About manali: rated 4.1/5 (based on 2585 reviews) | Packages starting from ₹5,279/-
Manali Budget Package
What makes a Manali trip go over budget is rarely the hotel. It is the last-minute Volvo seat, the peak-week room, and the sightseeing cab booked at the taxi stand. The packages below fix all three in one price, and our agents quote the real off-season rate rather than the walk-in rate. Below you will find exactly what a Manali trip costs by duration and hotel tier, the cheapest months to travel, and the 258 live packages you can compare and customise right now.
Budget Manali Trip At A Glance
| Detail | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Cheapest package | From Rs 5,279 per person, 2N/3D, twin-sharing |
| Packages available | 258 customisable budget packages |
| Trip lengths | 2N/3D to 6N/7D (short breaks to Spiti add-ons) |
| Budget tiers | Budget 2-star / guesthouse and Standard 3-star |
| Cheapest months | July to September (monsoon) and mid-September to early December, outside the Christmas-New Year peak |
| Included in the price | Hotel, breakfast and dinner, sightseeing, transfers. Airfare and personal costs are extra. |
How Much Does a Manali Trip Cost?
A budget Manali trip runs on two levers: how many nights you stay and whether you take a 2-star or a 3-star hotel. The table below is per person on twin-sharing, land-only (no airfare), with hotel, breakfast and dinner, sightseeing and transfers included. These are the honest budget-to-standard bands our agents quote, not a bait price.
| Trip length | Budget (2-star / guesthouse), per person | Standard (3-star), per person |
|---|---|---|
| 2 Nights / 3 Days | Rs 5,279 - Rs 7,500 | Rs 8,500 - Rs 11,000 |
| 3 Nights / 4 Days | Rs 7,500 - Rs 10,000 | Rs 11,500 - Rs 15,000 |
| 4 Nights / 5 Days | Rs 10,000 - Rs 13,500 | Rs 15,500 - Rs 20,000 |
| 5 Nights / 6 Days | Rs 13,000 - Rs 17,000 | Rs 20,000 - Rs 26,000 |
Two people on a 3N/4D budget trip therefore land at roughly Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 for the two of them, land-only. Add flights only if you are short on time: the overnight Volvo from Delhi is the single biggest saving on the whole trip, and it puts you in Manali by breakfast. Costs climb during the Christmas and New Year snow week, so if the calendar is flexible, the same package is cheaper a fortnight either side.
Budget vs Standard: What You Get At Each Tier
The word budget on this page means a genuinely comfortable trip at the lowest honest price, not a stripped-down one. Here is what changes as you move up a tier, so you can decide where your money is best spent.
| What changes | Budget (from Rs 5,279 pp) | Standard 3-star (from around Rs 11,500 pp) |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel | Clean 2-star or Old Manali guesthouse, mountain-view rooms on request | 3-star with in-house restaurant, often riverside or mall-road side |
| Transport | Volvo or shared cab, group sightseeing | Private cab for the whole trip |
| Meals | Breakfast and dinner included | Breakfast and dinner included, wider menu |
| Best for | Students, friend groups, first Manali trip | Couples and families wanting more comfort |
At the budget tier you save the most by travelling in a group of four or more (the cab and room split hardest), and by keeping paid activities to the two or three you actually care about. Paragliding at Solang and a Rohtang or Atal Tunnel day are the ones most travellers do not skip. Cafe-hopping in Old Manali and a walk to the Hadimba cedar forest cost nothing and fill a free budget day.
Best Time To Visit Manali (And The Cheapest Months To Go)
Manali is a year-round destination, so the best time depends on whether you are chasing snow or chasing a deal. The two rarely overlap, which is good news for a budget trip.
Summer (March to June)
The temperature sits between 10C and 25C and the valley is green, with apple orchards and wildflowers. This is peak season for camping, trekking, rafting on the Beas and paragliding at Solang, and it is when families travel to escape the plains. Rooms are in demand, so book early to hold the budget rate.
Winter (October to February)
Temperatures drop towards zero and snowfall arrives, usually from late December. This is the season people picture when they think of Manali, and Solang, Atal Tunnel and Sissu are the places to find fresh snow. Rates are highest around Christmas and New Year. Travel in the first three weeks of December or in late January and February and you get the snow at a noticeably lower price.
