Rameshwaram is an important religious site because of the presence of the famous Rama Setu bridge on its coasts. It is said that the Hindu god Rama built a bridge from here to Sri Lanka in order to save his wife from Ravana. It was basically a stone bridge, on which when written ‘Rama’ started floating on the surface of water, walking on which Lord Rama, along with his forces reached Sri Lanka.
The best time to enjoy Rameshwaram family package is from October to April. However, it has an overall tropical climate and can be visited any time of the year. The monsoons are usually humid, but the majestic view of the coastal regions is very beautiful in these months.
Reaching Rameshwaram is also not a problem, especially while travelling with the little ones. Kothandaramaswamy temple holds the deities of Rama, Lakshman, Sita & Hanuman is believed to be the residing spot of Vibhishana, the younger brother of Ravana. The five faced Hanuman Temple is famous for the five manifestations of Lord Hanuman and is listed among the most prestigious places to see in Rameshwaram. The Hanuman Temple is said to house stones used to build the Rama Setu. Other famous religious sites are Satchi Hanuman Temple, Nambu Nayagiamman Temple, Badrakaliamman Temple, etc.
