Thailand Trekking Packages

Thailand Trekking Packages: rated 4.4/5 (based on 4930 reviews) | Packages starting from ₹20,000/-

Thailand trekking packages at a glance

Thailand trekking tour packages take you off the beaches and into the north's jungle-covered hills, where the real draw is a night in a Karen or Lahu village, a bamboo raft down a muddy river, and a dawn walk to a waterfall most tourists never see. Most trips run out of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, with Khao Sok in the south for jungle-and-lake trekkers.
The cool, dry window from November to February is the season to go, and January is the busiest month on the trails. Every package here is priced in rupees and can be customised, so an Indian traveller sees the real cost of a 2 or 3 day trek without doing currency maths on a Thai operator's site.

Rated 4.4/5 by 4,930 verified travellers, trusted by 40 Lac+ happy travellers since 2011, with free itinerary customisation and 24/7 support on the trip. Prices in rupees, no hidden currency markup.

Prices are indicative starting points and can change with group size, season and inclusions. Confirm the final rupee cost with your trip coordinator before you pay.

Best treks in Thailand, region by region

Almost every Thailand trek starts in the north. The hills around Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai hold the classic multi-day routes with village homestays, while the far south adds one standout: the rainforest and lake of Khao Sok. Here is what each base gives you, and who it suits.

Chiang Mai (jungle trek + hill-tribe homestay)

Chiang Mai is the launch pad for most trekkers. The Mae Taeng and Chiang Dao valleys north of the city are the busiest trekking country, with trails that climb through bamboo forest to Karen and Lahu villages where you stay the night. A typical 2 or 3 day trip pairs the walk with a bamboo raft down a river and a stop at a waterfall, and many operators bundle a half-day elephant sanctuary visit near Mae Wang as an add-on. This is the best all-round base for a first jungle trek.

Chiang Rai (short hill-tribe treks, 2D1N and 3D2N)

Two hours north of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai runs quieter hill-tribe treks to Akha, Lahu and Hmong villages, usually as a 2 day 1 night or 3 day 2 night loop. Groups are smaller and the walking is gentler, so it works well if you want the homestay night without a hard climb.

Doi Inthanon (Thailand's highest peak, day trek)

Doi Inthanon is the tallest mountain in the country, about 90 minutes from Chiang Mai. It is a day-trek destination rather than an overnight one: cloud-forest nature trails, the twin royal pagodas, and the Wachirathan and Mae Ya waterfalls. Good for trekkers short on time or travelling with older parents.

Pai, Mae Sariang, Soppong and Umphang (off-beat north)

Pai sits in a valley of rivers, hot springs and canyons, an easy add-on to a Chiang Mai trek. Mae Sariang, further west, is the gentlest of the northern bases and the one most operators recommend for a first-timer or an easy grade. Soppong is cave-and-trek country, with paddy fields and forest trails for people who want something off the usual circuit. Umphang, near the Myanmar border, is the route to Thi Lo Su, the highest waterfall in Thailand, and its treks run November to February when the monsoon has cleared.

Khao Sok (jungle and lake, the south)

If you are already heading to the southern beaches, Khao Sok National Park is the one trek worth the detour. Its rainforest is older than the Amazon, and the usual trip is a 2 or 3 day jungle safari built around Cheow Lan Lake, staying in floating raft-house lodges, with a jungle trek and a canoe paddle between limestone cliffs. It is the wildest-feeling trek on this page.

For the full trekking guide with trail-by-trail detail, see our guide to trekking in Thailand. For everything else on the country, from beaches to temples, use the Thailand travel guide.

Best time to trek in Thailand

Trek in the cool, dry season from November to February. Days are warm but the humidity drops, the trails are firm rather than muddy, and river levels are safe for rafting. January is the peak month, so book homestays early if you travel then. March to May gets very hot and hazy from farm burning in the north, and June to October is the monsoon, when jungle trails turn slippery and some Umphang and Khao Sok routes close. If you can only travel in the rains, stick to short, guided day treks rather than multi-day routes.

Difficulty grades, what's included and what to pack

How hard are the treks?

Most northern hill-tribe treks are graded easy to moderate: 3 to 5 hours of walking a day on forest paths with some steep, muddy sections, well within reach of anyone reasonably fit. Mae Sariang and the shorter Chiang Rai loops are the gentlest and the usual pick for first-timers and families with older children. Doi Inthanon day trails are the easiest of all. Umphang and longer Khao Sok safaris are the most demanding, with longer days and rougher ground.

What a trekking package usually includes

• An English-speaking local trek guide (and often a village guide on homestay nights)

• Village homestay or jungle lodge on multi-day treks

• Meals while on the trek, plus drinking water

• Return transfers from Chiang Mai or your northern base to the trailhead

• Bamboo rafting and, where listed, an elephant sanctuary or waterfall stop

Flights to Thailand, personal expenses, tips and travel insurance are normally extra. Check each package for the exact inclusions before you book.

