Wat Arun Entrance Fee 2026 (200 THB): Tickets, Hours and How to Visit

Feel The Enthralling History of Buddhism – Plan A Trip To Wat Arun Today!

Rated 4.40/5 ( based on 6533 reviews )

All

INR 500

The Wat Arun entrance fee is 200 THB per person for foreign visitors, and Thai nationals enter free. The Temple of Dawn is open daily from 08:00 to 18:00, with last entry at 17:30. You buy tickets at the counter by the main entrance, so there is no need to book ahead. Most visitors cross to the temple on the short river ferry from Tha Tien pier, which costs only a few baht. The 200 THB ticket usually comes with a small bottle of water.

Wat Arun Entrance Fee 2026: Quick Answer

Here is everything a visitor needs before turning up, in one glance. All prices are in Thai baht (THB); the rupee figures are a rough guide at about 1 THB to Rs 2.87.

What you need The answer
Foreign adult fee 200 THB (about Rs 575), includes a small water bottle
Thai nationals Free
Opening hours Daily 08:00 to 18:00, last entry 17:30
How to reach Cross-river ferry from Tha Tien pier, a ride of under three minutes
Buying tickets On-site counter at the entrance, cash preferred, no advance booking
Dress code Shoulders and knees covered, sarong hire available on site

The single most common question is whether the fee has gone up. For 2026 the foreigner ticket holds at 200 THB, the same figure printed at the on-site counter and quoted by the temple staff. Thai nationals still enter without charge, which is why you may see two prices discussed online. Pay in cash where you can, because the QR-code option at the ticket window is not always switched on. For the full hour-by-hour rundown, see our Wat Arun timings page.

Wat Arun Ticket Prices: Full Breakdown

There is really only one ticket at Wat Arun, the 200 THB temple-grounds pass for foreign visitors. The table below adds the small extras a first-timer runs into on the day, so you can carry the right amount of cash and skip the queue-side surprises.

Visitor or item Cost (THB) Roughly in INR
Foreign adult ticket 200 THB about Rs 575
Foreign child Small children usually free, confirm at the counter not fixed
Thai national Free Free
Cross-river ferry (Tha Tien) A few baht each way about Rs 20
Thai costume rental (optional) 300 to 600 THB about Rs 860 to Rs 1,725

The ticket covers the whole riverside compound, including the base of the central spire and the ordination hall. The ferry and the costume hire are separate cash payments made on the spot. Nobody needs a printed voucher or an online booking. If a tout near the pier offers a special ticket or tells you the temple is closed, walk on to the official counter at the entrance and buy there.

Wat Arun Opening Hours (08:00 to 18:00)

Wat Arun opens at 08:00 and closes at 18:00 every day, with the ticket counter shutting for last entry at about 17:30. If you have seen an older listing of 8:30 to 5:30, that is out of date. Aim to arrive within the first two hours of opening or in the last two before close. The middle of the day is both the hottest and the busiest, with tour groups filling the narrow stairways of the prang.

The temple grounds themselves close at 18:00, but the spire is floodlit after dark. If you want the golden, lit-up view, cross back to the Tha Tien side of the river around sunset and watch it from the eastern bank, where the riverside restaurants line up for exactly this view. Full timing detail, including quieter slots by month, sits on our Wat Arun timings guide.

Dress Code at Wat Arun

Wat Arun is an active Buddhist temple, so the dress code is enforced at the gate for everyone, men and women alike. Shoulders and knees must be covered. That rules out vests, short shorts, and very short skirts. Light long trousers or a long skirt plus a sleeved top is the comfortable choice in Bangkok heat.

If you turn up in shorts or a sleeveless top, do not worry. A stall near the entrance rents wrap-around sarongs and cover-ups for a small deposit that you get back when you return them. Slip-on shoes help, because you remove your footwear before stepping inside the ordination hall.

