Compare small-group Sri Lanka tour packages from Rs 49,000 per person, customisable with India departures.: rated 4.3/5 (based on 3380 reviews) | Packages starting from ₹49,000/-

Sri Lanka group tour packages: Overview

Trusted by 40 Lac+ happy travellers since 2011. Free customisation, verified local agents and 24x7 on-trip support on every Sri Lanka group departure.

A group trip to Sri Lanka works because the island is compact. You can stand on a tea-estate hillside in Nuwara Eliya in the morning and watch a leopard cross a track in Yala two days later, without anyone in the group spending more than a few hours in the vehicle. Our Sri Lanka group tour packages are built for exactly that: small, fixed-departure groups travelling together through Kandy, Sigiriya, Ella, the hill country and the south coast, with a private vehicle, a driver-guide and a fixed per-person price. Prices start at Rs 49,000 per person on twin sharing, and every itinerary below can be customised for your own group. If you want the full country picture first, read the Sri Lanka travel guide, or compare the wider range on the Sri Lanka tour packages hub.

How big are the groups on a Sri Lanka group tour?

Our Sri Lanka group departures are kept small on purpose. Most fixed departures run with a maximum of around 18 travellers, and several of the shorter routes go out with 10 to 12. That size matters more than it sounds. A group of 15 fits one coach and one guide, so the whole group moves together through the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy or onto the Kandy to Ella train without splitting into shifts. On a group of 40 you queue twice for everything and the quiet moments disappear.

• A small group suits you if you want to meet other travellers but still get a window seat on the Ella train and a front-row spot at a Yala safari jeep.

• It also suits you if you are travelling solo or as a couple and want company, shared costs and a guide, without organising the logistics yourself.

• Prefer your own group? your family or friends want the whole trip to themselves. We can run any of these itineraries as a private group departure for just your party.

Fixed departures and how to join

You can join a Sri Lanka group tour in three ways. Join a fixed departure and travel with a set small group on set dates, which is the easiest option for solo travellers and couples. Book a private group departure for your own family, friends or office group, on dates you pick. Or customise any itinerary on this page: change the number of nights, swap a beach day for a safari, add Trincomalee or Jaffna, or upgrade the hotels. Tell our agents your group size and the month you want to travel, and they will confirm the next available departure and a locked per-person price.

Sri Lanka group tour cost from India

A week-long Sri Lanka group trip from India usually lands between Rs 65,000 and Rs 95,000 per person all-in, depending on your departure city, the season and the hotel tier. Here is roughly where that money goes, per person, for a 6 to 7 night trip on twin sharing.

Cost component Typical per person
Return flight, India to Colombo Rs 18,000 to Rs 32,000
Land package (6N/7D, 3 to 4 star, twin) Rs 35,000 to Rs 55,000
Sri Lanka ETA (tourist entry) About US$50 (roughly Rs 4,200)
Meals, entry fees, tips and extras Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000
Indicative all-in Rs 65,000 to Rs 95,000

The 9 Days Sri Lanka with Airfare package bundles the return flight into the per-person price, so there is one number to budget against. Group travel also trims the per-head cost of the vehicle, driver-guide and some entry fees, because the group splits them.

Sample 7-day Sri Lanka group itinerary

This is the classic group route most of our travellers take. It threads the cultural triangle, the hill country and the south coast into one loop, and it is the template behind the packages in the table above.

• Day 1, arrive Colombo. Land at Bandaranaike airport near Colombo, meet the group and the driver-guide, and transfer to your first hotel. An easy first evening by the coast.

• Day 2, Colombo to Sigiriya. Drive north to the cultural triangle. Climb Sigiriya rock fortress in the cooler late afternoon, and visit the Dambulla cave temples on the way.

• Day 3, Sigiriya to Kandy. Stop at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, then on to Kandy for the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and an evening Kandyan dance show.