What to pack for a jungle trek

• Broken-in trekking shoes with grip, and sandals for river crossings

• Quick-dry shirts and shorts, plus one warm layer for cool November to January nights

• A light rain shell, even in the dry season

• Insect repellent, reef-safe sunscreen and a basic first-aid kit

• A head torch, a power bank and a dry bag (village electricity can be limited)

• Cash in Thai baht for tips and small village purchases; card use is rare on the trail

How much does a Thailand trekking package cost in rupees?

This is where booking with an Indian operator saves you the guesswork. Thai operators quote in baht or dollars; here is the same trek in rupees. The bands below are typical starting costs per person, before flights, and move with group size and season.

Trek Length Cost from (per person) What you get
Day trek near Chiang Mai 1 day Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,500 Guide, one hill trail, waterfall, transfers
Chiang Rai hill-tribe trek 2D / 1N Rs 11,000 to Rs 18,000 Village homestay, guide, meals, transfers
Chiang Mai jungle trek 3D / 2N Rs 16,000 to Rs 28,000 Homestay, bamboo raft, waterfall, meals
Khao Sok jungle & lake safari 2-3D Rs 20,000 to Rs 34,000 Raft-house stay, canoe, jungle trek, meals

Figures are estimates converted from current market rates for planning only. Your trip coordinator confirms the exact rupee price for the dates and group you choose.

Why book your Thailand trek with TravelTriangle

We are not a Thai trekking operator; we are the Indian bridge to the good ones. Every trek here is run by a vetted local partner, quoted in rupees, and fully customisable, so you can add a Chiang Mai temple day or a Khao Sok extension without starting over. Our travellers rate their Thailand trips 4.4/5 across 4,930 reviews, and a coordinator stays reachable 24/7 through the trek.

Our Thailand desk cross-checks every trek season, price and inclusion with the ground operator before a package goes live.

Anant's 7 days trip to Thailand

We booked a 7D/6N Krabi & Phuket package with Trip Trail through Travel Triangle for our family of 4 adults and 2 children this was our first international tour, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. From the very beginning, Yugal and his team displayed exceptional professionalism – e
very detail of the itinerary was shared with us in advance, making the trip completely stress-free. The tour was meticulously organised – from smooth airport transfers and well-planned excursions to family-friendly activities that kept both adults and kids engaged. What impressed us the most was the constant support from their local team in Thailand, who were available round the clock to address queries or provide assistance whenever needed. This ensured we could simply relax and enjoy our holiday without any concerns. Another standout aspect was their transparency and integrity. All expenses were clearly communicated, and when flight charges reduced, they proactively revised and lowered our package cost. Such honesty is rare and truly commendable. Overall, we had a memorable and worry-free holiday, thanks to Trip Trail’s expertise and dedication. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a well-curated, reliable, and professionally managed travel experience. Special thanks to Yugal and his team for making our family vacation so enjoyable. Highly recommended

FAQs About Thailand Trekking Tour Packages

How much does a Thailand trekking package cost in rupees?

A guided day trek near Chiang Mai starts around Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,500 per person. A 2 or 3 day jungle trek with a hill-tribe homestay, meals and rafting runs about Rs 11,000 to Rs 28,000, and a Khao Sok jungle-and-lake safari sits at the top of that range. Prices exclude flights and can be customised, and because we quote in rupees you see the real cost without a currency markup.

Which are the best treks in Thailand for beginners?

Start in the north. Mae Sariang and the short 2 day Chiang Rai hill-tribe loops are the gentlest, with easy walking and a homestay night. Doi Inthanon is a relaxed day trek. Save Umphang and the longer Khao Sok safaris for when you have a trek or two behind you.

What is the best time to go trekking in Thailand?

November to February, the cool dry season, is the best window: firm trails, safe rivers and comfortable nights. January is the busiest month. Avoid the June to October monsoon for multi-day treks, when jungle paths get slippery and some Umphang and Khao Sok routes close.

Do I need a guide or a permit to trek in Thailand?

You do not arrange your own permit; a licensed local guide is included with every package and handles national-park entry and any village fees. Guided trekking is also far safer on unmarked jungle trails, and the guide is what makes the hill-tribe homestay possible. Indian travellers get visa-free entry for short stays, but confirm the current rule before you fly.

What accommodation do you get on a multi-day trek?

On northern treks you sleep in a hill-tribe village homestay, a simple wooden house with shared bedding, basic washing and a home-cooked dinner. In Khao Sok you stay in a floating raft-house lodge on the lake. It is basic and part of the experience, not a hotel, so pack light and bring a head torch.

What's included in a Thailand trekking tour package?

A typical package covers an English-speaking guide, homestay or lodge on multi-day treks, meals on the trail, transfers from your northern base, and bamboo rafting or a waterfall stop where listed. Flights, insurance, tips and personal spending are usually extra. Every package can be customised, so you can add an elephant sanctuary day or a Chiang Mai extension.
