India has a lot to show to the world when it comes to the urban development that has taken place here over the years. It is something to be proud of the fact that great cities such as Mumbai and Chennai have popped up all over the country and continue to build from strength to strength. However, the real story of India and the rich and diverse culture held within its land is in the smaller towns, the tiny villages that one could barely spot on a map, but still, are home to some of the most important sites in the country, monuments that hold great religious significance among the people. You may experience the sights of one such small town hidden away near the western coastline of India with our Chennai to Gokarna tour packages. Places like Gokarna are precisely why exploring some of India’s rural settlements is such a rewarding and satisfying experience.

You get the stunning beaches, covered with golden sands that make for a great spot to lounge around on as you gaze out over the expansive blue carpet that is the Arabian Sea right in front of, but on top of that, some of India’s most sacred pilgrimage sites also happen to be standing near this shore. The village is located in Karnataka and is fairly close to its border with Goa, giving you plenty of convenient routes to make your approach. Even those who aren’t devout followers of the Hindu faith will be charmed by the beautiful architecture of its temples and the historical significance of these sites to the local culture and lifestyle. The Chennai to Gokarna tour packages that TravelTriangle have on offer provides you with a robust itinerary that gives you a great sense of the location.

    Shiva Cave

One of the many sites in Gokarna dedicated to the Hindu God of Destruction, Lord Shiva, the Shiva Cave displays all the traits that make Gokarna special. It is a sacred site for the local people as well as devotees who have travelled from far and wide. They refer to this cave as “gogarbha” which translates to “cow’s womb”. The mouth of this cave is located on a hillside which looks out onto the gorgeous beaches that are found in this land. Once inside, travellers will notice that it is pitch black, requiring a torch to navigate without any inconvenience. Many bats have made their nest in these caves as a result. The most intriguing part of the cave, however, is a little room behind a wooden door that holds a Shivalinga illuminated by the light pouring in from a hole in the cave’s ceiling. People may sit down in this room and meditate if they wish.

Our Chennai to Gokarna tour packages are there for you to peruse through if you’re interested in taking a walk through the saintly streets of this beautiful village.

You won’t actually be setting foot in Gokarna immediately at the start of this tour, as we arrive in Goa first. From there, it is a long drive that will take you to Gokarna, the destination that you are so eager to start exploring. And explore it you shall. Once we touch down in Gokarna, check into a hotel and drop off the bags that we’ve been carrying with us, we’re off and running on a tour around the town and its many attractions.

No tour to Gokarna can truly commence without visiting what is easily its most prestigious landmark. There is so much culture, so much importance and so much legend wrapped up in the walls of the Mahabaleshwar Temple, as well as Kotitirtha beside it.

After you’ve visited the monument that spawned this legend, take a rejuvenating walk along the beach that it faces. This beach is the Gokarna Main Beach. The first one of the beaches is Kudle Beach. As impressive as any beach anywhere in the world, Kudle Beach also gives you access to the Shiva Cave. While the cave itself is inhabited by bats due to how dark it is, requiring the use of a flashlight to navigate, what makes it stand out from the crowd is a little section of it that is separated from the rest of the cave by a wooden door. Behind this door is a room-like space, within which lies a Shivalinga. Light pours into this room through a hole in the ceiling, making it an ideal spot for meditation.

Continuing southwards from Kudle Beach you will finally reach Om Beach, which gives you access to a wonderful elevated spot from which you can see the beautiful rocks formed by the sea below. In addition to that, there are many activities you could try out at Om Beach, such as fishing, riding in a banana boat, experiencing the thrill of skimming along the sea on a speed boat or jet ski, even spotting some dolphins. As you travel further along the periphery of this terrain, you will arrive at Half Moon Beach, following a short trek through the hills. Continue along the border towards the Gokarna Lighthouse. Later, return to our hotel in Gokarna and stay there overnight.

    Other Benefits (On Arrival)

he previous day’s escapades are sure to have taken a lot of energy to get through, so the start of your second day here takes place with breakfast, a heavy one. It will help you not only in your recovery from the previous day’s adventures but also for the brief excursion that lies ahead of you on this day. The town of Murudeshwar lies to the south of Gokarna, a long but reasonable drive away. The significance of this temple is the way it ties into the story of the Mahabaleshwar Temple's establishment.

The Shiva Statue that been built here is the second tallest of the God of destruction in India. The tower of the Murudeshwar Temple itself is, in fact, the tallest of its kind in the country. This entire monument has been established on top of the Kanduka Hill, a picturesque formation of land that is enveloped by the Arabian Sea from three directions, with park built around it. At the foot of this hill, lining the vast sea, is the Murudeshwar Beach, a lovely stretch of sand that further enhances the beauty of this town.

On that wonderful note, the tour ends as we prepare for departure, with a well-rounded understanding of the culture of these coastal towns.