• Day 4, Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. Take the Kandy to Nuwara Eliya leg of the famous hill-country train through the tea estates, then tour a working tea factory in the cool of the highlands.

• Day 5, Nuwara Eliya to Ella and Yala. Continue to Ella for the Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adam's Peak, then drop down to the dry zone near Yala.

• Day 6, Yala to the south coast. Early leopard safari in Yala National Park, then west along the coast. Whale watching off Mirissa in season, and the ramparts of Galle Fort at sunset.

• Day 7, Bentota to Colombo. A Madu River boat safari and beach time at Bentota, then transfer back to Colombo for your flight home.

Shorter 5 and 6 night packages trim the far south; the 11-day trip adds more coast and wildlife time. For a deeper route guide, see the Sri Lanka travel guide.

Top places and best things to do on a Sri Lanka group tour

Small groups cover more of the island than most people expect in a week. These are the stops the group spends real time at, not just drives past.

Kandy. The cultural heart of the hills, set on a plateau around a lake. The group visits the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, catches an evening Kandyan dance show, and usually stops at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage on the way in.

Nuwara Eliya. Sri Lanka's tea capital, cool enough for a jacket in the evening. The highlight is the hill-country train ride in, plus a tea-factory tour, the colonial town and Gregory Lake.

Ella. A backpacker-turned-everyone favourite in the hills. The Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam's Peak and Ravana Falls are all within easy reach, and the train in is the most photographed journey in the country.

Yala. Sri Lanka's best big-cat park and home to one of the densest leopard populations anywhere. An early-morning group jeep safari is the standard way in, with elephants, crocodiles and sloth bears along the way.

Mirissa and Galle. The south coast pairs whale watching off Mirissa (blue and sperm whales in season) with the Dutch-built ramparts of Galle Fort, a walkable UNESCO old town best at sunset.

Bentota. The group's wind-down. A Madu River mangrove boat safari in the morning, then water sports and beach time at this south-west resort town.

Colombo. The capital and arrival point. Colonial buildings, the National Museum, Gangaramaya Temple and Galle Face Green make an easy half-day at the start or end of the trip.

Best time for a Sri Lanka group trip

Sri Lanka has two monsoons, so the best month depends on which coast your group is chasing. For the west coast, south coast and hill country (which is where most group routes go), travel December to March for dry, sunny days. For the east coast around Trincomalee, late April to September is the dry window. December to March is peak for groups, so book fixed departures early. Full month-by-month detail is on the Sri Lanka travel guide.

How to reach Sri Lanka from India

Nearly every group flies in. Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), about 35 km north of Colombo, is the main gateway. Direct flights run from Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi and Kolkata, and the Chennai to Colombo hop is barely 1.5 hours. On the 9 Days with Airfare package the return flight is already included; on the others you can add flights from your city.

By sea. Sri Lanka is an island, so cruises call at Colombo Port and other harbours, but there is no regular passenger ferry from India at the moment. For a group, flying is faster and cheaper.

What's included and what's not

Included Not included
Accommodation on twin sharing (3 to 4 star) International airfare (except the Airfare package)
Daily breakfast Sri Lanka ETA / entry fee
Private air-conditioned vehicle with driver-guide Lunches and dinners unless specified
Airport transfers Entry and camera fees at monuments and parks
Sightseeing as per the itinerary Personal expenses, tips and travel insurance
Applicable taxes Anything not listed under inclusions

ETA and entry notes for Indian travellers

Indian passport holders need a Sri Lanka ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) before flying. Apply online at the official portal, eta.gov.lk, a few days ahead; approval is usually quick. Carry a passport valid for at least six months, a return ticket and proof of funds. The tourist ETA fee is around US$50 at the time of writing, and ETA fees have changed more than once, so confirm the current amount on the official site before you pay. Your group coordinator can help the whole group apply together.

