      FAQs for Taiwan

To apply for a Taiwanese visa, simply follow the steps below:

      A. Go to visawebapp.boca.goc.tw and fill in the application form.

      B. Print out the form and ensure that you provide a 2x2 colour recent photo of yourself with a white background as well as the original password which has validity for at least six months and one blank page, proof of sustainable financial resources (which can be bank savings or certificates), the schedule of your tour with every detail and the round-trip e-ticket or the certification from your travel agency.

      C. If you have relatives in Taiwan or if you are visiting your family, simply submit a copy of the household register, details of your relatives, birth certificate, foreign residence, and other relevant ID documents.

      D. An invitation letter.

      E. Other documents depending on the case. It usually takes three to five days to process your visa application.

Yes, Taiwan is safe for tourists and people from abroad. Despite concern about pickpocketing in crowded areas, the crime rate in Taiwan is relatively much lower than in other Asian countries.

As Taiwan is a non-English speaking country, communication can be hard if you do not know the local tongue. Luckily, technology has come a long way, and translation apps like Google Translate can be a great help to talk to the local Taiwanese people.

Here are a few things you should never do in the company of other people while in Taiwan. You must never show the bottom of your feet to anyone, as it is a symbol of disrespect. Always give things with both hands and never with only one to show respect. Eye contact is important to show the other person you like and respect them.

It is always recommended to pre-book everything so that you do not need to carry around large amounts of cash. Make sure you only bring cash for day to day expenses like for food and souvenirs. About NTD 200 should be enough for a day, except if you plan on eating at fancy restaurants and going shopping for many items!
