Thailand Tourism
Explore the nature-kissed beauty of Thailand
Rated 4.40/5 ( based on 6534 reviews )
Thailand is the easiest first international trip for most Indian travellers, and in 2026 it is easier still: Indian passport holders get 60 days visa-free, Bangkok is about a 4-hour flight from Delhi and closer to 3 from Mumbai, and a well-planned 5 to 7 day trip runs roughly INR 25,000 to INR 75,000 per person. Beyond Bangkok you get the beaches of Krabi and Phuket, the islands off Pattaya, and the temples and night markets of Chiang Mai. This guide covers the best time to go, the visa and arrival card, city picks, a sample itinerary, real costs from India and answers to the questions first-timers actually ask. You can shape any of it into a trip with our Thailand tour packages.

About Thailand Tourism
Thailand sits in the heart of Southeast Asia and is one of the most visited countries in the world, and for Indian travellers it hits a rare balance of cheap, close and easy. You get coral islands, long beaches, busy street markets, gold-roofed temples and a late-night food-and-bar scene, all inside a week. Bangkok is the main gateway and the busiest hub, while Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi and the Phi Phi Islands pull travellers north to the mountains and south to the sea. The sweet spot for weather is November to April, when it is dry enough for sightseeing, island-hopping and water sports like scuba and snorkelling.
Give yourself 7 to 10 days to cover a couple of regions without living on transfers. If you only have a long weekend, a Bangkok and Pattaya loop works well. You can customise every route, city and hotel tier with our Thailand trips and depart from your own city.
Best Time to Visit Thailand
Thailand runs on three seasons. The cool, dry season from November to February is the best window and lines up neatly with the Diwali, Christmas and New Year holidays, so it is also the busiest and priciest. March to May is hot, which suits the beaches and islands if you do not mind the heat. The monsoon runs July to October, with short heavy showers rather than all-day rain, cheaper hotels and green, quiet countryside. For a Songkran (Thai New Year) trip, target mid-April; for the Loi Krathong lantern nights, aim for November.
Visa and Entry for Indian Travellers
Indian passport holders travel to Thailand visa-free for stays up to 60 days, so there is no visa fee or embassy visit for a normal holiday. The one required step is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), which every non-resident must complete online at least three days before arrival. Carry a passport valid for at least six months, your return ticket and proof of funds or hotel bookings in case immigration asks. Keep some cash in Baht for the airport and local expenses even though UPI and cards are widely accepted in cities.
Thailand Trip Cost from India 2026
A typical 5 to 7 day Thailand trip costs about INR 25,000 to INR 75,000 per person, set mostly by your hotel tier, the season and how many cities you add. Accommodation ranges from around INR 1,500 a night for a clean homestay or three-star room to INR 10,000+ for a beach resort. Street food and local transport stay cheap. The land-only starting fares below come from real packages on our site; flights from India are extra and sit inside that per-person budget.
| Package style | Cities | Nights | Starting from (per person, land only) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Family short break | Bangkok + Pattaya | 3N / 4D | INR 6,056 |
| Bangkok honeymoon | Bangkok | 3N | INR 9,000 |
| Pattaya getaway | Pattaya | 3N / 4D | INR 12,000 |
| Thailand 5-day | Bangkok + Pattaya | 4N / 5D | INR 15,999 |
| Phuket + Krabi honeymoon | Phuket + Krabi | 5N | INR 17,249 |
Prices are per person on twin-sharing, land only, and move with season and availability; flights are extra. Compare full costs and departures on our Thailand packages from Bangalore, from Hyderabad, from Mumbai and from Delhi, or browse all Thailand tour packages.
Top Cities and Places to Visit in Thailand
Most first trips mix one or two beach regions with a city and a temple day. Here is who each place suits, so you can pick fast. For the full list with photos and timings, see our Thailand places to visit guide.
Bangkok
The capital and main entry point. The Grand Palace, Wat Arun and Wat Pho anchor the temple day, Chatuchak Weekend Market handles shopping, and Khao San and the rooftop bars run late. Good for a 2 to 3 day start or a family base.
Pattaya
A quick beach-and-nightlife hop about two hours from Bangkok, easy to bolt onto a short trip. Coral Island (Koh Larn) day trips, Sanctuary of Truth and water sports keep families and groups busy.
Phuket
Thailand's biggest beach base in the south, with Patong for nightlife and quieter bays for couples. It is the launch pad for Phi Phi and James Bond Island boat trips.
Krabi
Limestone cliffs, Railay Beach and calmer, family-friendly sands. Pairs naturally with Phuket for a beach-heavy south Thailand week. Maya Bay day trips run from here and Phi Phi.
Chiang Mai
The northern culture capital: Wat Phra That Doi Suthep on the hill above town, an elephant sanctuary day, the Sunday Walking Street and the Night Bazaar. Best paired with Chiang Rai and the White Temple on a longer trip.
