By Air:

The Shimla Airport, also called the Jubbarhatti Airport, is one of the few airports at any hill station and is located about 25 km from the main city. The landing experience in the plane is a little rough because this airstrip is probably one of the smallest. However, since this airport isn’t open all year round using Chandigarh or Delhi as a connecting airport is advised. Travelers arriving in Chandigarh by plane typically opt to reserve taxis for their 3- to 4-hour journey to Shimla. Regular buses are also available. Getting to Shimla from Delhi’s airport takes about seven or eight hours.

By Road:

Buses to Shimla depart from Delhi, Jaipur, Punjab, Haryana, and portions of Uttar Pradesh. Shimla is a popular tourist destination. From Chandigarh, Delhi, and other nearby locations, taxis are readily available. Additionally, Shimla has excellent HRTC bus connections from practically everywhere in Himachal Pradesh. Kalka to Shimla is a journey of about 80 km, Chandigarh to Shimla is 118 km, and Delhi to Shimla is 370 km.

Train:

At a distance of just 90 km the Kalka Railway Station is the closest broad gauge railway station to Shimla. The train ride from Kalka to this location takes about 5–6 hours but the scenery and numerous tunnels along the way more than make up for the longer travel time. From Kalka to Shimla, there are roughly three to four trains each day. Another option for transportation is a rail car which is unique in India. The distance between Chandigarh Railway Station and Shimla is only 113 km. Shimla has excellent local bus and taxi connections from both railway stations. Although Shimla has its train station, it is only used by narrow gauge trains from Kalka.
