Koilkonda Fort, located in the Mahbubnagar district of Telangana, is a mediaeval period hill fort. The fort is situated atop the hill, providing a clear view of the surrounding environment. This dam was built in the year 1965 and has a gross water storage capacity of 4.5 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic Feet) is used for both irrigation and Hydropower demand in the concerned area. The proposed Koilsagar Dam Project offers irrigation to more than one lakh twenty thousand acres of land and 125 villages in Mahbubnagar district for crops like cotton, maize, chillies, and peanuts. There lies also a mini hydel power station that produces electricity with the help of the water flow of the Krishna river.
Also, due to the location of Koilsagar Dam within the Nallamala forest range, the site attracts a lot of tourists, who enjoy a boat ride in the reservoir. On a whole, the Koilsagar Dam has a great significance for agriculture, power and tourism in the Telangana region and to avoid floods in the downstream areas during heavy floods. 2. Manyamkonda

Apart from Koilkonda, Fort Manyamkonda is a place situated in Mahbubnagar district in the state of Telangana, and it is historically important. Manyamkonda is a combination of the Telugu words manu, meaning mud, and Konda, meaning hill. Therefore, it was understood as ‘the hill of mud’. This site has produced numerous artefacts and invasions that would show that this place was once hub of the Buddhist culture in the 3rd century BCE. This was another place that was considered to be a religious hub for Buddhism with monasteries and shrines.
During excavations conducted in the area, there are structures including stupas, Viharas, sculptures and other decorative panels that have been found. The emergence of Manyamkonda remains indicative of the early historic period active in religious practices and trade before the dominance of Brahmanical Hinduism and the degeneration of Buddhists in the region. The city holds immense historical and archaeological value in the area of Telangana.

This is a vantage point erected on a small hill and provides an excellent view of the Rangapur Lake and its vast forest cover. The lake is a body of water which is part of the Tungabhadra River being supplied to the lake through a channel. From the hillock, visitors are guided through a pathway to an elevated position where a 180-degree view of the blue sparkling lake, enclosed by hills on all sides, can be observed.
There is also a small park with benches for the visitors to rest and there are also facilities where boats can be taken on the lake below. This viewpoint provides beautiful scenery of the waters in the lake and the boats, which sail in the waters, and this makes this area one of the most visited by the people in the area.

4. Srirangapur Temple

The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, also known as Srirangapur Temple, is situated in Srirangapur village in Mahbubnagar district of the Telangana state in Telangana near Koilkonda fort. This temple was constructed in the 14th century by the Vijayanagara emperor Kumara Kampana and is regarded as a Ranganatha Temple. The main entrance has a splendid seven-storied pyramid called Gopuram, and in the main shrine, there is the idol of Lord Ranganatha lying on a coil known as Adishesha.
A lot of carving works of art, images of the gods, dancers and musicians are etched on the pillars and walls of the temple. It also has a holy tank and people from Mahbubnagar and other neighbouring districts come to perform their rituals. Some of the popular annual festivals observed in this temple include the Brahmotsavam and Vaikunta Ekadashi, which are two major fairs held in this temple, and it is one of the important Vaishnavite pilgrimage centres.

5. Nallamala Forest

Few kilometres from Koilkonda fort is the Nallamala Forest is a reserved forest situated in the Eastern Ghats spread over parts of the Telangana state of Telangana. And spread over an area of around 4500 sq km it is the largest tiger reserve in Telangana. The tigers are found in the forest along with other animals such as the panthers, sloth bears, wild dogs, jungle cats, spotted deers, sambar deer, nilgai, chinkara, chowsingha, black buck, etcetera. Some of the perennial rivers like the Krishna and the Tungabhadra originate from the Nallamala hills.
The forest is also filled with plenty of natural resources of flora including sandalwood trees, bamboo, teak, rosewood and medicinal plants. Current plans include implementing a national park status on the Nallamala Forest in view of the ecological importance of the forest as a wildlife sanctuary and watershed in the region. The Chenchu tribal people have been dwellers in this forest for many generations.