A Sample 7 to 10 Day Thailand Itinerary
A relaxed route that mixes city, culture and beach without backtracking:
• Day 1: Land in Bangkok, settle in and eat your way through a night market.
• Day 2: Bangkok temples and markets: Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Arun and Chatuchak.
• Day 3: Day trip to Ayutthaya for the historical park and old capital ruins.
• Day 4: Fly north to Chiang Mai for Doi Suthep and the old city.
• Day 5: Elephant sanctuary morning and a waterfall or the Night Bazaar.
• Day 6: Fly south to Krabi for the beaches and Railay.
• Day 7: Phi Phi or Maya Bay boat day, then relax.
• Days 8 to 10: Spare days for Phuket, Pattaya or a slower pace before you fly home.
Things to Do in Thailand
Thailand packs in more than temples and beaches. On the water you can scuba dive, snorkel, jet-ski, wakeboard, kayak and ride banana boats off almost every coast. On land there are elephant sanctuaries, night safaris, ziplining and, for the brave, bungee jumping in Pattaya. Time your trip with a festival and it lifts the whole thing: the Songkran water fights in April and the Loi Krathong lantern floats in November are the two big ones. Wind down with a Thai spa or a massage, which costs a fraction of what you would pay at home.
Shopping is its own activity. Chatuchak Weekend Market covers clothing, handicrafts and street food, Damnoen Saduak is the classic floating market, and King Power handles duty-free. Thai silk, spa and aroma products, carvings and coconut oil are the souvenirs worth space in your bag.
How to Reach Thailand from India
By air (the easy way)
Flying is the fastest and cheapest route for almost everyone. Direct flights land at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang airports from Delhi (about 4 hours), Mumbai (about 3 hours nonstop), Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai, on both full-service and low-cost carriers. Phuket and Chiang Mai take connections. Book a few weeks ahead and watch the monsoon months for the lowest fares. For a city-by-city breakdown, see how to reach Thailand from Bangalore.
By road and sea
Overland is possible via the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway, roughly 3,200 km from Moreh in Manipur through Myanmar to Mae Sot, crossing two international borders. It needs an International Driving Permit, full vehicle papers and dry-season timing, so it is for road-trip enthusiasts, not a normal holiday. A handful of cruises also run to Phuket from Mumbai. For nearly everyone, a flight to Bangkok is the sensible choice. Inside Thailand, taxis, tuk-tuks, ferries and cheap domestic flights get you around.
Where to Stay and Budget Tips
Thailand stretches every budget. Hostels and homestays start near INR 1,500 a night, comfortable three- and four-star hotels sit in the middle, and beach resorts in Phuket or Krabi climb to INR 10,000+. Rates jump in the November to February peak and fall in the monsoon. A few habits keep costs down:
• Book flights and hotels a few weeks early for the best rates.
• Travel in the shoulder or off-season if your dates are flexible.
• Eat at street stalls and local cafes; carry some cash for pier, market and temple counters.
• Withdraw odd amounts at ATMs so you get change, and activate international roaming before you fly.
Food, Culture and Local Etiquette
Thai food alone is worth the trip. Work through Pad Thai, Tom Yum Goong, Massaman Curry, Khao Soi and Pad See Ew at street stalls and sit-down restaurants alike, and do not worry about being vegetarian: big cities and tourist areas have plenty of vegetarian and vegan kitchens. Culturally, Thailand blends Indian, Chinese and Khmer influences, seen in the temples, festivals and crafts. A little respect goes a long way: remove your shoes before entering temples and homes, dress modestly at sacred sites and cover your shoulders and knees. Thai is the main language and English is widely understood in tourist areas.
What to Pack
• A scarf or stole to cover shoulders and head at temples.
• Reef-safe sunscreen and a beach hat for the coast and water sports.
• Light, breathable cotton clothing for the tropical heat, plus one rain layer in monsoon months.
• Passport, TDAC confirmation, visa-free entry proof and copies of key documents.
• A universal adaptor, a power bank and a basic first-aid kit with your regular medicines.
Popular Thailand Packages
Every package on our site is customisable and can start from your own city, so you are choosing an itinerary and a hotel tier, not a fixed departure. • Couples: Thailand honeymoon packages through Phuket, Krabi and Bangkok.
• Friends and groups: Thailand group tour packages built around Pattaya and the islands.
• From your city: Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi departures with fares and flight options.

Travel To Thailand

By Air
Traveling to Thailand from India by air is the best and the easiest option. The most frequented airports in Thailand are the Suvarnabhumi Airport and the Don Mueang International Airport, which also happens to be the oldest operating airport in Asia. Phuket and Chiang Mai International Airports can also be reached, but usually not directly. It takes nearly 4 hours to travel from Delhi to Thailand by air. Mumbai to Thailand flights are frequent and the most affordable. The average nonstop flight time is around 3 hours. Flights of both mainstream and low-cost carriers ferry more than once too and from the Thai capital. To avail the cheapest flights, one needs to keep an eye out at the off-season charts. Since most of South Asia gets heavy rain during the early monsoon, the rates of flight tickets are low. The various online portals also offer sales and discounts throughout the year which you could be eligible for.
