About Honnemardu

Honnemardu is a picturesque tourist spot located at Shimoga District of Karnataka and situated on back waters of river Sharavathi.
Hannemardu is a small and quaint village tucked away on the hills that overlook the Linganamakki reservoir perhaps also known as Honnemardu reservoir.
Honnemardu is an exciting spot for adventure seekers and provides opportunity for kayaking, boating and trekking. It is also a paradise for nature lovers owing to lofty hills, gurgling streams and steep valleys. The place is supposed to have got its name from the honne tree.
The nearest railhead is Talguppa which is 12km from the heart of the city Hannemardu. Bangalore Airport is the nearest International Airport which is 380 km from Honnemardu. KSRTC buses connect Honnemardu to various cities in the country.
-Jog Falls are highly spectacular being nestled in the Western Ghats amidst wild surroundings. The Sharavati river crash down to nearly nine hundred feet forming four main springs named king, queen, roarer and rocket. During the summer heat one can take a bath in the pool which is created below the falls.

-Adventure sports such as rafting and kayaking can be carefully executed under close supervision of an instructor.
-One can go across the hilly terrain through trekking and witness animal species and even reptiles during the course of one's journey.
-The forests of Honnemardu provide for many medicinal herbs and plants and are home to wide diversity of birds, small animals, reptiles and butterflies.
The populated forests around Honnemardu and Jog Falls are a birdwatcher’s paradise. As one walks down the valley, one can find many uncommon species here.
Some of the precious birds included are the European bee-eater, orange-headed ground thrush, fairy blue bird, spectacular ruby-cheeked bulbul and rare scarlet minuets.
This place is popular for wide array of varieties of butterflies, beautiful red helens, blue bottles, blue mormons, striped tigers, and so many, truly a feast for any butterfly lover.
-Gademane, a remote village in Malnad region, is well known for its Chitara art and is very close to Honnemardu. Members of the Deeva community dwell here.
