Information about Auckland

Auckland, based around two large harbours in the narrow neck of the North Island of New Zealand, is hands down the liveliest city of the country. Both its urban fabric and natural beauty are something worth cherishing forever. Take a ferry here and there, and you can reach some of the best beaches and volcanic islands of the Pacific as well. Moreover, there are a bunch of adventure activities waiting for you to be indulged in – skydiving, bungee jumping, water rafting, canoeing, canyoning, bridge climbing and so on. Since the options are so many, it would be wise to consult an Auckland travel guide before deciding on the itinerary. While on the trip, do keep an Auckland map handy in case you need to find your way to different destinations on your own.

Weather in Auckland: Auckland has an oceanic temperate climate, vey similar to most Australasian cities. Located just by the sea, the city has a heightened level of humidity. During the summer months from late November to February, temperature in Auckland can be quite hot, but not uncomfortably. In fact, it is quite perfect for outdoor activities. The winters however, can be quite cold and damp, and thus not very ideal for sightseeing or beach activities.

Nightlife in Auckland: Night time in New Zealand, Auckland is just as lively as the day. Ponsonby, Britomart and K’road have multiple bars, pubs and nightclubs to dance the night away with good music and flowing drinks. Other than that, one can dine in the spectacular 360- degree revolving diner atop the Sky Tower, or explore the night sky from Auckland’s Stardome Observatory and Planetarium, or take an overnight cruise around the Waitemata Harbour and Islands, or visit the many night markets of Auckland. Give Spookers – Australasia’s only haunted attraction park a try.

Shopping in Auckland: From high-end malls to local shops to thrift markets, the options for a retail therapy are aplenty. Britomart is a posh shopping neighbourhood in the CBD area, with a number of international and local brands. High Street and Kitchener Street are quite exclusive for clothes and jewelleries. While Britomart caters to sophisticated taste, Ponsonby and Aotea Markets are home to vintage shops and quirky boutiques. Otara Flea Market, Parnell Farmer’s Market and Takapuna Beach Night Market are for budget shopping.

Food in Auckland: Auckland has some magnificent food places around the city that one must try out. For a quirky breakfast delicacy instead of lunch and dinner, visit No 1 Pancake for an unbelievably unique range, at cheap rates.

Festivals in Auckland: Pasifika Festival, held around October every year, is probably the biggest cultural festival of entire New Zealand. The Christmas and holiday season is also celebrated with quite a lot of pomp and fervour.

I, Jayant Limaye, aged 63, along with my wife Jyotsna, embarked on a journey to Australia and New Zealand spanning from December 18th to January 29th. We opted for a self-driven tour organized by Wonder Bird Holidays, masterfully curated by their representative, Mr. Raunak. Mr. Raunak ensured meticulous planning, covering every detail, from plane tickets to hotel bookings and internal tour visits. The arrangement was so impeccable that we never had any idle moments, as each destination was thoughtfully designed step by step to eliminate any potential challenges. Right from the outset, Mr. Raunak comprehensively explained every aspect of the tour, including plane timings, vehicle pick-up and drop-off schedules, weather conditions at each location, clothing recommendations, coordination with local tours, their timings, approach locations, and parking conditions. The offered 3-to-4-star hotels were of excellent quality, strategically located in city centers for convenient travel. Mr. Raunak conducted a thorough review of the entire tour, addressing all our queries well before its commencement. He remained consistently available via phone to provide guidance. An instance highlighting his proactive approach occurred during our journey from Wanaka to Mount Cook in New Zealand. Faced with an indefinite road closure, Mr. Raunak promptly informed us and suggested an alternative route, allowing us to reach Mount Cook at 5 PM instead of 1 PM, unlike other travelers who waited in Omarama and arrived at 8:30 PM. We commend Mr. Raunak for his swift and decisive actions on that day. His regular check-ins, inquiries about our location and well-being, and unwavering cooperation compelled us to give him a perfect score of 100 out of 100. Thanks to the exceptional service of the Wonder Bird Holidays team, particularly Mr. Raunak, our tour was not only enjoyable but also hassle-free. For anyone contemplating a trip to Australia and New Zealand, we wholeheartedly recommend Wonder Bird Holidays.
