Royal Palace of Kandy

The Royal Palace of Kandy is situated right next to the famous Temple of the Tooth. The palace was home to a string of Kandyan Kings. Each ruler made changes to the castle according to his taste and convenience. The palace also houses the skulls of the people who rebelled against the British. Kandy Lake Island

Kandy Lake Island is located in the middle of the Kandy Lake. this was not originally meant to be an island but rather a dam. King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha started off with the construction of a dam right above the lake to make movement from one side of the lake to another easier. However, this dam was demolished from both sides, so the remaining middle portion fell on the lake and started floating on the water body. This was later called as an island and the locals believe that it was used by the king for bathing purposes. This is regarded as one of the most additions to Kandy’s history and culture. Temple of the Sacred Tooth