By Road
Thailand is connected to India via the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway that passes through Myanmar for the most part. The distance of travel is approximately 3200 km and takes a day and a half to complete. The road starts from Moreh in Manipur, India and passes through Myanmar connecting with Mae Sot in Thailand. This is the easiest way to go from India to Thailand by road. However, the trip is best made during the dry months of stable weather and should be avoided during the monsoon. November to February is the ideal time to make the plan a trip from Delhi to Thailand by road. It can be made on any vehicle, but powerful six-wheeler SUVs are preferred. The tourists have to ensure that the driver has an International Driving Permit along with a valid Driver’s license and all the papers of the vehicle. You will need to show these papers at the various checkpoints since you are will be crossing two international borders and go through three countries. Since the drive is long, it would be wise to pack food and drinks as well as medicines, if the tropical climate does not suit you well.
Unless one is a big fan of prolonged road trips, taking a flight to Bangkok is the most sensible way to reach Thailand from India in all seasons.

Thailand Travel FAQs
Do Indian travellers need a visa for Thailand?
No. Indian passport holders can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days for tourism, so there is no visa fee or embassy application for a normal holiday. The one required step is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), filed online at least three days before you fly. Carry a passport valid for six months and your return ticket.
How many days in Thailand are enough?
Seven to ten days is the sweet spot: enough to pair a beach region (Krabi or Phuket) with a city (Bangkok) and a culture stop (Chiang Mai) without living on transfers. If you only have four or five days, keep it to one region, such as a Bangkok and Pattaya loop or a Phuket and Krabi beach week.
How much does a Thailand trip cost from India?
Budget about ₹25,000 to ₹75,000 per person for a 5 to 7 day trip, set mainly by hotel tier, season and how many cities you add. Land-only packages start near ₹6,056 per person for a short Bangkok and Pattaya break; flights from India are extra. See the trip-cost section above for a full breakdown.
What is the best time to visit Thailand?
November to February is the best time to visit Thailand. These months bring dry, cool weather countrywide, calm seas on both coasts and clear skies for beaches and islands, with daytime temperatures around 26 to 32 degrees Celsius. It is peak season, so book flights and hotels a few weeks ahead. For the same weather at lower prices, target early November or February, just off the December-January peak.
Is Thailand or Bali better for a first international trip?
For most first-timers from India, Thailand is the easier pick: more direct flights, 60-day visa-free entry, a wider range of cities and beaches, and lower day-to-day costs. Bali is a single-island trip that suits a focused beach-and-culture week. Thailand gives you Bangkok, the northern hills and two coasts in one visit.
Which Thailand cities should first-timers pick?
Start with Bangkok plus one beach base. Add Pattaya for a quick beach-and-nightlife hop, Phuket and Krabi for the best southern beaches, and Chiang Mai for temples, elephants and cooler weather up north. A classic first trip is Bangkok, Pattaya and either Phuket or Krabi.
What is the currency and exchange rate in Thailand?
The currency is the Thai Baht (THB). As a rough guide, 1 INR is about 0.35 THB, but rates move, so check on the day. UPI and cards are widely accepted in cities; carry some cash in Baht for piers, markets, temples and small vendors, and you can exchange on arrival.
How should one dress in Thailand?
The country is quite liberal in terms of clothing. However, when visiting temples and other holy places, tourists should ensure they are dressed appropriately and follow Local customs.
Are there vegetarian restaurants in Thailand?
Yes, plenty, especially in Bangkok and the tourist areas. Vegetarian and vegan food is easy to find, from dedicated kitchens like Ethos, May Kaidee, Veganerie and Broccoli Revolution to veg versions of Pad Thai and curries at most restaurants. Ask for dishes made without fish sauce if you are strict.
When is the rainy season in Thailand?
The monsoon runs July to October, with short, heavy afternoon showers rather than constant rain. It is the cheapest time to travel, the countryside is green, and mornings are often clear. Seas can be choppier, so check boat and island-tour conditions in the wettest weeks.
What is the best time to visit Thailand ?
November to February is the best window, with cool, dry weather for sightseeing, beaches and island-hopping. It overlaps the Indian festive holidays, so it is also the busiest and most expensive. March to May is hot but good for the coast, and the July to October monsoon brings cheaper rates and short, heavy showers.
How should one dress in Thailand ?
Everyday dress is relaxed and casual. At temples and sacred sites, cover your shoulders and knees and remove your shoes before entering. Carry a scarf or light layer for temple visits, and pack breathable cotton for the heat and one rain layer if you travel in the monsoon.
