Visit between December and February, like any other hill station in Himachal, to experience snowfall in Dalhousie.
Being a sleepy little village like town in the hills makes Dalhousie the perfect place for a honeymooning couple. The town retains some sort of colonial aura and that renders it a very quaint and surreal experience when you combine it with the natural beauty all around.
Since Dalhousie is a small town, walking is a viable option. That is only for enthusiasts though, the common practice is to get motorcycles or cars. Due to the temperature though, a car is a better idea than a bike.
In terms of attractions, Dalhousie doesn't offer much. The nearby sites of Khajjiar and Chamba are must visits when staying in Dalhousie and so are the markets and the malls that the town was built around back in the day. Obviously, going to Dainkund is also a priority and there a few beautiful churches around the town as well.
There are rooms available in Dalhousie from upwards of Rs.1000- Rs.8000. A fairly luxurious room on an average would cost roughly Rs.4000 a night and an average to decent meal costs in the range of Rs. 250- Rs.350. Therefore, an average but luxurious day in Dalhousie would cost around Rs.2500- Rs.3000.
Regardless of whom you go on the trip with, spending roughly 3-4 days in Dalhousie is quite long enough. While it is a quaint little town and it is very beauiful, there are not many things to do. So 3-4 idyllic days spent in this small town with the beautiful scenery should be good enough that include visits to Khajjiar and Chamba.
Dalhousie does not have many hospitals, the main hospitals in the town are the Civil Hospital and the Military Hospital in the Cantonment area. Civil Hospital is on Subhash Chowk Road. The number for Civil Hospital is +91-1899-242125 and the ambulance number is 108.
There are a few ATMs that are available in Dalhousie, however they are either in Chamba district or in and around the Mall area. It is always a good idea to carry cash when travelling as there not many ATMs all over the place.
The best time to visit Dalhousie has to be the summer months of March to May. The summer months are refreshingly cool here and it is a welcome escape from the heat. However, this is also peak season for tourism and it is quite crowded at this time. Winter, of course, is excellent for those who enjoy snowfall.
