Information about Thimphu
Visiting Thimphu will be an experience of a lifetime if one knows exactly what to expect from the capital city of Bhutan. The abode of the ruling dynasty of Bhutan and the entire governmental department, Thimphu does not look much like a dream travel destination. But in spite of the impeccably maintained urban scenario, somewhere deep down its beauty is still untouched by any of it. Here’s all that you need to know about Thimphu before paying the city a visit.
Weather in Thimphu: Thimphu enjoys a more or less pleasant temperate climate throughout the summer months till the monsoons come knocking. The spring season during March, April and May is the best time to visit Thimphu. This is when the sun starts to get warmer, and the famous rhododendrons start blooming. The average temperature in Thimphu during summer, as per any Thimphu travel guide is 25°C. After summer comes the heavy showers of the south-west monsoon, which make it difficult to travel around. But monsoon is followed by the clear skies of autumn and the chill of winter, which are also perfect times to visit Thimphu. In winter, the temperature does go below 0°C, but it is not unbearable.
Nightlife in Thimphu: It might be difficult to assume from the outside, but Thimphu has a happening nightlife scene. If a Thimphu map is consulted, there are quite a few nightclubs, bars and pubs to enjoy the night time in the city. Space 34, Club Ace, Mojo Park and Vivacity are the hip places of the town where the youth gather to party the night away. Mojo Park among these has a different ambiance. They play quality live music instead of in-house DJs and give platforms to local artists and bands. If partying is not your thing, the weekend market and the various cultural programs are there as well, which reflect the history and heritage of Bhutan.
Food in Thimphu: Bhutan has a very distinct palate which is an acquired taste. But the many restaurants and eateries in Thimphu make sure that the tourists have a good glimpse into what their country has to offer, culinary-wise. A reading of the Thimphu city map should point out the best restaurants in the neighborhood. Make sure to taste Bhutan’s special Ema Datshi – a spicy stew of cheese and chilies and Ara – the soul-warming alcohol made from distilled rice.
Shopping in Thimphu: The shopping scenario of Thimphu is rooted in tradition rather than commercialization. There are some malls and places for hawker markets in Thimphu, but those are not the places which get the tourist crowd. The main attractions are the shops which sell indigenous products like handicrafts, hand-woven textiles, thangkas, Buddhist figurines and prayer wheels and so on. People mostly trust the government emporiums for these type of things, and Thimphu has a couple of them. Other than that, there are a few shops which maintain their standard and their price as well.
Festivals in Thimphu: The most prominent festival of the capital city is the Thimphu Tshechu. It takes place for 3-4 days in the autumn season. Tshechu festivals are a celebration of the Bhutanese culture and Thimphu makes sure its festivities live up to the position of a country capital. Though originally it is a religious event in sentiment, the colors, music and brilliantly captivating performances make it a sort of a celebration of life.

Shruthiyer's 8 days trip to ThimphuBhutan is truly the kingdom og happiness. People are calm and look happy. Yogi from Flying fox was great in co-ordinating with the trip itinery and gave me a good deal and was very responsive and we chose Flying Fox over others. Sangey was assigned to us as a Driver & Guide. The man was vibrant and polite and also a good guide who shared with us many Bhutanese experiences and culture and we enjoyed each other's company. He told us about the history of the places. He also answered my questions about Bhutan and we asked him a lot of those. He was always before time at our hotel to receive us. We were assigned a Santa fe car and his driving skills were unbelievable in the landscapes. He took very good of our pictures too. This was a bonus for us. He told us his personal stories, we told him our's and after 7 days, he definitely became a friend from a stranger. He was cordial and soft-spoken just like all Bhutanese people.Bhutan - You are awesome. we had a memorable 8 days and the memories to cherish for a lifetime. the road trip in the monutains was absolutely great and comfortable. The food in Bhutan is never a problem for people coming from India and it provides with various Indian cuisines and every nook and corner in the towns has a cafe.

Sohini's 6 days trip to ThimphuThank you Travel Triangle for providing a platform to get connected to some sincere and caring travel agents like Dream Caster Tours and Travel.Initially their travel itinerary cought my attention,it was so beautifully explained in detail. Moreover as I started discussing about our plans, Chunku Ghalley answered all my queries very patiently throughout. Moreover,I had planned for a family trip to Bhutan from 17-22nd Nov, however due to some medical emergency I had to postpone it for a week at the last moment.Dreamcaster handled everything perfectly and changed our plan accordingly within a day's notice. From picking us from NJP to dropping us back to NJP, our tour guide Sudan helped us seeing and experiencing Bhutan in our own way. The best thing about Dreamcaster is that they never overpromised. We got more than expected. Thank you Dreamcaster for a wonderful trip! ❤

They went the extra mila to make us happy. Gauri took care of all our detailing and she was really good at it. Because of this , our trip became a happy and a memorable one. Carehimalayas's 8 days trip to ThimphuIt was amazing experience with Bhutan Rental And Travel. The supporting officers of company Karuna and Pema were so cooperative and guiding persons. Only one thing I want to advice Bhutan Rental & Travel is that when we got down at Bagdogra, we were not having mobile network at that point of time. We face some problem in contacting vehicle drivers. It is advised that they should give drivers name plates of the travellers, so that the travellers may not face problem in airport. Rest we have fun and in future we will only travel with Bhutan Rental And Travel company.
Pranav's 7 days trip to ThimphuHad a great time while exploring the Himalayan cities. The overall experience was good. Tigers Nest is the best place to visit, and don't miss out the valleys en route Thimphu..
Ashish's 8 days trip to ThimphuThe trip organized by Chencho was superb. It was not hectic and we covered most of the places we thought of. Even though he was not with us, he kept inquiring about our whereabouts and if we need any assistance. The assistance he provided for immigration, helping with good Indian food, hot stone bath etc were really great. Overall I would rate this trip as 1 of my best trip and all thanks to Backyard Bhutan for this. Tigers Nest and Hot stone bath after that