Why book your Sri Lanka group tour with TravelTriangle

TravelTriangle has helped 40 Lac+ travellers plan trips since 2011, and your Sri Lanka group tour is handled by verified local agents, not a call centre. You deal only with the top 10% of agents, each selected after a 23-step assessment. Payment is released to the agent only after you have received your booking vouchers, so your money is protected until the trip is confirmed. On the ground you get 24x7 assistance from local travel experts, and every itinerary stays fully customisable up to departure.

"For a group, the one thing I tell travellers is to lock the Yala safari for the first morning slot, not the afternoon, the light and the leopard sightings are far better," says our Sri Lanka desk coordinator.

Prices and inclusions on this page are checked by our Sri Lanka desk against live agent inventory before you book. Reviewed by our Sri Lanka travel desk.

Booking with agent Travco was smooth and they were accomodating in selecting hotels based on our choice. Cab/guide was very helpful and knowledgeable and he speaks English fluently so we didn't face any problem. Travel triangle support could be better prior to booking as dealing with multiple agent

Overall we are very satisified with the trip and we had a great time. Trip was well oraganized. Cab was clean, driver was on time mostly. Hibiscus beach resort near Bentota, Kamrel hotel at Sigiriya, Magampura eco village resort at Yala were the best properties. As far as improvements are concerne
d: Hotels at Kandy was below average on all parameters. Food at Nuwarya Ellia hotel was below average, howver, they accommodated indian food request Most importantly, we should have been allowed freely to choose government authorized operators for whale watch, Madu boat safari , polonurwarya city tour who offered tickets at half the price compared to Glamour asia recommended operators. No such restriction was mentioned in the itinerary Also, we had to book tuk tuk at Merrissa as cab was not available for whole day Several places mentioned in itinerary were not covered on one pretext or another eg Ambuluwawa. adam peak, Zip line etc. On the other hand, we were charged 10K LKR for polonurwa sight seeing in lieu of village tour and cultural programme in which we were not interested Lastly, we should have given flexibility to adjust time for sighseeing spots a little eg some spot is more appealing than the other Overall it was a good trip and well organized Thanks to Travel triangle and its partner So many of them eg Lion Rock, Nuwarya Elliia, merrissa whale watch, tea lounge, gem making, Hibiscus beach resort with priavte area, lotus tower at colombo .. so and so forth

I am happy with the arrangements done by the Trip Travel hub company in Sri Lanka, They have provided good hotels and good car to go around. Although they can do a better job with planning the itinerary as we faced dificulty to cover everything that was planned in Nuwara Eliya, Kandy and Ramboda. We
liked the accomodation provided in Sigirya, Ramboda, Mirissa, but the one in Yala was not that great. The company also should have enquired about our food preferences and planned for restaurants where we could eat proper meals. everyday it was a challenge to find vegetarian restaurent to eat lunch and snacks. The best part of the trip was the hotel Oak Ray Tea Bush, the amazing view from the hotel room was really worth it. Overall the trip was good and satisfactory.

FAQs About Sri Lanka Group Tour Packages

How many people are in a Sri Lanka group tour?

Our Sri Lanka group departures are kept small. Most fixed departures run with a maximum of around 18 travellers, and several of the shorter routes go out with 10 to 12. A smaller group means the whole party moves together through the Temple of the Tooth, onto the Ella train and into Yala safari jeeps, without splitting into shifts. If you want your group to have the trip to itself, you can book a private departure for just your party

How much does a Sri Lanka group tour cost from India?

A week-long group trip from India usually works out to between Rs 65,000 and Rs 95,000 per person all-in, including flights, the land package, the ETA and extras. The land-only price on this page starts at Rs 49,000 per person on twin sharing. The 9 Days with Airfare package bundles the return flight, so there is a single number to budget against. Group travel also splits the cost of the vehicle and guide across everyone

Are there fixed departure dates, and can I join as a solo traveller or couple?

