Jaisalmer is a city that is steeped in history and an ideal destination for travellers interested in history and wanting to learn. Considering it’s location in terms of ancient trade routes, it was a fairly important city for the longest time. The rulers of Jaisalmer were the Bhati Rajputs. Rawal Jaisal was denied his father’s throne at their old capital of Lodhruva and that is when he came across the nearby Trikuta Hill where he raised a fort. The capital of the kingdom then shifted to the new fort and the Rawal named it after himself, calling it Jaisalmer. Most of the construction on the fort took place over time to accommodate needs ranging from security to housing.
Built in this manner in 1156 AD, Jaisalmer fort is where the city began and also the oldest of all the historical places in Jaisalmer. As a still functional fort, Jaisalmer fort is a witness to bygone eras, carrying their legacy into the new age and the go to place to breathe long histories.