Monsoon (July to September): the cheapest window
This is when a budget Manali trip is at its cheapest. Rainfall is moderate to high and there is a real chance of landslides on the highways, so keep a buffer day, but hotel and cab rates fall sharply and the crowds thin out. If your priority is the lowest possible price rather than snow, travel in the second half of September, when the rain eases but the off-season rates have not yet risen.
Places And Experiences On A Budget Manali Trip
Most of what makes Manali worth the trip is free to look at. Entry to the temples, the passes and the valley viewpoints costs nothing, so the only real spend is the sightseeing cab, which your package already covers. These are the stops most budget itineraries include.
Solang Valley
The adventure hub of Manali, about 14 km from town, open roughly 10 am to 6 pm with no entry fee. In summer it is paragliding, zorbing and a ropeway; in winter it is the main skiing slope. Budget tip: the ropeway and joyrides are priced at the counter, so agree the rate before you sit down. Grab tea and snacks from the little street shops rather than the cafes.
Rohtang Pass and Atal Tunnel
Rohtang sits at 3,978 m, about 51 km and a 6 to 8 hour round trip from Manali, and it is where the snow-and-glacier photos come from. Vehicles need a permit (tourists do not), and permits are limited and issued online first-come-first-served, so a package with an agent-arranged permit saves a lot of queuing. Since 2020 the 9.02 km Atal Tunnel has changed this trip entirely: when Rohtang is shut by snow, the tunnel stays open and drops you into the Lahaul valley in minutes. It is now the single most-added stop on a Manali itinerary, and it costs nothing to drive through.
Sissu
Just beyond the Atal Tunnel in Lahaul, Sissu is a small village with a waterfall, a lake and a wide flat valley that has become the easiest snow-and-scenery day trip from Manali. Because the tunnel makes it a short drive, it is an ideal low-cost half day when the higher passes are closed.
Naggar Castle
A 15th-century stone-and-timber castle about 20 km from Manali, now a heritage hotel you can walk into for a small fee. It pairs well with the Roerich art gallery nearby and makes a cheap, unhurried morning away from the busier sights.
Manikaran and Kasol
About 80 km from Manali in the Parvati valley, Manikaran is known for its hot springs, the Gurudwara and the temples, with free langar at the Gurudwara. Nearby Kasol is the budget backpacker base of the valley and the start point for the Kheerganga trek, a popular two-day hike to a hot spring at the top that many budget travellers add on.
Hadimba Temple, Vashisht and Old Manali
Close to town and free to visit: the Hadimba cedar-forest temple, the Vashisht hot springs and temple, Manu Temple in the Beas valley, and Old Manali across the river for its cafes and slower pace. Beas Kund, the river's glacial source, is a rewarding day hike for anyone who wants a trek without a guide fee.
Things To Do On A Budget In Manali
The paid adventure activities are where a budget can quietly slip, so pick two or three and do them well. Paragliding at Solang is the one most travellers rate highest, with flights running roughly 8 to 30 minutes. Skiing and snow activities cluster around Solang and Atal Tunnel in winter. Zorbing down the Solang slope and white-water rafting on the Beas are both short, cheap thrills. For no spend at all, hike to Beas Kund, walk the Old Manali cafe stretch, sit by the river, and browse Manu Market for woollens and handicrafts, where bargaining is expected.

How To Choose The Right Budget Package
By budget: the 2-star tier from Rs 5,279 pp is the cheapest honest floor; step up to 3-star from around Rs 11,500 pp only if you want a private cab and a bigger room.
By duration: 2N/3D covers Manali town, Hadimba and Solang; 3N/4D adds Rohtang or Atal Tunnel and Sissu; 5N/6D lets you reach Manikaran, Kasol and the Kheerganga base without rushing.
By group: four or more travellers get the lowest per-person price because the cab and room split hardest; solo and couple trips cost more per head.
By season: travel July to September or in shoulder weeks for the lowest rates; for the full range beyond budget, see the full range of Manali tour packages, or the Shimla Manali combo packages.
What To Pack For A Budget Manali Trip
Manali is a hilly area, so pack light but practical. A season note and a short list is all you need.
- Warm layers and a windproof jacket for the passes, even in summer; heavy woollens, gloves and a cap from October to February.
- Sports or trekking shoes with grip for the rocky, steep terrain.
- A torch and a power bank, plus any regular medicines and a joint ointment if you plan to trek.
- Your ID card for hotel check-in and the Rohtang permit, and some cash for the ferry-style local counters and street shops.
