Nearly 30 different kinds of butterflies are found in the Park. It might as well be an informative tour if you wish to know more about the flora and fauna of the park. There are also tours organized by the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) to educate the tourists about the same. Sanjay Gandhi National Park cycling tours also provide you with ample opportunities to spot these exotic florae and fauna. 

Lake Tour

Vihar lake and Tulsi lake, two of the largest lakes of Mumbai, are located inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The Vihar lake was constructed in the year 1860 after Mumbai suffered from an acute water crisis. While Tulsi lake was built in the year 1897 as a backup to the Vihar Lake. Both the lakes form a significant part of South Mumbai’s water requirements and serve as a good purpose for its tourism as well. 

Toy Train Tour

The Sanjay Gandhi National Park has a toy train of its own, for real! The train which is known by the name of Van Rani runs on a narrow track of railway. During 2001, Van Rani discontinued as a result of poor conditions. However, services were restored in the year 2004. The train has a seating capacity of 25 and takes the route through several bridges and tunnels. 

Visitor Information

Sanjay Gandhi National Park has several entrances but the main entrance is one the Western Express Highway which is 40 km away from the Mumbai City Center. 

Borivali East railway station is the closest local railway station to reach Sanjay Gandhi National Park. 

The park is constructed in a huge area of 104 km and is one of the major national parks present inside the premise of a metropolis.

Apart from the jungle safaris, toy train rides boating, rock climbing, trekking, Buddhist caves, butterfly garden, and nature trails are also present here.

Every day from 5.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m., the park remains open for walkers. But all the facilities are closed on Mondays. 

The entrance fee of Sanjay Gandhi National Park is INR 53 for people above the age of 12 years. INR 28 is charged for the entry of children between the age of 5-12 years. 

Private vehicles are allowed inside the park at certain charges. The cost for a motorcycle is INR 45, for a four-wheeler is INR 177 and for a bus is INR 266.