Best Time to Visit Wat Arun

Two windows beat the rest. Early morning, from opening at 08:00 until about 10:00, gives you cool air, soft light on the white-and-porcelain spire, and space to climb the steps before the tour buses arrive. Late afternoon, from around 16:00 to close, is the photographer's slot, when the low sun turns the prang warm gold and the crowds thin as day-trippers head off.

For the postcard shot of the whole temple lit against the sky, come at dusk and view it from the far bank near Tha Tien, not from inside the grounds. In terms of season, November to February is the driest, coolest stretch and the peak travel window for Indian visitors. The March-to-May hot season is fierce by midday, so lean even harder on the early-morning slot then.

How to Reach Wat Arun: The Cross-River Ferry from Tha Tien Pier

Wat Arun sits on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, and the classic way across is the little cross-river ferry from Tha Tien pier (pier N8) on the east bank. Boats leave every 5 to 10 minutes from early morning until about 22:00, the fare is only a few baht paid in cash at the pier, and the crossing takes under three minutes. This is the correct pier for Wat Arun. If an older note points you to Maharaj pier, ignore it.

Getting to Tha Tien pier itself is easy. Take the Chao Phraya Express Boat and step off at Tha Tien (N8), or ride the MRT Blue Line to Sanam Chai station and walk about ten minutes past Wat Pho to the river. From there the ferry jetty is signposted. Taxis and ride-hailing drop you on the east bank too, from where you still take the ferry across.

For step-by-step routes from Sukhumvit, Silom, Khao San Road and the airports, see our full how to reach Wat Arun guide. First-time visitors also find our Wat Arun travel tips handy for pier timings and queue tricks.

Combine Wat Arun With Wat Pho and the Grand Palace

Wat Arun is the third point of Bangkok's riverside temple triangle. Directly across the water on the east bank stand Wat Pho, home of the giant Reclining Buddha, and a short walk further north, the Grand Palace with the Emerald Buddha. Most travellers do all three in one morning, and the geography makes it simple.

A practical order is to start early at the Grand Palace when it opens, walk down to Wat Pho, then take the Tha Tien ferry across to Wat Arun for late morning or, better, loop back for it at sunset. Budget separate entry fees for each: the Grand Palace and Wat Pho both charge their own admission on top of Wat Arun's 200 THB. Keep your shoulders and knees covered for all three, as the same dress code applies.

You will find every stop mapped on our Bangkok places to visit hub, along with the wider Bangkok travel guide.

What to See at Wat Arun: the 80-Metre Prang and Thai Costume Photos

The reason Wat Arun photographs so well is its central prang, a Khmer-style spire rising roughly 80 metres over the river. Up close it is covered in millions of pieces of coloured porcelain and seashell, much of it recycled from ballast that trading ships once carried from China. Steep steps take you partway up for a view over the Chao Phraya, though the very top tiers are closed off.

Around the base sit smaller satellite prangs, guardian statues, and the ordination hall (the ubosot), which holds a gilded Buddha image and old murals. Give yourself about an hour to walk it all at a relaxed pace.

For many visitors the highlight is renting a traditional Thai costume from one of the shops just outside the gate, then posing with the spire behind you. A full outfit with accessories runs about 300 to 600 THB for a few hours, and it is one of the most photographed experiences in the city. It is entirely optional, but if you want the dressed-up riverside photo, this is the place to do it.

Wat Arun for Indian Travellers

There is no separate Indian price at Wat Arun. Indian passport holders pay the same 200 THB foreigner fee, which works out to roughly Rs 575 at current rates, plus a few rupees for the ferry. Carry small Thai baht notes in cash for the ticket counter, the ferry, and any costume hire, because card and QR payments are not reliable at the temple.

For most Indian travellers Wat Arun is one stop on a Bangkok day. It pairs naturally with the Grand Palace and Wat Pho in the morning, or with a Chao Phraya dinner cruise in the evening. The best months to plan a trip from India are November to February, when Bangkok is at its driest and coolest.