Yes. You can join a fixed small-group departure on set dates, which is the easiest option for solo travellers and couples who want company and shared costs without organising the logistics. You can also book a private group departure for your own family or friends on your own dates. Tell our agents your group size and travel month and they will confirm the next available departure

Is a Sri Lanka group tour safe, including for solo female travellers?

Sri Lanka is one of the easier Asian destinations for group and solo travel, and a small group with a local driver-guide adds an extra layer of comfort. You are never navigating transport or unfamiliar areas alone. Standard precautions apply, as anywhere. Many of our solo and female travellers specifically choose the group format for exactly this reason

Do Indians need a visa or ETA for Sri Lanka?

Yes. Indian passport holders need a Sri Lanka ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) before flying. Apply online at the official portal, eta.gov.lk, a few days ahead; approval is usually quick. Carry a passport valid for at least six months and a return ticket. Confirm the current ETA fee on the official site before you pay, as it has changed more than once. Your group coordinator can help everyone apply together

What is included in a Sri Lanka group tour package?

Packages include accommodation on twin sharing, daily breakfast, a private air-conditioned vehicle with a driver-guide, airport transfers, and sightseeing as per the itinerary. International airfare is included only on the Airfare package. The ETA fee, lunches and dinners (unless specified), monument and park entry fees, tips and personal expenses are not included. See the inclusions table above for the full list

What is the best time for a group trip to Sri Lanka?

It depends on the coast. For the west, south and hill country, where most group routes go, travel December to March for dry, sunny weather. For the east coast around Trincomalee, late April to September is the dry window. December to March is the busiest period for groups, so book your fixed departure early to hold your dates and price

Which places and experiences are covered on a group tour?

A typical week covers Sigiriya rock fortress, the Dambulla cave temples, Pinnawala elephant orphanage, the Temple of the Tooth and a Kandyan dance show in Kandy, the hill-country train to Nuwara Eliya, the Nine Arch Bridge at Ella, a leopard safari in Yala, whale watching off Mirissa, Galle Fort, a Madu River boat safari and beach time at Bentota. Longer packages add more of the coast and wildlife

How do we reach Sri Lanka, and are flights included?

Almost every group flies into Bandaranaike International Airport near Colombo, with direct flights from Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi; cities such as Kolkata connect through these hubs. The Chennai to Colombo flight is about 1.5 hours. Flights are included on the 9 Days with Airfare package and can be added to the others. A limited, intermittent passenger ferry runs between Nagapattinam and Kankesanthurai near Jaffna, but it lands far from the tour circuit, so flying into Colombo is the practical choice

Can the group itinerary be customised, or can we book a private departure?

Yes to both. Every itinerary on this page is fully customisable: change the number of nights, swap a beach day for a safari, add Trincomalee or Jaffna, or upgrade the hotels. You can also book any route as a private group departure for just your own party, on dates you choose, rather than joining a fixed group

How many days are enough for a Sri Lanka group tour?

Six to seven days is the sweet spot and covers the cultural triangle, the hill country and the south coast comfortably. Five days works if you focus on the hills and one coast. Nine to eleven days lets the group slow down and add more wildlife and beach time, or reach the north and east. The packages above range from 5 days to 11 days

Can we extend our Sri Lanka tour package?

Yes, you can extend your tour package.

What should we carry for a Sri Lanka group tour?

Pack light cottons for the coast, one warm layer for the chilly highland evenings in Nuwara Eliya and Ella, modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees for temples, and comfortable walking shoes for Sigiriya. Bring swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, any personal medicines and enough cash within the permissible limit. For a group, shared board or card games make the longer drives fly

What is the best way to travel to Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka is an island located in the Indian ocean. The best way to travel Sri Lanka is by cruise or flight.

Is there any suggestion while traveling to Sri Lanka?

Traveling with a group is great fun and so is venturing out alone. To enjoy the planned activities to the best, it would be great if everyone sticks to the group and enjoy the exotic experiences in Sri Lanka to the maximum.
