trails through deodar woods. Birdlife here is unusually rich and the crowds thin out fast, so it suits an unhurried half-day. Open 10 am to 4 pm; best in summer when the trails are dry.
8. Viceregal Lodge and Botanical Gardens
Also called Rashtrapati Niwas, the Viceregal Lodge on Observatory Hill, about 3.3 km from Shimla, was the British Viceroy's summer residence and still holds photographs and articles from that era. The stone architecture is worth the visit on its own, and the manicured gardens outside are a good place to slow down. Open 10:20 am to 5 pm; Christ Church and Mall Road are close.
9. Van Vihar National Park
Right on Manali's Mall Road, about 1.7 km from the centre, Van Vihar is a small deodar-shaded park with walkways, benches and an evening boat ride on its pond. It is the easy, family-friendly break in a Manali day, ideal for a picnic or a slow stroll. Open 8 am to 7 pm.
10. Himalayan Nyingmapa Tibetan Buddhist Monastery
This working Manali monastery, barely 240 m from the centre and open 6 am to 7 pm, is a calm meditation centre with cultural exhibits and authentic Tibetan souvenirs. Its two-storey Buddha statue, built in 1957, is the centrepiece. It pairs naturally with the Hadimba and Manu temples nearby.
Beyond these ten, most Shimla Manali itineraries fold in Solang Valley and Kufri for adventure, Rohtang Pass (subject to permit and season) and the Atal Tunnel on the Manali side, and a Kullu-valley day taking in Naggar Castle and the Roerich Art Gallery. Mall Road in both towns is the evening hub for food and shopping.
Things to Do on a Shimla Manali Tour
Both towns pack a lot into a short trip, from temple walks to genuine adventure. The bookable activities most travellers add are:
• Paragliding at Solang Valley, the signature Manali thrill, run seasonally when winds allow.
• Zorbing and snow-scooter or snow-bike rides at Solang, the busiest activity zone near Manali.
• Skiing and ice skating at Kufri and Solang in the December to February snow months.
• The Solang ropeway (cable car) for valley views without the climb.
• River rafting on the Beas near Kullu, plus zip-lining and horse riding at Solang.
• Slow options too: cycling in the Shimla Water Catchment sanctuary, and heritage walks past Shimla's Victorian buildings.
Best Time to Visit Shimla and Manali
Summer (March to June)
The most popular window. Days are cool and pleasant, ideal for sightseeing, paragliding, hiking and camping, and it lines up with Holi, Baisakhi and the Sipi Fair.
Winter (October to February)
Come for snow. October and November are quieter and crisp, while December to February bring skiing, ice skating and snowboarding, plus the Ice-Skating Carnival and a festive Christmas season in Shimla.
Monsoon (July to September)
Heavy to moderate rain makes sightseeing harder and raises the landslide risk, so it is the least recommended time to travel.

How to Reach Shimla and Manali
By air
The nearest airport to Manali is Bhuntar (Kullu-Manali), about 50 km away, with flights from Delhi, Chandigarh and Pathankot; hire a cab from there to your hotel. For Shimla, fly into Shimla (Jubbarhatti) Airport, about 23 km from town. Many travellers instead fly into Chandigarh, which has far more flights, and drive up from there.
By road, bus and Volvo
Shimla and Manali are well connected to Delhi, Ambala and Chandigarh by state and private buses, including overnight Volvo coaches that reach Manali in roughly 12 to 14 hours. By car from Delhi it is about 540 km to Manali on NH 3, a 12 to 14 hour drive with photo-stops at Pandoh Dam and Sundar Nagar Lake along the Beas. On the Manali side the Atal Tunnel (9.02 km, opened October 2020) has cut the run towards Rohtang and Lahaul to minutes.
By train
For Shimla, reach Kalka station and take the heritage Kalka-Shimla toy train (96 km, about 6 hours) or a cab up. For Manali, which has no railhead, the nearest major stations are Chandigarh (about 310 km) and Pathankot (about 290 km), from where you continue by road.
What to Pack for Shimla and Manali
Pack for the season and the altitude, not for generic hill weather:
• Layers year round: a warm jacket and thermals for December to February, light woollens even in summer evenings.
• Sturdy non-slip shoes for Mall Road slopes, temple treks and snow.
• Sunscreen and sunglasses; hill sun is strong, and stronger on snow.
• A power bank and offline maps, since network can drop on the Rohtang and Atal Tunnel stretch.
• Cash for permit counters, ropeways and Solang activities, plus any ID needed for the Rohtang permit.

FAQs About Shimla-Manali Tour Packages
How much does a Shimla Manali tour package cost?
Prices start from around Rs 8,200 per person on twin sharing and depend on group size, hotel category and trip length. As a guide, a 4 nights / 5 days trip works out to roughly Rs 9,000 per person, while a longer 6 nights / 7 days trip can run to about Rs 34,000 for a premium itinerary. Flights and the Rohtang permit are usually extra.
Which month is best for a Shimla Manali tour?
March to June is the most popular window, with temperatures between about 15C and 30C and pleasant weather for sightseeing and adventure. For snow, travel December to February. Avoid July to September, when monsoon rain makes the roads slower and raises the landslide risk.
What are the best Shimla Manali tour packages offered by TravelTriangle?
Popular picks include the Fascinating Manali Tour Package from Ahmedabad, the Breathtaking Manali Tour Package from Mumbai and the Luxurious Honeymoon Trip to Manali. Because every package is customisable, most travellers start from one of these and adjust the hotels, days and cities to suit their plan.
How far is Manali from Delhi, and is there a Volvo option?
Manali is about 540 km from Delhi, a 12 to 14 hour drive on NH 3. Overnight Volvo coaches run this route daily and reach Manali in roughly the same time, which is why many from-Delhi packages include a Volvo seat both ways. You can also fly to Bhuntar or Chandigarh and drive the rest.
How many hours is the cab available per day in Manali?
Most sightseeing packages provide a cab for local point-to-point sightseeing as per the fixed itinerary rather than an unlimited hourly hire. If you want the car at your disposal for extra hours or an off-itinerary trip like Rohtang, ask your agent to add a private cab; it is quoted separately.
Can I customise the itinerary or book a private cab?
Yes. Every Shimla Manali package on TravelTriangle is fully customisable. You can change hotels, add or remove days and cities, upgrade to a private cab instead of shared transfers, and set your own pickup and drop points. Your agent re-quotes based on the changes before you confirm.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
Cancellation terms are set per package and season and are shared by your agent in writing before you pay. As a rule, earlier cancellations recover more of the amount, while flights, permits and peak-season hotel bookings can be non-refundable. Confirm the exact window and refund slabs for your package before booking.
Is it safe to walk at night in Manali?
Manali is generally safe and pleasant at night. The main streets and Mall Road are well lit and busy in season, and the clear night sky is a draw in itself. As anywhere, stick to lit, populated areas and keep to the main roads late at night.
Is Rohtang Pass extra chargeable, and do I need a permit?
Yes. Rohtang Pass is not usually part of the base package price. It needs a separate permit (booked online in advance, with a daily vehicle cap) and is open only in the snow-free months, typically May to November. Your agent can arrange the permit and cab; confirm the current fee and availability for your dates before you travel.
