If you book one island for the luxury, book Havelock. Radhanagar Beach (Beach No.7) is the wide, west-facing curve that lands on the world's-best-beaches lists, and it is where everyone gathers at 5pm for the sunset. Almost no resort sits directly on Radhanagar, so the top stays cluster a short drive away near Govind Nagar and Beach No.5, then shuttle you over for the evening.

Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, the one true flagship

Taj Exotica is the only internationally certified 5-star in the whole archipelago, set on the Radhanagar side with private villas, a Jiva spa and a genuinely secluded beach feel. Rates open around INR 21,750 a night off-peak and run past INR 40,000 for a villa in peak season, with suites higher still. If the trip is a honeymoon or a milestone, this is the benchmark everything else is measured against.

Luxury resorts on Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep)

Neil is Havelock's slower, softer-priced cousin, about a one to one-and-a-half hour ferry further out. Laxmanpur draws the sunset crowd, Sitapur is the sunrise beach on the far tip, and the natural rock bridge sits in between. Luxury here is smaller and calmer, and it costs less than the same tier on Havelock.

• Symphony Summer Sands Beach Resort near Laxmanpur, from INR 6,824 a night, runs Beach Mansion and Ocean Suite villas. The quiet-luxury pick for couples who want Neil over the Havelock crowds.
• SeaShell, Neil (from INR 6,700) has AC beach cottages and a pool, walkable to the Natural Bridge. Most travellers pair one Neil night with two or three on Havelock.

What 5-star actually means in Andaman

"5-star" and "luxury" get used loosely on island listings, so here is what the labels really cover. Pay for the things you will use.

• Certified vs marketing 5-star. Only Taj Exotica, WelcomHotel by ITC Bay Island and Symphony Samudra are certified 5-stars. Others in this list are strong 4-star or eco-luxury. That is not a knock, it is how you avoid paying flagship money for a 4-star room.
• Sea-view vs true beachfront. Most Andaman "beach resorts" are a two to ten minute walk from the sand, not on it. Taj Exotica and Barefoot come closest to a private-beach feel. Check the exact distance from the room to the water, not the label.
• On-site dive centre. Coral Reef and Barefoot run their own diving. A beginner Discover Scuba is around INR 3,500 and you are back for lunch, so an in-house centre saves a daily boat transfer.
• Spa, pool and transfers. A pool and spa are standard from the mid-luxury tier up (SeaShell, Symphony, Taj Exotica). Island logistics eat time, so a resort or package that includes jetty and airport pickups is worth more than the headline rate suggests.

Best time to visit and book for the best rate

Go between November and April for calm seas, clear water for diving and reliable ferries. December to mid-January is peak, and luxury rates climb hardest over Christmas and New Year, so book those six to eight weeks out. The shoulder weeks of November and February to April give you the same weather for noticeably less, often a third off the Taj Exotica villa rate. What to pack for an Andaman resort trip

• Quick-dry clothes and swimwear, plus sandals you can walk a jetty in.
• A power bank and offline maps, since mobile data is patchy on Havelock and Neil, and BSNL is the most reliable network.
• Enough cash for ferry and permit counters and smaller vendors; ATMs are few outside Port Blair.
• Any ID needed for the ferry booking; Indian nationals do not need a permit, foreign nationals should check the current rule.
