How To Reach Andaman From Madurai

There is no direct flight from Madurai (IXM) to Port Blair, so every Madurai itinerary connects through a larger airport, most commonly Chennai. This package is planned around that routing so you do not have to piece the journey together yourself.

By air (recommended)

Fly Madurai → Chennai (about 1 hour), then connect Chennai (MAA) → Port Blair’s Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ), a flight of about 2 hours 15 minutes. Counting the layover, door-to-island time runs 5–7 hours. Port Blair flights land in daylight only, since the airport does not operate night landings, so book an early Madurai departure. For Tamil Nadu travellers, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata are the practical gateway cities.

By sea (budget / experience route)

Government passenger ships sail to Port Blair from Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Kolkata, taking around 3 days each way. It is far cheaper than flying but eats into a short island holiday, most Madurai travellers fly both ways and keep the ship as a one-time experience.

Day-By-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Port Blair, Corbyn’s Cove & Cellular Jail

After your connecting flight via Chennai lands at Veer Savarkar International Airport, our representative meets you and drives you to your Port Blair hotel for check-in. Once you have freshened up, the day begins at Corbyn’s Cove Beach, the closest beach to the city, good for a relaxed walk and a first look at the Andaman coastline. In the late afternoon you head to the Cellular Jail (Kala Pani), the colonial-era prison central to India’s freedom struggle, and stay on for the evening light-and-sound show that narrates its history. A short stroll around Aberdeen Bazaar is an easy add-on before returning to the hotel for the night.

Day 2: Ferry to Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) & Elephant Beach

After breakfast and check-out, you transfer to the jetty for a catamaran ferry across to Havelock Island, now officially Swaraj Dweep, a crossing of about 1.5–2 hours. After checking in to your Havelock hotel, the afternoon is for Elephant Beach, reached by a short boat ride, where the calm, shallow reef is ideal for snorkelling, the sea-walk and other water activities (paid on the spot). Many travellers also visit Radhanagar Beach (Beach No. 7) for the sunset, regularly ranked among Asia’s finest beaches. Overnight in Havelock.

Day 3: Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep): Bharatpur, Laxmanpur & Natural Bridge

Check out after breakfast and take the ferry to Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep), the quieter, slower-paced island of the trio. After check-in, explore Bharatpur Beach for its clear shallow water and glass-bottom boat rides, Laxmanpur Beach for a celebrated sunset, and the Natural Bridge, locally called the Howrah Bridge, a coral rock arch best seen at low tide. The rest of the day is at leisure to cycle the village lanes or simply relax by the sea. Overnight on Neil Island.

Day 4: Neil Island leisure & return to Port Blair

Meals: breakfast · Stay: Port Blair · Sightseeing + ferry included

Spend an unhurried morning on Neil Island: a swim, a slow breakfast, or any beach you missed the day before. After check-out you take the ferry back to Port Blair and check in to your hotel. If time allows, you can add an optional evening visit to Chidiya Tapu for its sunset point, or keep the evening free for last-minute shopping at Aberdeen Bazaar and Sagarika Government Emporium. Overnight in Port Blair.

Day 5: Departure

Vegetarian and South Indian food is easy to find across Port Blair, Havelock and Neil Island. Most hotels serve idli, dosa, sambar and rice meals at breakfast, and pure-vegetarian restaurants are available in Port Blair (Aberdeen Bazaar) and on Havelock. Seafood is the local speciality, but a Tamil-vegetarian family will eat comfortably throughout the trip.
