Who This Honeymoon Suits

Book this trip if you want both halves of Bali without packing a bag every second morning. You check in once in Kuta, ten minutes from the airport, and move once to the hills for the last two nights, where the villa pool is yours alone. The tour days are long and full, so the free days that follow them matter. It is the wrong base if you want Seminyak beach clubs every night, since those are an hour from both hotels. Couples who would rather spend more time on islands than in the car can look at the Bali and Gili Islands honeymoon instead. 6 Nights 7 Days Bali Honeymoon Itinerary

Day 1: Land in Bali and a Candlelight Dinner on the Beach

You arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, where your driver waits outside arrivals with a name board. The drive to Mercure Bali Harvestland Kuta in Tuban takes about ten minutes, so you are in your room soon after clearing immigration and paying the tourist levy. Rest for the afternoon or walk down to the sand. In the evening the car takes you to the beach for your candlelight dinner, timed so you are seated as the sun goes down over the water. If your flight lands late, tell your agent and the dinner moves to the next evening rather than being lost.

Day 2: Barong Dance, Celuk and Mas, Goa Gajah and Kintamani

After breakfast you drive about 40 minutes to Batubulan, a village known for its stone carvers, for the morning Barong dance. It is an hour of masks, gamelan music and the old story of the lion-like Barong fighting the witch Rangda. Next door is Celuk, where families have worked silver and gold for generations, and a little further on is Mas, the woodcarving village. Goa Gajah, the Elephant Cave, comes next. Its carved entrance dates to around the 11th century, and the site sat on UNESCO's Tentative List from 1995 until Indonesia withdrew it in 2015. You will need a sarong here, which is lent at the gate. The road then climbs to Kintamani, about 1,500 metres up, for lunch facing Mount Batur, an active volcano, and the lake below it. Lunch is not in the package, so budget for it. Carry a light jacket. You stop in Ubud on the way back and reach Kuta by early evening. Entry tickets, including the Barong show, are paid at each gate.

Day 3: Lovina Dolphins at Sunrise and the North Bali Temples

This is the longest day of the trip, about 16 hours, so sleep early the night before. Your driver collects you at around 3:30 am for the three-hour drive to Lovina on the north coast. Traditional outrigger boats head out just before sunrise, and the dolphins usually surface close to the boats in the first hour. Your boat ticket is included. On the way back you stop at Gitgit waterfall, a short walk through forest, then the viewpoint over the twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan. Ulun Danu Beratan, the temple that appears to float on Lake Beratan, comes next, followed by the royal temple of Taman Ayun with its wide moat. You finish at Tanah Lot for sunset. The temple stands on a rock just offshore and visitors cannot enter it, so watch from the cliffs opposite. Temple entry fees are paid on the spot, and shoulders and knees should be covered. You reach Kuta at around 8 pm.

Day 4: Couple Spa and a Free Day in Kuta

After a late breakfast, your two-hour Balinese spa is booked for you both. The rest of the day is yours. Kuta Beach is a short ride north for a swim or a surf lesson, and the hotel pool is quieter in the afternoon. Two paid options fit this day well. The first is Uluwatu Temple, 70 metres up a sea cliff, for sunset and the Kecak fire dance in the amphitheatre beside it, about 45 minutes to an hour from Kuta. Leave by 4 pm, as the road onto the Bukit jams before sunset. The second option swaps the free day for Nusa Penida. A fast boat from Sanur crosses in about 45 minutes to Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong and a snorkelling stop at Crystal Bay. If you pick Penida, the spa moves to the evening. Your agent adds either option to the quote.

Day 5: Tanjung Benoa Watersports, Then Your Ubud Pool Villa

Check out after breakfast and drive about 30 minutes to Tanjung Benoa, the calm lagoon side of the Nusa Dua peninsula, where most of Bali's watersports operators are based. Mornings have the flattest water. Three rides are included: a jet ski, a parasailing flight over the bay and a banana boat. Snorkelling or a glass-bottom boat to Turtle Island can be added at the counter. After a stop for souvenirs, the car heads inland for about an hour and a half to Vrindavan Villa in Kenderan, Tegallalang. You check in by mid-afternoon with time for a first swim in your own pool before dark. Ask the villa about dinner in, as the nearest restaurants are a short drive away.

Day 6: A Pool Villa Day in Tegallalang

There is no fixed plan today, and the villa is the reason to stay put for the morning. If you want to go out, you are in the right place for it. The Tegallalang rice terraces are 10 to 15 minutes away. Go before 8 am to have the paths to yourselves, and the jungle swings on the ridge cost extra. Coffee plantations along the same road offer a free tasting tray and sell cups of luwak coffee. Tirta Empul, the spring temple where Balinese bathe under carved spouts to purify themselves, is about 20 minutes away in Tampaksiring. Tegenungan waterfall is about 45 minutes south. A car is not included today, so ask your agent to book one for a few hours or use the Grab or Gojek apps. Day 7: Check Out and Fly Home

Have a slow breakfast by the pool and check out by noon. The drive from Tegallalang to Ngurah Rai Airport takes about 1.5 hours, and up to 2 hours in afternoon traffic around Denpasar. Leave the villa about four hours before your flight, which means flights after 2 pm suit this itinerary best. Your agent will confirm the pickup time the evening before.
