About National Gallery in Singapore
Located in Downtown Core of the city, National Gallery of Singapore is the world’s largest public collection of Singaporean and Southeast Asian Art. Ever since its opening in November 2015, the gallery has been home to over 8,000 works of art from different corners of the world, but more specifically, of Asia. It is by far, the largest museum and visual art venue of the Lion City as well.
National Gallery Singapore history is rooted in the country’s constant thriving towards becoming a global city for arts and culture, and their efforts to uphold the Singaporean and Asian heritage. In 2005, the Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, announced the conversion of the former Supreme Court building and City Hall into the current National Art Gallery, Singapore. These two national monuments form the main attraction of the gallery. Other than that, contemporary Singaporean and South Asian art from the 19th century to the current era are displayed over two permanent galleries – DBS Singapore and UOB Southeast Asia. Among the artists, there are eminent names like Georgette Chen, Chen Wen Hsi, Cheong Soo Pieng and Liu Kang from Singapore and Affandi (Indonesia), Fernando Cueto Amorsolo (Philippines), Latiff Mohidin (Malaysia), Le Pho (Vietnam) and Montien Boonma (Thailand) in the Southeast Asia gallery.
There are also National Gallery Singapore exhibitions, programmes for students, workshops for artists and art practitioners and many other such events. The gallery also has the Keppel Center for Art Education, which are art classes and discussions held in an artistic environment, stimulating the creativity in young and potential future artists.

Is National Gallery of Singapore disability-friendly?
There are guided audio tours, wheelchair accessibility and strollers in the museum. However, strollers are difficult to manoeuvre inside the galleries and have to be parked outside.
Can an artist get permission to work inside the museum?
With permission, only pencil sketching is permitted in the galleries. No charcoal, oil colour, pastels, permanent markers or watercolours are allowed. Sketching stools are available on loan for free at the museum.