The check-in process was seamless. The accommodation itself was beyond my expectations.I really love the swimming pool and the buffet breakfast. Beyond the hotel, the itinerary you crafted for us was diverse and captivating. From exploring the bustling streets of Bangkok to immersing myself in the natural wonders of Phuket, every destination left an indelible mark on my heart. Yugal was our travel agent. He was always available from the day we booked the trip till we completed our trip. He was always a call away and was helpful to resolve all the queries. His commitment was commendable. We took 4 night 5 days package. The hotels we stayed were fortunately good. Cab serv
ices were not as much cooperative as expected. I would suggest to include most imp tourist spots of bangkok/pattaya in basic package itself. Like we had a bangkok city tour in our package but reclining budha/watarun temple was not part of it. Better to have it included in basic packages which would improve customer satisfaction. But overall it was a good and hustle free experience.

    Bangkok Travel FAQs

What is the Wat Arun entrance fee in 2026?

The Wat Arun entrance fee in 2026 is 200 THB per person for foreign visitors, which is about Rs 575. Thai nationals enter free. The ticket usually includes a small bottle of water and is bought at the counter by the main entrance. There is no online booking and no extra charge for cameras.

Is Wat Arun free for Thai nationals and children?

Yes, Thai nationals enter Wat Arun free of charge, which is why you may see both a paid and a free price mentioned online. Small children are generally admitted free as well, though the temple does not publish a fixed height or age cut-off, so confirm at the ticket counter on the day.

What are Wat Arun's opening hours?

Wat Arun is open every day from 08:00 to 18:00, with the last entry at about 17:30. Older listings that say 8:30 to 5:30 are out of date. The grounds close at 18:00, but the spire is floodlit after dark and can be viewed from the opposite bank of the river near Tha Tien.

Is there a dress code for Wat Arun?

Yes. Wat Arun is a working temple, so shoulders and knees must be covered for both men and women. Avoid vests, short shorts and very short skirts. If you arrive underdressed, a stall near the entrance rents sarongs and cover-ups for a small refundable deposit, so you will not be turned away.

How do I get to Wat Arun, and which pier?

Take the cross-river ferry from Tha Tien pier (N8) on the east bank. Boats run every 5 to 10 minutes, the fare is only a few baht in cash, and the crossing takes under three minutes. Reach Tha Tien on the Chao Phraya Express Boat or via MRT Sanam Chai station, then walk past Wat Pho to the river.

What is the best time to visit Wat Arun?

The two best windows are early morning, from opening at 08:00 to about 10:00, for cool air and light crowds, and late afternoon towards the 18:00 close, when the low sun turns the prang gold. For the classic lit-up photo of the whole temple, come at dusk and view it from the far bank near Tha Tien.

Can I visit Wat Arun and the Grand Palace on the same day?

Yes, and most visitors do. The Grand Palace and Wat Pho are on the east bank, a short walk apart, and Wat Arun is a three-minute ferry ride across the river. A common plan is the Grand Palace at opening, then Wat Pho, then the ferry to Wat Arun. Each site charges its own separate entrance fee.

Can I climb the prang at Wat Arun?

Yes, you can climb the steep steps of the central prang partway up for a view over the Chao Phraya River. The very top tiers are closed to visitors for safety. The steps are narrow and steep, so wear grippy footwear and take care, especially in the middle of the day when the terraces get crowded.

Do I need to book Wat Arun tickets in advance?

No. There is no advance booking for Wat Arun. You buy the 200 THB ticket in cash at the counter by the entrance when you arrive. Skip any online reseller or pier-side tout offering special tickets, and pay at the official counter instead. Bring small baht notes, as card and QR payment are not reliable here.

How much is the cross-river ferry to Wat Arun?

The cross-river ferry from Tha Tien pier to Wat Arun costs only a few baht per person one way, paid in cash at the pier. Boats leave every 5 to 10 minutes from early morning until roughly 22:00, so you rarely wait long. It is separate from the 200 THB temple ticket and takes under three minutes each way.
