About Visakhapatnam

Vishakhapatnam is a coastal city in Andhra Pradesh and is often referred to as "The Jewel of the East Coast". It is nestled among the Eastern Ghats and faces the Bay of Bengal in the east. It is also the home ground of the Eastern Naval Command ofthe Indian Navy. The city is named after the God Vaishaka and is popularly called Vizag. Vishakhapatnam is bestowed with a rich cultural andhistorical heritage. Once it was associated with the ancient kingdom of Kalinga and has been ruled by Ashoka and Krishnadev Raje. The city is ideal fornature enthusiasts owing to the aesthetic beauty pervading around. There is a range of pretty hills, golden beaches and natural valleys. Vizag is surrounded by three hills Sri Venkateshwara Konda, Ross hill and Dargah Konda.

BORRA CAVES: is well known for its appealing stalactite and stagmatite formations and is located 1400m above sea level in Anantgiri area ofVishakhapatnam.
Bhavi Konda, Thotla Konda, Bojjana Konda, and Salihundam located around Visakhapatnam were places of Buddhist excavations. These were hamlets of Buddhism during the second century AD. Excavation during 1906 in these places brought out many Buddhist monuments such as stupas and chaityas. It is believed that some of the corporal remnants of the Buddha were conserved at these sacred Buddhist places.  
The visitor is expected to enjoy the view of architectural remains of the Buddhist period dated from 200 BC to 700 AD, one of the earliest of its class in South India.  
A memorial known as "Victory at Sea" is built to commemorate the victory of 1971 at the sea Indo Pak war.
Araku is a famous tourist destination near Vishakhapatnam owing to its enchanting waterfalls, exquisite streams, beautiful landscape and lovely weather. It attractsmany environmentalists and nature lovers. Dhimsa dance with rich costume and rich cultural performance accompanied with rhythmic songs is popular. Itika Pongal iscelebrated with great pomp and show.
Bheemli Beach is a calm and serene beach located at the point of contact of Gosthani River and the Bay of Bengal. It is featured by the ruins of a 17th century fort and a cemetry.
Dolphin's Nose about 174 m high is located in southern Vishakhapatnam. The rock closely resembles a dolphin's nose and is placed at an altitude of 358m with its projectionto the Bay of Bengal in Vishakhapatnam.
Gangavaram Beach is located on the south of Vizag near Vishakhapatnam steel plant and is lined with pine trees. It is highly picturesque.
Kailasa Giri is a famous tourist spot and has serene and exquisite Rushikonda beach on the left and hillock on the right. Massive structures of Lord Shiva andGoddess Parvati are seen here. It is visited by visitors who reach the hillock via ropeway.
Kondakarla Ava Beach is located at a short distance from Vishakhapatnam and is a calm and beautiful beach meant for relaxation. The biggest fresh water lake in theState is located here.
Lawson's Bay beach is a calm and quiet beach located in the way to Kailasa Giri mount from Vishakhapatnam. It is ideal for surfing, swimming and sun bathing. It attracts large number of tourists.
RamaKrishna beach is ideal for relaxation and fun and is located at the east coast with the largest stretch of sea front.
Rushikonda beach is ideal for water sports and is one of the best beaches with one of the largest number of tourists visiting it everyday.
Tarak Rama Park popularly known as VUDA( Vishakhapatnam Urban Development Authority) is an alluring attraction and many tourists visit it owing to musicalfountain. The park is close to Ramakrishna Beach.
