First day of Shillong tour in July

Once you arrive at the Guwahati airport or railway station, you will be picked up for a drive to Shillong, which would be about 3 hours long. Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya and home to the tribal Khasi people. The Britishers called Shillong as the Scotland of the East because of its beautiful hills, climate and wonderful natural scenes. On the way, you get to visit Umiam Lake, which is located at Barapani and a major tourist attraction. Visit the Don Bosco monument and Ward’s lake where you can enjoy boating. Witness the beauty of Dawki and Mawlynnong

After breakfast, you will be taken to visit the Shillong peak and Elephant Falls. You next get to witness river Umngot in Dawki. The water is crystal clear here such that you can see the ground underneath the river. This makes it quite a popular feature on social media. You can take a leap here and relax. A boat safari is also available. You are next driven to Mawlynnong. This village is located in the East Khasi hills. This village is on the India-Bangladesh border. It also featured in the Discover India magazine in 2003. Mawlynnong is also known as ‘God’s own garden’. At this end of this day’s tour, you halt at Shillong.

Witness the Khasi way of living while moving around in the village

You are taken for a short early morning trek of the village. This gives you an opportunity to meet the locals and view their Khasi style of living. You are then taken to visit the Balancing Rock, Sky Walk, Bangladesh Viewpoint and the longest Living Root bridge. This is followed by a drive to Cherrapunji. This place receives the heaviest rainfall. On the way, you can experience the beautiful waterfalls. You will get to witness the Nohkalikai or Seven Sisters Falls. This is a segmented waterfall extending from the height of over 1000 feet. You get to visit the famous Mawsmai and Arwah caves here. Then, there is a night halt in Cherrapunji.

End the tour with a visit to the famous Kamakhya Devi Temple in Guwahati

After an early breakfast, you are taken to Guwahati. Here you get to visit one of the famous Shakti Peethas – Maa Kamakhya Devi Temple. It is located on top of Nilachal hills. Get transferred to Guwahati Airport for your journey back home.
