Best Religious Places in Dehradun

Amongst all the Dehradun religious places, Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple is the most famous one. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is inside a cave which is believed to be once resided by Kauravas and Pandavas. The cave is called Drona cave and the water from the cave naturally drips over the shivling. Apart from the Hindu temples, there are various churches in Dehradun. St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church is the most famous church in Dehradun which is visited by many tourists.

1. Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple: The Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple is one of the major religious places in Dehradun and it is located at a distance of about 5.5 km from the main city. The temple is built inside the Drona cave and the main deity here is Shiva. There is a constant flow of water from the cave over the Shivling. Great festivities are held at this temple during the time of Shivratri every year.

2. Laxman Sidh Temple: Known as the cremation site of Swami Laxman Siddh who was a Saint, this temple is located on the Dehradun-Haridwar bypass. Every year Laxman Siddh Fair is held at this temple when people visit it in large number. According to beliefs, this is the same place where Laxman underwent repentance after killing Ravana.

3. Buddha Temple: This is one of the best temples in Dehradun which is visited by a large number of tourists and Buddhism followers. Built in the year 1965 at Clement Town, the temple features illustrative wall paintings depicting the life of Buddha. It is a great place to learn about Buddhist religion and ethics.

4. Santala Devi Mandir: Another famous temple in Dehradun is located at the Nimbuwala-Garhi Cantt area. The temple has great importance and it is said that Santala Devi along with his brother threw away all their weapons and started to pray when they realized that they won't be able to defeat the Mughals. Suddenly, a divine light fell on them and they turned into stone statues.

5. Daat Kali Mandir: This is another most visited temple located on the way to Dehradun-Saharanpur Highway. People from all over the world come here to pay their homage to Daat Kali Goddess.
