    About Bahamas Tourism

    Land and Climate

The Bahamas is a group of more than 700 islands and cays and extends more than 500 miles in length. The islands are flat and low, and the highest point on the archipelago is Mount Alvernia on Cat Island, which is only 63 meters above sea level. The natural beauty of the islands is incomparable. You will find evergreen forests, tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests, and mangroves. The climate is mild and pleasant throughout the year. The average temperature is between 21 (in winter) and 27 degrees Celsius (in summer). You’ll encounter rainfall during the summer months, and June to November is considered the hurricane season when heavy rains and storms from the seaside occasionally sweep the islands.

    Culture and Institutions

Most of the Bahamas' population is of African descent, followed by Europeans and mixed people. The official language is English, but French and Haitian Creoles are also spoken because of an influx of Haitian immigrants. Nassau is the capital city and cultural cornerstone of the Bahamas. The arts flourish in the Bahamas, and many institutions in Nassau are dedicated to fostering artists in painting, sculpture, photography, and crafts. Tourists can visit the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas and the Dundas Centre for the Performing Arts, among other museums and galleries.

    Top Attractions of The Bahamas

The name Bahamas derives from the Spanish word ‘bajamar’, meaning “shallow waters”. So, naturally, the country is famed for its clear waters, long sandy beaches, and spectacular coral reefs. Divers flock to the islands to see sharks, stingrays, moray eels, and octopi. Furthermore, due to a history of sea piracy and tricky shallow waters, divers will find a lot of shipwrecks in the waters of the Bahamas. The warm Caribbean Sea is perfect for snorkelling, windsurfing, deep-sea fishing, and sailing. Tourists are also attracted to the diverse flora & fauna of the islands. 32 national parks await you - including land and sea parks.
