The History behind the name

Abu Dhabi, one of the prime suppliers and manufacturers of oil, used to be a pearl trading country before oil was discovered. Furthermore, the name, Abu Dhabi, comes from unknown origins. There are various speculations over what could be the reason, but there isn’t any concrete evidence. Furthermore, the most common theories behind it include the theory that the name sprung from the presence of many deer present in the country, deer here are called dhibaa (plural). Another theory suggests that there was a man who used to chase a particular deer. As the story goes, the man was referred to as the father of the deer, hence the name Abu Dhabi.

Furthermore, the place was also referred to as Milh which translates to salt. The first word of Abu Dhabi is pronounced as “Bu” by the people of the western side of the city, and the eastern side of the city pronounce it as “Abu.”
