Bangalore To Coorg Guide

  • Bangalore to Coorg

    By Road

    6.0 hours

    By Train

    2.0 hours

The Silicon Valley of India- Bangalore is the upcoming IT Hub with the electrically wired minds that are looking for a holiday retreat, and what’s better than something that gives them tranquility and peace. Talking about Bangalore to Coorg distance, the stretch is easily connected through well maintained roads and thus, people often prefer private cabs and buses to reach the destination. There are railway stations and airports nearby, which have an efficient connectivity. Bangalore to Coorg is a drive that will make one experience various bounties of nature. Entering the Western Ghats in the south of Karnataka, lies this little paradise which is a perfect way to push away the weekly 9 to 5 tiredness and fatigue. And what could be better than finding this getaway in the same state? On one hand, there's the air of metropolis and on the other, there's this air of peace that would make one feel life again. One thus needs to travel from Bangalore to Coorg for an enchanting experience, especially when there is a super convenient and extremely beautiful Bangalore to Coorg route, which is the cherry on the cake. Thus, it is a must take trip.

By Air:

To reach Coorg by air, Bangalore is one of the nearest airports. Thus, if one is finding any air routes from Bangalore to Coorg, then unfortunately there aren’t any. However, the roads are so comfortable, enriched with nature and it’s lush green bounties on both sides that no aircraft window would be able to capture. So why not take a much needed road trip to reach Coorg.

By Road:

To reach Coorg from Bangalore by road, there are two popular routes that people generally take. The first one is via Mysore and the second route is to be taken via Channarayapatna. The first route that is through Mysore is a comparatively shorter route and is preferred essentially when the destination is south Coorg, say Kutta, Gonikoppal, Virajpet, or Nagarhole. There are two stretches- SH17 (distance about 140 km) and SH88 (distance about 115 km). The roads on this route are mostly convenient and efficient. The only problem that one can face is the relatively high traffic between Bangalore and Mysore, especially around Mandya and Ramanagara stretches. But this again, is ruled out if one travels in the early hours of the day or forenoon. What gives it a heads up is the frequent restaurants and gas stations that can be found unlike the second route. The second route is through Channarayapatna, preferred if the destination is around Madikeri or Somwarpet area. The biggest plus of this route is the relatively fast moving traffic, though one may have a few toll booths on NH48. However, the probability of one finding good restaurants is low here, before one hits Madikeri town. However, both the routes have their own highs and lows and that is all one needs for a journey. There are several buses available as well to take one to Coorg.

By Train:

Coorg by train is a less preferred option because Coorg has no railway station of it’s own and thus, there is no direct train from Bangalore to Coorg. The nearest railway station is Mysore Railway Station, which takes about 3 hours from Bangalore. However, post here, one has to either take a bus or hire a cab to reach Coorg. Thus if one opts to take the train, then one anyway has to take the road after that.

Amrutha's 4 days trip to Coorg

Overall it went well but not as expected. Started with a delay of cab driver for 1.30 hour and couldn't cover the most of the places because of that. Driver was not able to guide us properly due to which we reached the spots but they were closed because of lack of proper communication.

Ran's 3 days trip to Coorg

hotel location is not as expected, it was long away from the hill station, since we were new to the place and unaware of the location, the Traveller should have guided us with the locations (climate, ambience) etc, this was not happened, should improve, we have also had a choice to cancel the current booked hotel to a new hotel in hill station with additional cost cost too, eventhough, the Traveller did not helped, overall, with the help of driver, we went to the places to which he is well versed
